Don’t Be Afraid To Be Unapologetic About Defining Your Niche
In the spirit of NOT BEING all things to ALL people, I bring you this podcast episode today. For years, I’ve shared my passion for the importance of defining who YOU are and with confidence and certainty, OWNING your value. It’s important to me because I know how it feels to undervalue yourself and be fearful that you won’t be good enough.
I learned better and it’s my mission to help others learn the lesson as well. In this article from Entrepreneur.com, 7 Steps To Defining Your Niche, the writer mentions 5 qualities of a defined niche:
It takes you where you want to go—in other words, it conforms to your long-term vision.
Somebody else wants it—namely, customers.
It’s carefully planned.
It’s one-of-a-kind, the “only game in town.”
It evolves, allowing you to develop different profit centers and still retain the core business, thus ensuring long-term success.
Defining a niche can seem scary. I realize, if the objective is to make money… it is daunting to think you’d miss out on making it if you narrow your playing field to do so. I know it seems counter productive, but I promise you… getting in front of the people who actually WANT what you’re selling is better than casting a wide net and having a bunch of curious people who have no intentions of buying (or changing).
My guest in this episode of P. B. & Style is Ms. Takiyah Noble. She just fascinates me. I have to admit, when we first met, I wasn’t quite sure about how our personalities would align, but I am happy to say I am such a fan now and I know after listening to this podcast interview you’ll see why.
Takiyah is so passionate about her area of expertise, it’s infectious. What I love most about her, is her UNAPOLOGETIC viewpoint and ability to make me think HARD about what she says. She makes me want to do better. I would definitely qualify myself as being a part of her niche market and look forward to hearing more from her!
Whether you agree with her opinions or not, she has proven that defining your niche is a great way to put your value proposition to good use and as polarizing as her perspective may be, it’s hers and she’s brave enough to put it out there. For that, I believe she deserves the utmost respect…I’m confident you’ll have the same opinion after listening.
During this interview you’ll:
Learn the definition of a Minimum Viable Audience
Learn the litmus test for the WeKonomist Magazine (You’ll love her content “buckets”)
Learn what Takiyah says is “as unique to America as apple pie”
Learn what conversation ALWAYS leads to race in America
Hear a NON-POLITICAL political exchange
Don’t struggle with your certainty and confidence. I want you to BE THE BRAND and define a niche that takes you where you want to go. My Hwy 8: The Road To Your Inner Influencer FREE Video Course can help you with this.

Organization & Workflow w/ In The Details Darling Owner Jenna Daykin
Every morning I have a routine. It’s a process – Brush my teeth, wash my face, deodorant, check blood sugar, take medicine/vitamins then have my coffee while watching Good Morning America. My entire family knows my process so I rarely have any interference or hiccups getting my day started.
What I just describe to you is my morning WORKFLOW. It enables me to manage my expectations and the expectations of those around me. Imagine how TOGETHER you’d feel if you had a set process for how you attacked your work day – your business dealings – your customer experience…. A workflow consists of an orchestrated and repeatable pattern of activity, enabled by the systematic organization of resources into processes that transform materials, provide services, or process information. It can be depicted as a sequence of operations, the work of a person or group, the work of an organization of staff, or one or more simple or complex mechanisms.
I’ve found that being honest with what I need and what I like to do and about what I do best, is a great way to begin organizing the way I navigate my personal and business dealings. In this Inc.com article, the main takeaways are this:
You have to take a close look at what’s working
Think outside the box, and
Create a process to achieve consistency in your output.
Workflow is such an important part of growing and scaling your business, I went the extra mile in sharing it with you….
Recently, I IG “stalked” (not really, but true…lol!) and befriended Jenna Daykin of In the Details Darling. The first thing that struck me about Jenna’s Instagram profile was the tranquility of it. It was so soothing and relaxing to view and it gave me the impression she would be AS tranquil and soothing to talk to. I had to find out so I reached out and it just so happened I was looking for someone in the virtual assistance business to interview on the podcast. I know how important duplicable systems and creating workflows has been for my business and I wanted YOU to hear about it from someone (besides me) who’s doing it and doing it well. Thankfully Jenna agreed and she’s opening up about ALL THINGS workflow in this weeks episode of P. B. & Style.
During this interview, you’ll learn:
What question yielded the response “Gaining trust and Bringing Value”
The #1 thing you can do to have another set of hands without hiring another employee
The #1 way to overcome “the comparison game” that every successful business owner practices
How Jenna connected the dots from who she is to how she wants her brand to be seen by her desired client
How developing your own personal brand plays a key role in onboarding people into your business
AND MORE!
If creating a workflow sounds like a daunting task for you, this Workflow Worksheet I created will gently guide you through the process.

Leadership… Is It An Act Of Service OR Being An Authority?
The question of the hour is this…HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN? If you’re the type of person who needs to be noticed, who needs everyone to know you’re behind the curtain pulling the strings and making things work, are you serving those who need it OR do you want to be known for the person in charge?
I was reading an article from Inc.com about 3 Ways to Be a Leader in Your Industry and there was a sentence that really struck me… it was, “The best work happens when everyone is working to accomplish the same goals.” According to this article, there are at least 2 ways to be a leader in your industry that speak to collaborative efforts. I believe the article is worth reading because it really illustrates the way true industry leaders operate and that’s the whole point, right? Don’t we all work as hard as we do with the intent to make a difference in our niche? Much like Mr. Willie, this article touches on the need to be both inclusive of your clients, your employees, and with those whom you collaborate.
I know you’ll enjoy this interview. It’s an energetic conversation with John Maxwell Executive Director, Jeff Willie, We’re getting to the nitty gritty about LEADERSHIP. We’re talking about everything from what it is to what it isn’ and Jeff is sharing practical solutions to the question, “How To Become A Leader”.
During this podcast, you’ll learn:
The REAL definition of Leadership
Why You Should Consider A DISC analysis
Which Industry I Believe Could Benefit From Leadership Training
Practical Applications to Leadership

Content Creation That Leaves A Lasting Impression
OMG! One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in my business is finding the write description for the service I provide. It was Marketing Strategist, when I was doing strategic plans for small businesses and nonprofits. It was Signature Style, when I was doing mostly fashion/personal styling and now it’s PERSONAL BRANDING. The fact is, I have been doing the same thing. I help people and businesses attract their desired audience through authentic engagement. Though was never really short of customers when I used word of mouth and networking to get them, when I decided to go digital I ran into problems.
In 2015 I wrote a course. I went through the rigorous work of planning it, creating it and launching it only to be received by a whole lot of NOTHING. After a few years of working on my skills and researching best practices, I realized my issue was community. I needed to build a community of like-minded people. People who not only needed what I had, but had expressed that need and engaged with me to get answers.
Social media plays a HUGE role in my community building and content creation plays the biggest role of all. If I want to truly connect and build relationships, it’s important to get people off social media and into my INBOX (and me in theirs). This means posts, scripts, courses, landing pages, email sequences, webinars, and the list goes on and on. According to an article on Hubspot.com, 63% of marketers site “generating traffic and leads” as their top marketing challenge. If sounds like YOU, keep reading.
On today’s episode of P. B. & STYLE, I’m talking with Ms. Laneic Lavelle of THAT CONTENT LIFE. We talk all things content creation and she shares some tasty tips for finding your very own writing style.
From this interview, you’ll learn:
Some of the biggest mistakes made creating content
The most common misconceptions about content writing
Tips for creating a clear, consistent and authentic 30 second pitch
A quick and UNIQUE way to determine your writing style

Goal Setting & Strategic Planning
To be completely honest, I have always been that girl who needed to have structure around tasks, jobs, and well… life. I like to know where the boundaries are. My husband used to ask, “when are you going to go out and meet people? You won’t make make money sitting behind your desk all day.” In a way, he was right but to me, it was important to have my ducks in a row. I wanted to be prepared on the back end of my business JUST IN CASE the bottom fell out and business grew faster than expected. I guest that was my way of setting goals and strategic planning. I wanted to be proactive, not scattered and reactive.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the quote: “a goal without a plan is just a wish”. You’ll hear me use this quote repeatedly and the reality is, too many people begin important tasks without having a plan of action. Goals are not just a light at the end of tunnel. They are achievements we’re striving for. In order to achieve the things we want, we have to have an ACTION ITEMS. That action plan is the blue print to reaching goals.
There should be careful thought put into the blue print your use to reach your goals. My guest today, Sharon Richter of Focal Point Coaching, is breaking down the reasoning, process, and potential outcomes of goal setting and importance of strategic planning.
In this episode, you will hear:
Why goal setting and strategic planning is so important to your business
How your personal brand plays a role in the success of your plans and strategies
How to reverse engineer your goals to ensure success
Why you should “Eat That Frog”
I know how exciting but difficult it can be to hear something that can make a tremendous impact on your business, so don’t worry. I’ve got a couple of tools to help you get focused with what you heard today.
Is a 4 day video series with eight thought provoking questions that help you get clearer on your overall vision for your brand.
My BTB Business Journal has a plethora of tips, tools, and even worksheets to create S.M.A.R.T goals that will assist you in building a solid foundation for your brand.
That’s not all. Sharon is also a fantastic resource for all things goal setting and strategic planning. Visit her on her website or schedule time with her for more on how.
Finally, don’t forget to head over to iTunes or Spotify to leave a review on this episode. I love hearing your feedback and what you got out of the interviews.
