Barnes is the University’s first female provost and first female interim president. In 2020, she acquired a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership. She completed her graduate studies in academic librarianship and human-computer interaction at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing. She specializes in inclusive pedagogical methods, cognitive disruptive technologies, curriculum development, and concepts of adaptable leadership. Rob has managed major public health projects across sectors and has received state and national recognition for his work, including the 2009 Outstanding Prevention Educator Award from the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault. He has authored peer-reviewed research on innovative prevention initiatives, served as a keynote speaker at national and international conferences, and provided expert testimony on preventing workplace harassment for the EEOC and combating the opioid epidemic for the D.C. Council’s Committees on Health and Public Safety. Appropriately, Rob lives in Boston -- the nation's college capital. 95: College Rankings in Higher Education - In or Out? - with Robert Morse, Chief Data Strategist, US News & World Report

In this episode of The EdUp Experience, Joe and Liz talk with Robert Morse, Chief Data Strategist with US News & World Report.  Bob talks to us about the data, data analysis, indicators, strategy, and reasons for the rankings and why it can be used as a decision point for parents and students looking to make a higher ed decision.  However, rankings are not without controversy - so we ask questions about debt, inclusion, online education, and return-on-investment.  Bob gives us his take on the controversy but solidifies his belief in his work and the value of the ratings in higher education.  Do you agree or disagree with the validity of the rankings? Robert Morse is the chief data strategist for U.S. News. He takes the lead role in survey design, ranking methodology and higher education research as well as monitoring data collection for all of the company’s academic rankings, including Best Colleges, Best Graduate Schools and Best High Schools, as well as Best Global Universities and Best Online Programs. Morse developed almost all of the current methodologies that are used in the Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools ranking projects and has been working full-time on both the Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools editions since 1989.
