When your children grow up and get married, it’s a glorious life milestone, and we get to witness our children grow up to move into the next season and journey in their lives, which will likely span their lifetime! It’s awesome, but the fallen world has completely influenced the reputation and expectations one has of the Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, so much so that none of us likely want to be one, yet we all will be one day, Lord willing. When I say we don’t want to be one, what I mean is that we don’t want to be viewed the way the world views these roles within a family!! It's still a good idea to have a meeting with the young man who wants to take your daughter on a date. It's not old-fashioned at all, in fact it's extremely helpful to your daughter, but only if she wants that. Do, or will your daughters have this conviction? If relational discipleship isn’t strong in your home, you are likely moving towards pharisaical Christianity which will hurt your legacy. What happens in the home is the largest difference maker on experiencing a faith-filled legacy or not. Unfortunately too many Christian parents believe their being effective when God has actually called us to a deeper level of relational discipleship with their children. This episode will help you see if there are any areas you have a pharisaical home, or if it’s truly one of cultivating deep relationships with you, their siblings, and with Jesus. It’s also vital that discipleship is woven through the fabric of your everyday parenting.
