The Truth About ARFID w/ Lauren Sharifi @arfid.dietitian

What is ARFID and how is it different from other eating disorders? In today's episode of the Liv Label Free Podcast, Livia chats with Lauren Sharifi, a registered dietitian-nutritionist based in Massachusetts. Lauren owns a virtual private practice where she specializes in ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and works one-on-one with parents, teens, and adults. She also runs a monthly support group for adults with ARFID. In this episode, Lauren answers the following questions: What is ARFID? What’s the difference between ARFID and Anorexia?  What are common causes/triggers for developing ARFID? How do autism and ARFID overlap? What are common misconceptions about ARFID? How is ARFID being treated? How can parents and caregivers support people with ARFID? The Mental Hunger Tug

What does mental hunger feel like? Similar to how it is impossible to truly describe what an eating disorder feels like to someone without lived experience, I believe it is impossible to find the exact words to describe mental hunger. Constant food obsession? Torture? These are understatements! The best way in which I’ve been able to explain what it’s like to survive with an eating disorder, is through metaphors…as metaphors give me the power to break down a really complex idea and bring it in parallel with something that most people DO understand. In this episode, I explain how mental hunger feels like a game of tug-of-war and what you can do to WIN that war! 📖 Download my FREE GUIDE with answers to the top 10 most frequently asked questions about extreme hunger!🍩 Enroll in my course, Extremely Hungry to Completely Satisfied Connect with Livia:🍩 INSTAGRAM🌐 WEBSITE📚 BOOKS 📝 Read the blog post of this episode

Black and White Thinking in Autism and Anorexia

Black and white thinking, also known as polarized thinking or all-or-nothing thinking, is a very common mindset among individuals with autism and eating disorders. Although I’ve worked on my mindset so much over the past couple years that I’ve really improved when it comes to thinking in extremes, it wasn’t all too long ago that this polarized thinking held me back from living a full life. I was perfectionistic to the point of frequently deeming myself a failure, a people-pleaser to the point of believing one argument would cause someone to “hate me,” and only committed to anything if I had a guarantee I could be the best. Sound familiar? If so, this episode is for you! In today’s episode, autism and eating disorder recovery coach Livia Sara answers the following questions: What is the purpose of black and white thinking? How does black and white thinking contribute to eating disorders in autistic individuals? Why are autistic individuals more prone to black and white thinking? How can you neurally rewire black and white thinking in eating disorder recovery? My favorite strategies to combat black and white thinking so you can live the full life you desire and deserve 🌈 Buy Rainbow Girl: A Memoir of Autism and Anorexia🫶 Schedule a consultation call for 1-1 coaching here🌱 Get 20% OFF Midi Bites with code LIV20 Connect with Livia:🍩 INSTAGRAM 🌐 WEBSITE 📚 BOOKS 📝 Read the blog post of this episode and sources
