151: How to Drop the Corporate Mindset When You Transition into Entrepreneurship
In so many cases, people who step into entrepreneurship are leaving behind a traditional career. A coveted editorial position in fashion. A director title. An impressive track record. The corporate world puts a lot of value in accolades, credentials, and resumes. Which can be disorienting when you start a business. You may feel pressure to have “more experience” in order to be taken seriously. But do you really need to worry about that in the beginning? This week on the podcast I dive into this topic and give you my honest opinion, especially as it relates to this week’s question from a dear listener: How do you speak to your experience when your resume speaks of a different journey? How can you legitimize your credentials as someone who really cares to be there and be honest with others? I am coming from a corporate past, with everyone telling me to go back into finance, but I know there is gold in my new path. To submit your question, visit the show notes. 150: Rebranding the Postpartum Experience with Alissa Alter and Anne Omland
So… this episode is kind of a big deal. We’ve hit the 150th episode of the show with over 220,000 downloads and counting. I’ve been considering how I wanted to celebrate it for months. Should I have some super high-profile guest? Should I do it solo? Or should I do something different? After a few weeks, the answer became clear. I want to use this moment to let you in what’s been going on over here. I’ve been secretly co-creating a second business with two amazing women. Women who are not only doing really important work in the world, but who I know are soul-mate level friends. That’s Alissa Alter and Anne Omland. Alissa is a Women’s Health Expert & Motherhood Advocate, author of Unstuck: From Understudy To The Study Of Your Undercarriage, and host of the podcast Myth of Motherhood who is all about cracking open the taboo topics of pregnancy and motherhood. She uses movement, mindfulness, and good ol’ education to help mamas and mamas-to-be stop suffering in silence so that pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum can be healing and empowering stages of life. Anne is a Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Hypnobirthing Childbirth Educator, Women’s Health Coach, Doula-in-training and the founder of Mamakind, a platform where she creates personalized wellness plans that care for the whole woman on her journey to motherhood. In her former career, she was a VP at a Fortune 500 company and struggled with workaholism, and later found it challenging to become pregnant. She realized a deep disconnect between not only how our systems of care support women in their motherhood journey but also between her and her body. Six years and 3 little ones later, she’s found a passion in supporting women as they look to conceive, navigate pregnancy, and as they transition into new motherhood. As you’ll hear in the episode, these two went through my Your Wellness Brand Program in 2020 to build their businesses. I felt an instant connection with both of them—like we’d known each other for years. And over the summer, when I got the download for this new venture, I knew I couldn’t do it alone. In this episode, we chat about why both Anne and Alissa were a hell yes to co-founding a company together, the challenges that we each experienced after having babies and how there is a huge missing link for all women and birthing people, why the postpartum experience is so screwed up, what we believe it should be like, and how our platform will be part of the solution, and so much more! 145: How to Integrate Multiple Passions Into One Brand
Ever found yourself interested in multiple things—nutrition, movement, meditation, self-care, etc.? Or craving a variety of offers, projects, or opportunities to sink your teeth into? If yes, congratulations: you’re a multi-passionate entrepreneur. And while this is such a beautiful thing to be, it can often feel challenging to present yourself and your work in a way that is cohesive so that no one questions what you stand for. From writing your website copy to posting on social media, being clear on how all of what you have to offer fits together under one brand umbrella, is essential to not only becoming known for what you do, but also for attracting your perfect-fit clients. In this episode, I share my top recommendations for how to find the thread that ties all of your passions, interests, and projects together thanks to this week’s question which asks… While my main business is a virtual yoga studio, I am invested in other complementary, growing, and collaborative projects. How does one successfully bring these projects together as a cohesive brand? To me, my projects ALL relate and serve my greater public image. They all bring revenue and I feel on the right track with them all.... yet, my outward message is still awkwardly trying to find its unifying glue. To submit your question, visit the show notes.
