Ever wish you had a great love spell without any bad karma that could help you attract the romantic partner you’ve been dreaming of? In this podcast episode, you’ll hear about the best love spell ever, plus a lot more on modern love and Tarot. First of all, she wasn’t born with the name Venus. She created the pen name to separate her personal and professional life. Good choice! Worshipping Aphrodite How did she decide to focus on Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess and equivalent to the Roman Venus? This began when she was a teenager and the Goddess of Love had great appeal. She was very relatable, since she had flaws like jealousy which made her seem more human. Venus’s mother had been a Wiccan follower and brought her up with that as her spiritual foundation. Even though her mom started out Irish Catholic, she came to this mystical path after graduating from high school. Becoming a Professional Tarot Reader Then I asked how she started doing Tarot readings as her work. In college, Venus studied theatre, performing arts and speech therapy. Somehow she became an administrative assistant at a laboratory. But all along, on the side she was doing readings for people. Then suddenly, she was let go from her job. Venus didn’t know where to turn, so her first thought was to reach out to a friend who read Tarot in a shop in Salem, MA. She asked if they needed any readers. Lo and behold, they did! Trekking up to Salem to the shop called Enchanted, she was greeted by a giant statue of Aphrodite as she walked in. That bit of synchronicity let her know immediately she was in the right place! What a clear and poignant sign. Years later, Venus still works at the sister shop today called Stardust. She said it was fate-entwined and I couldn’t agree more! How lucky that she didn’t have to flounder or wonder at all – her next career simply fell into place. Magic Is Like Prayer I asked what her magic is like and how she helps her clients. Venus thinks that many people still view magic and Wicca like something out of Hollywood. But the fundamental truth is magic is like prayer with actifiers. What’s an actifier? Crystals, incense, and words (or even rosary beads). It is just words like prayers. When Venus talks about spell work, she says the words you use have to have equal importance to the intention you put into the spell. Here’s an analogy to help you understand. Let’s say you have a souped up car, but if you don’t know how to drive, the car is useless. Or visa versa, if you’re a great driver but your vehicle is falling apart, you’re not going to get any where. Want to heal your heart before you look for love? Listen to this! The Love Spell When it comes to love spells, the Love Doll Spell is the one Venus shares with clients. You have two dolls that are kept separate within your home at first. Every day for a week, you move the dolls closer to each other. On the last day you put them together into an envelope, wrap them together and seal the envelope. This works to bring the romantic partner you seek toward you. The spell also works like a daily reminder that someone is coming to you. It puts you in the driver’s seat because you are the one bringing the doll closer to you. This gives the person who wants the romance a feeling of power. Important note: Venus only does this kind of spell work to attract the right person, not a specific person. She insists there must be autonomy or consent or she won’t be a party to it. Without this, it wouldn’t be a love spell – it would be a manipulation of some form. I love this idea! It’s so magical and has a strong physicality that offers powerful energy. A very creative and clever method to call in your match. It’s like the Law of Attraction, pulling in what you want to you by becoming an energetic match to it. Many Types of Love Next, I wanted to know how she came to give such good relationship advice. Venus admitted it wasn’t through her family and we laughed. Growing up, she had more misses than hits, but she did learn as she went along. Venus ended up in a good relationship with her husband by thinking about what kind of love she wanted. She preferred to sidestep the idea of “I’ll know it when I feel it” and sought a more concrete way to find her match. Venus decided to think of the different kinds of love to better define what she wanted in a partner. There’s familial love for family. Platonic love for friends. Physical love for celebrities or people she might meet at a bar. (I call that sexual attraction.) And romantic! This is how she came to define love for herself and what would work for her in a mate. Of all those loves, what did she want? More than romantic love seemed appropriate. Maybe a bit of platonic love, and a dose of familial love so he feels like family. Add a dash of physical love like seeing a stranger at a club. I was fascinated by this process and thought it was amazing. Back in my dating coach life, I had my clients make a list of what they wanted. But Venus’ method was a stroke of genius. Listen to more on the Tarot here. Exploring Aspects of Love When Venus was younger, she read a book called The Ethical Slut which was about different kinds of love. This included open relationships and polyamory which appealed to her when she was young. She says it’s a good read even if you’re monogamous, explaining how to find safety and identity. It teaches you how to release the aspect of control which limits how you go about relationships. When you allow others to be who they are, it takes the pressure off yourself as well. Then you can be more focused on living your life, authentically and ethically. Ultimately, Venus says being in a good relationship involves open communication and addressing things right away as they come up. Venus had some other gems to share about the difference between Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers in relationships, but you’ll have to listen to the podcast to enjoy the rest. Curious about the Faerie Realm? My guest reveals her real-life stories of the Fae, opening the Fae Portal and connecting with your heart and mind. Fae Folk in America Contrary to popular belief, the Fae Folk can be seen across the globe. Even here in America, you might encounter faeries and elementals while taking a walk in the woods or in any wild place in nature. I’ve seen them in my own backyard! My guest this week, Barb Gallagher, visits a special wooded area with a babbling brook that was once part of amusement park that is like an open door to the Faerie Realm. She thinks the residual joyful energy from that park of the past attracts all sorts of Fae Folk to the spot. Who Are the Sidhe? I asked Barb about all the kinds of faerie folk she’s seen which are quite a few. First, we talked about the Sidhe, which are descendants of Tuatha de Danann who were children of the Goddess Danu. This is from Celtic mythology. Other common names for the Sidhe are the Shining Ones and the Good People. They are Fae royalty, tall with long blonde hair in earth colored clothing. Think of Orlando Bloom in Lord of the Rings – so handsome with those pointed ears! Then she revealed that she has a Sidhe guide, a male who she has spent many lifetimes with. Today, he encourages her when it comes to learning about the faerie realm and offers guidance about communicating. Sepia-Toned Creatures One time she was walking in the woods and had just put down an organic apple as an offering, when she was suddenly surrounded by hundreds of sepia-toned beings about 2.5 – 3 feet tall. Barb freaked and ran out of the woods. She explained how this was a great honor, but she never expected to see so many at once and felt unsafe alone in the woods. It was frightening and she shut down. Later, she went again and just one of the gnome-like creatures came forward. Barb apologized for running off and expressed her fear. He told her that she’s never alone in the woods and pointed to her Sidhe guide. Brian Froud has captured what many of the faeries look like, but he focused on the not so pretty type. This reminds me of my own experience when I told Pan, king of the elemental world, that I was ready to see them. Suddenly hundreds of unattractive beings stepped forward through the tall grasses at the edge of my property which shocked me completely. Sending them away, saying I wasn’t ready, I felt shame and terribly sorry. I didn’t mean to be insulting but I should have asked to see a few at first to get used to them. Tree Spirits, Sylphs, & Undines Next, we talked about dryads which are tree spirits. Every tree has its own dryad and they facilitate communication between trees. I once stood on a massive stump and discovered how vibrant it still was, even after being chopped down! My husband felt this too although he’s not into the woo. Trees, even when chopped down, broken, or rotting, still communicate with and nourish other trees. Stone beings have spoken to Barb in those same woods. When you see a tree with roots that seem to grow out of the rocks or down over them, this is a sign that faeries are in the area. She learned this from Celtic Shaman Jane Burns and I took a class with her myself on this same topic! So, keep your eye out for that when walking in the woods if you’re looking for the faerie realm. How do the elementals differ from the fae? The elementals are about the earth, so beings like sylph which are air beings and undines which are water beings. The sylph help the dandelion seeds spread through the air. And I’ve seen the undines at the Westport, CT library which sits near the river. They jumped, flipped, and splash like dolphins. Barb thinks of the faerie realm as including both the Sidhe, little faeries with the wings like pixies, and the elementals. A bit more Celtic lore, the Sidhe had a battle eons ago with the Malaysians living in what is now Ireland and they lost. So, they agreed to live underground in the other world. Sidhe actually means from the mound. Why Talk to the Faerie Realm? This is all a lot of fun, but I asked Barb what she gets out of communicating with the Fae or what she learns. Barb says her heart gets full and sometimes she hears beautiful messages. One time she had hurt her back and she heard intuitively to go outside and lay of the grass in front of her garden. She laid down on her back in the sun and a blue being swam through the ground taking stuff out of her back and when it was done, she got up and her back felt good again. She’s also been guided to make flower essences for other people and she follows the advice. Later, looking up what she made, Barb discovered it was perfect for the emotional healing a neighbor needed. Going back to how her heart gets full, I asked what that was about. She said she felt a part of her that was missing was returned. I suggested that she might have felt connected to everything. It’s only through our human lens that we feel separated, but that is not true. Opening a Fae Portal What about Fae Portals? Barb took a class with a woman who taught about the Faerie Realm. She received an email saying that the Fae requested portals be opened on a certain day in the United States, so they could interact more easily with people. The Fae wanted to start bridging the gap. One day she was at a friend’s cabin in the woods with her husband, and she followed the instructions to open a Fae Portal. Fast forward a year, she and her husband were walking through the woods near the cabin again. Suddenly, husband stopped and pointed out a strange occurrence. Leaves were floating 3 feet above ground moving in a circular pattern that was parallel to the earth! This was a bit shocking to him since he wasn’t familiar with faerie magic. Then Barb recognized where she was and remembered she had opened the Fae Portal a year earlier. This was their faeries’ way of letting her know her efforts had worked and they appreciated what she did on their behalf! Amazing. Yet, when she went to Ireland, hoping to meetup with the Fae there, she was instructed not to even try it. The human- Fae relationship there is more contentious. Over time, humans started blaming the Fae for things that happened. For example, if a cow died or the milk was sour, they accused the faeries. How to See the Fae Start by connecting with nature. Set the intention to see and talk to the Faeries. Come from an honest place in your heart with love. And do your best to trust what happens. You might see them first or hear them – everyone is different and this is dependent on how your own intuition works. For me, I read a lot about the faeries and elementals. I read several books about the Findhorn Garden in Scotland – they grew amazing vegetables with the help of the elementals, plant devas and more. In addition I read several Tanis Helliwell’s book My Summer with the Leprechauns and The Elves of Lily Hill Farm among many others. What that means is if you keep thinking about what you don’t want and feeling badly about it, unfortunately, you could get more of the same! Here’s a tenant from Hawaiian Shamanism: “Energy flows where attention goes” It sure does. That’s why you want to catch yourself in that negative and unproductive thought loop and shift your thinking to what you DO WANT! Makes sense doesn’t it? Not so easy but it can become a new habit when you set that intention. Plus, it offers not only relief but also helps you create what you DO WANT! That’s a much better way to go, right? So, that got me thinking. Does this message apply to my life? It sure does and this links back to my last podcast snack about How to recover from a big fight fast. In this special Halloween podcast with my guest Marla Martenson, you’ll hear how I see dead people, about her witchy visit to Salem, MA, stories of dream paralysis and visitation, and so much more! A super fun and spooky episode to celebrate the thinning of the veil. Marla’s Salem, MA Adventures Marla went to Salem on a sacred retreat with her Shaman, Rizz, a full body trans-channel who allows Red Eagle, a Native American spirit to speak through him. With his wife, they lead sacred trips all over the world including Japan and Ireland. But this time they went to Salem. Rizz walked through the 10 bedroom Italian style villa in Manchester by the Sea that they rented for the group to feel the energy of the place. He chose the most haunted room for Marla! But she talked with the spirits before going to sleep, asking them to be kind and allow her the rest she needed. Thankfully they respected her wishes! Current Salem Witches She took a tour with the Mushroom Witch, pointing out local plants. Then another tour with Venus, a Witch dedicated to Love and the Goddess Venus. She always wears pink and red told a tale about sailors who would dock and go to the pubs to hear local stories and learned about the witches. That’s how Salem was dubbed the Witch City. Marla visited where the witches were hung in Salem and the group said a few prayers over the land. At this point the Massachusetts government has exonerated all the witches from the 1600s that were killed. There’s also a story how one of the two young girls who started this whole witch hunt by accusing women, went to the court after to admit they made it up! Now there’s some tough karma to work through. Why Is Salem Witch Rich? The reason Salem has so many witches is that they filmed an episode of the TV show Bewitched there. There’s a huge, life-size bronze statue on the green of Samantha Stevens the show’s main character. When I was in Salem with my husband a few years ago, I got my picture taken with it! Then in the 1970s, Laurie Cabot, one of the most famous US witches, had called the fire department to have them help her get her cat out of a tree. They wouldn’t come. But Laurie needed help, so she called again saying she was a witch and her familiar was stuck in a tree. That made the fire department curious and come running. The news reporting of this story gave witches everywhere the inspiration to let people know who they are. And over time, many gravitated to Salem, MA. What a great story! Marla’s Paranormal Story Marla did do some ghost hunting while there, on a tour with the group. They were in the basement of where the original courthouse building had been with ghost hunting equipment that picks up voices. The groups split up and she held the voice box, but little was heard. When it was time to go, Marla spoke to spirit saying, “I wish you  would have come through but we have to go, so good night.” Then from the voice box, they heard a male spirit respond saying, “Good night.” They all jumped and laughed. House Hunting & Ghost Hunting When I was looking for a house years ago, a realtor took me to see this adorable two bedroom home. The minute I climbed the stairs to the bedroom I turned right around and went back down. Someone had died in that house and was still hanging around! I just wanted out. Marla pointed out that billions of people have died anywhere you go and there’s nothing to fear. People die and move on. She spoke a bit about the recent passing of her mother and how there’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s just the soul leaving the body and returning home. While that’s true, ghosts are souls that have gotten stuck on earth and didn’t move on. Even still, Marla asked, “What’s the likelihood of one of those ghosts actually hurting you?” Pretty much slim to none really, so that’s something positive to keep in mind. Clearing Ghosts from Properties I had a podcast guest in the past who specialized in clearing houses, buildings and land of ghosts who were hanging around. In that episode, Tina Erwin shared a prayer you can say three times to chase away lost spirits and help them move on. Learn more about Tina sending ghosts to the light here.  Tina mentioned that someone had walked through the battlefield at Gettysburg, PA, a famous site from the civil war, saying this prayer and hearing spirits say, “Thank you!” Family Ghost Stories Next we moved on to talk about some of my own family ghost stories. At my aunt’s gravesite funeral, while we were all standing around saying prayers and watching her be put into the ground, she appeared to me sitting on the neighboring headstone. We didn’t speak but I knew it was her. However, she looked so much younger and I didn’t know her at that time in her life – I hadn’t been born yet. After we went to my cousin’s home for a meal, and there on the table was a photo of her mom, looking exactly as I had seen her! I had never seen the picture and was completely taken by surprise about how she looked. That’s who I saw at the cemetery, so that was beautiful confirmation for me. Driving in My Car After my uncle died, as I was driving home from a gathering, all of a sudden I felt more than one presence in the car with me. I was alone so this was a bit of a shocker. I could tell it was my uncle who had just passed, and his mother and father which were my grandparents. My grandfather had died just before I was born, so I never knew him, but had seen photos. None of them said a word, they just saw quietly while I drove. This was so long ago that if it happened now, perhaps I would get a message or have a conversation. Who knows? Visitations from Mom & Dad I did see my dad at a distance at his funeral. But my mom took center stage! Here’s what happened. I was the last one to say my part of the eulogy, and then the service concluded. For some reason I turned to look behind me as people were mulling about and leaving the room. Behind me was a stage and sitting at the edge with her legs dangling was my mother! I was shocked to see her there and said, “Mom, you’re sitting on the stage?” Like questioning what she was doing. She replied, “Why not it’s my funeral!” Good point mom. Certainly couldn’t argue with that logic. I’m sure if I’d been in a better state of mind, I could of thought of something better to say. But unfortunately, we didn’t talk any further. She does visit in my dreams from time to time, on occasion with my dad too. They’ve given me hugs, often when I needed them most in real life. Sweet, right? Marla & Dream Paralysis Then Marla talked about dream paralysis. She asked if I’d had any experience with this and I answered yes. it’s a bit scary for me. Anyway, Marla told two amazing stories on this subject. The first was about being held down to the bed at her wrists and how she called about Archangel Michael and Jesus to help her.
