RT Selects: C. I. Scofield: Deity Of Christ
RT Selects:
C.I. Scofield is a controversial and famous preacher who lived in the 1800s. His life story starts out very rough as a confederate soldier, a corrupt lawyer, and an alcoholic who destroys his own private practice and his family. His story changes completely when a friend tells him about Christ.
His sermon, "The Deity Of Christ," comes across as one part apologetic work and another part invitation to meet the same history changing Christ that Scofield met. It is a passionate defense of the person of Christ, whom our faith rests on.

Horatius Bonar, more famous as a hymn-writer, was a preacher in the 1800s from Scotland. He did everything he could during a tough time of transitions for the Church of Scotland. He also had a hard personal life, losing five of his own children during his life.
In this sermon, "Apostolic Sighs," Horatius points out that there is a rare glimpse into the life of the Apostle Paul and his own human worries and frustrations. But how Paul then turns these into hope in Christ and the good work that Christ will do for all who believe.

John G. Paton: Becoming A Missionary
John G. Paton is one of the premiere missionaries of the 1800s. His courage and adventure shown in the sight of hostile people-groups and unpleasant conditions helped lead many to take their faith more seriously. His impact on a tribe of cannibals in the New Hebrides was huge.
In this reading Paton discusses his desire to go to the New Hebrides people, but also the people and forces that were working against him and keeping him from being a missionary. Despite all the pressure, he stuck to God's calling for his life.

In this sermon, "The Faith Of Noah," Carroll pushes us to think about the work that God has been doing in the lives of believers since the beginning. That He calls them to tell others about the impending judgment that is on the world.
