The Importance Of Unplugging From Your Business and Social Media
It is so important to take time away from work and even social media.
Until this morning, for the past four days, Nancy and I traveled with two of our dearest friends to Vermont for three incredible days of skiing in Killington.
We rented a house in the middle of the woods, where there was barely any Wi-Fi signal, so there was no real opportunity for us to even be on social media, let alone our phones.
Also partaking in an activity, such as skiing, forces you to be present in everything that you’re doing, and who you’re doing it with.
I can’t express to all of you, enough, the importance of giving your mind and yourself this much-needed rest and break from everything that we do personally and professionally.

In the many LinkedIn polls, I have conducted on the things that most frustrate the users on the platform, what takes the cake each and every time is the way that people are spamming and selling to their networks.
This is a big pet peeve of mine as well, but there is a way to spot a sales pitch that is coming your way:
1. The generic "I'd like to add you to my professional network" note was added to a connection request.
2. An immediate 18-paragraph long drunk-a-log message sent after accepting a connection request.
3. Any note, comment, or message that makes a bold promise

If This Doesn't Change, LinkedIn May Take Serious Action
I conducted a poll over the weekend about the rise in spam on LinkedIn, and if it has affected the response rate of those who are genuinely using the platform.
Of the nearly 130 votes, 77% said yes it has affected them in a negative way.
If this doesn't improve on the user side, LinkedIn will take some sort of action against those who are using the platform improperly.
But what can we do to prevent and not add to the spam?
1. Only add notes to connection requests if you know the person, or if there is a personal connection.
2. Never use any automated services to message and connect for you
3. Do not sell or pitch to your new connection in your initial message
