Ep 14 – Motivational Interviewing in Sports & Performance Settings

We hope you enjoy our conversation with Dr. Jeff Breckon, Head of Research in the Academy of Sport and Physical Activity at Sheffield Hallam University. Jeff is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with membership in both the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and British Psychological Association. He has provided MI training to over 200 organisations across the UK, Europe and North America and delivered the international MI ‘Training New Trainers’ (TNT) programme in Barcelona (June, 2009) and Krakow (October, 2013). Jeff has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers and presented internationally on the role of MI in sport, exercise and health exploring the role of MI and integrative therapies as well as the impact of MI training on workforce development programmes. Sylvie is a Distinguished Endowed Professor in the College of Medicine’s department of Behavioural Sciences and Social Medicine at Florida State University, where she is the founding director of the Center for Translational Behavioural Science. She is a pediatric health psychologist with over 20 years’ experience as a clinician and researcher. Glenn and Sebastian welcome Dr. Allan Zuckoff to the podcast. Allan is Vice President for Clinical Program Development at Vital Decisions, a company that provides MI-based telephonic advance care planning services to people with life-limiting illness. Carl Rogers, Person Centred Helping and Motivational Interviewing   Glenn and Sebastian welcomed Dr Christopher C. Wagner to the podcast to explore Carl Rogers, Person Centred Helping and Motivational Interviewing. Chris is an associate professor, licensed clinical psychologist, and certified rehabilitation counselor. His scholarship focuses on motivational interviewing (MI) and interpersonal processes in mental health/substance abuse treatment. He has focused on expanding MI theory and practice to a broader focus than originally conceived as well as developing MI group psychotherapy. He is the lead author on the MI in Groups book that is part of the official Guilford Press series on MI.
