Breaking News: Liverpool reverse controversial furlough decision
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have reversed the controversial decision to furlough the club's non-playing staff. It was announced on Saturday that around 200 of the club’s workers were to be placed on the scheme that would see the government pay 80% of their salaries. Liverpool pledged to supplement the additional 20% to ensure no staff members was adversely affected by the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19. But the decision to use the job retention scheme put in place by the Conservatives was criticised widely criticised by supporters and by former players like Jamie Carragher. And now FSG have opted to perform a U-turn on their decision while CEO Peter Moore has written an open letter to supporters in which he says the club is ‘truly sorry’. The Agenda: Liverpool's Controversial Furlough Decision
Following Liverpool FC's decision to furlough some staff during the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Guy Clarke and the ECHO's Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst talk through the implications of the decision. In furloughing some of their staff, the government will now pay 80% of a salaries, while the club have confirmed they will top-up the remaining 20%. Road to Istanbul: Clive Tyldesley reflects on the Anfield night Hyypia and Luis Garcia shocked Juventus
Liverpool may well have been eliminated from the Champions League prior to football being suspended, but here on Blood Red we continue along the Road to Istanbul. Joining Guy Clarke and Dan Kay, as we look back on Liverpool's 2-1 quarter final first leg win over Italian giants Juventus is ITV and former Radio City commentator Clive Tyldesley. Clive shares his memories of the night, having been behind the mic for ITV as Sami Hyypia and Luis Garcia put the Reds into an early 2-0 lead on a raucous Anfield evening. Having covered Liverpool and Juventus' previous meeting, the 1985 European Cup Final at Heysel, Clive recollects the feeling prior to the game with this being the first time to two sides had met, almost 20 years on from the disaster that led to 39 people losing their lives. Liverpool have taken the decision to furlough some non-playing club staff – but those affected will continue to be paid 100% of their salary. Liverpool Classics: Klopp's Reds stun Man City on march towards Kiev
On this day, just two years ago, Liverpool welcomed Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.
