Heart Rate Pioneer, Fleet Feet Founder and Trailblazer Sal Edwards

The year was 1977. Star Wars made its debut… the Apple II computer was released… Elvis Presley passed away at age 42… our hometown Denver Broncos experienced their “miracle season” on the way to the Super Bowl… Chuck E. Cheese pizza opens their first location…and disco was nearing it’s peak in popularity. But something else happened that year that may have influenced the world more than any of these: the first wearable heartrate monitor was developed for the Finnish National Cross Country ski team by Polar. That development changed the way both professional and amateur athletes trained and kicked the door open to our current “wearables,” which now provide more physiological data on our wrist than a room full of hospital gizmos could do just a few decades ago.Welcome to latest episode of the Catalyst 360 Podcast – your trusted resource for engaging, evidence-based health, wellness & performance insights.  Today’s guest is one of the trailblazers in the application of that heart rate data – Sal Edwards. Practical Tips to a Better Marriage Across the Generations

Marriage isn't easy and it isn't for everyone. But it doesn't hurt to tap into some guidance occasionally if you've decided it's for you. We’re hoping this special episode will provide a few ideas to tip the scales in a more positive direction for those who are either married, heading that direction, or have friends or clients who are looking for guidance along the way. Suzanna and I are in our 31st year of marriage and our 3 "kids" are in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. So we thought it would be fun to combine our "lessons learned" from the whole gang! Intriguing Science of Endurance: Dr. Alex Hutchinson

Years ago, a hot new book by one of my favorite columnists came out. I was leaving to speak at a conference taking place on a cruise ship (still my fav speaking engagement to date) but I couldn’t wait to dig in. So I contacted the author to see if it was possible to have an advanced copy shipped to the hotel and he made me a deal: he’d send me a PDF if I promised to buy a copy once it was available to the public. Done. I still have that PDF, covered with notes, underlines, asterisks and underlines. It didn’t hurt that his subject aligned closely w/ my PhD work, but the way he so effectively merged research grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go, even when that resulted in reading it on the beach during one of the cruise ship stops. Today we’ll dig into the curiously elastic limits of human performance with the writer whose work continues to shape the course of how we’re applying science here in the real world of endurance pursuits. Welcome to latest episode of the Catalyst 360 Podcast. Write YOUR Story - WSJ's James "Bob" Hagerty

What’s your story? It’s a question that opens the door to the story you want to tell. In contrast to a resume review, list of race results, or accomplishments of note, it provides you the freedom to reveal the elements of your life that color your canvas of time. It’s my favorite question to ask “soon to be friends” at a party or networking event and it’s a close cousin to the clear personal vision we discussed a few weeks back.
