The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 048: The Meaning and Importance of Self-Love and How to Attain It
February 13 is International Day of Self Love and Galentines Day, which is a day to honor and celebrate your friends. So many women are used to giving to and taking care of others, but we don't always take care of ourselves as we need and deserve, and today's episode is all about how we can take care of and love ourselves. We've been raised to think that taking care of and loving ourselves is selfish, but the opposite is true: Taking care of ourselves is "other-ish," and I explain why (it has to do with a concept called social or emotional contagion). It's easy to love ourselves and treat ourselves kindly when things are going well, but it's very tough when we've done something we regret or we feel foolish or embarrassed about our actions. And for those who have tendencies towards self-loathing, your first step should be moving towards self-tolerance, then "self-okayness," then self-acceptance, and self-like, on your way to self-love and self-celebration! It's a journey, but a critical one. According my dear friend, Stacey Hoffer, the Director of The Path of Self Love School, there are ten branches of self-love, and I walk you through them one at a time, and I discuss research from Kristin Neff, the top researcher in self-compassion. On February 13 I'll be holding a free, online Self-Love Celebration class, and I'd love to have you be a part of it! Register at https://carinrockind.com/self-love-celebration/. If you'd like to learn more about The Path Of Self-Love School and get your free self-love kit, go to https://pathofselflove.org/. I also mention Fab Fit Fun, which has become a sponsor of our show, and you can start getting your Fab Fit Fun subscription at https://fabfitfun.com. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 047: Being Fabulous and Having Freedom and Financial Independence with Genecia Alluora
More and more people are trying to find financial independence by starting their own businesses and doing so with online marketing as a major component of their business plans. There is a glut of people claiming to be experts in this, offering to teach you how to be successful online, but it's daunting knowing whom to trust and how to go about it. My guest today is Genecia Alluora, the Founder of Soul Rich Woman, South East Asia's leading network for female entrepreneurs connecting 11,000 women across the region, and she is full of outstanding advice and wisdom! She has helped countless women by teaching them to focus on their mindset, overcome limiting beliefs, and step outside of their comfort zone, all critical for entrepreneurial success. Genecia shares an invaluable amount of wisdom and motivation here, and among this is her recommendation that entrepreneurial women interested in launching or growing an online business find a mentor, first and foremost, and she gives several pointers on finding the right person. Genecia has had a lot of business setbacks, including failed partnerships, but she says, "You are not what you've done. You are what you've overcome," and her life and her success has been an example of this. Genecia refers to Marie Kondo's Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, and you can get Marie Kondo's book at Amazon here [https://amzn.to/2TnJpGW]. She also recommends 50 Ways to Change Your Mind and Change the World, by Chuck Spezzano, which you can get here [https://amzn.to/2SftmNT]. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 046: What Did Your Teenage Self Need To Hear?
The teenage years can be a very difficult time. They certainly were for me. This weekend I spoke to 250 teenagers, and I wanted to give them the exact message that they need to hear right now to know that they're going to be OK. Inside of each of us are all of our younger selves, us at every age we've ever been, still having an impact on our current selves, and today I'm discussing what we need to say those younger versions of ourselves, and how it can affect how we treat others. Before giving this talk I posed a question on Facebook, asking what people felt their own teenage selves needed to hear, and in this episode I share some of the best suggestions from the wisdom of this crowd, and my own thoughts on them based on my own experiences. I also mention Ritual Vitamins, which has been a sponsor of our show, and you can start getting yours at https://Ritual.com/purposegirl. I mention my Purpose In Paris retreat, which will be in August 2019, and if think you might be interested, please email me (carin@carinrockind.com) and I'll keep you posted. It would really mean a lot to me if you would go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review (hopefully a great one!), leave a 5 star rating, subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode, and download the episodes! The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 045: Behind The Scenes at The PurposeGirl Podcast
For years, a dream of mine has been to have a team of people supporting me in the work that I do, lifting up women to be their happiest, best, most empowered selves. Very recently that team has come together, and in today's episode my guests are two of these people: Elizabeth Webber and Jessica Funk. Elizabeth is a branding expert, graphic designer, and stationer, and she and cofounded The Happy Woman Shop last year. Jessica is the reason that we were able to have a super successful Women's Global Happiness Day in October 2018, and she's the most dedicated and capable assistant I could dream of having. Christie Owens was unable to be here for this episode but she's going to be managing our Facebook group, and there are LOTS of exciting things in the works for that in the very near future. We discuss the importance of being a part of a supportive sisterhood (Elizabeth and Jess have both been in my EMPOWERED program), and why it's so uncommon in our society today. Elizabeth shares her experiences with and insights into the current dating scene, and Jess shares her experiences mothering a young woman in the dating scene herself. We talk about the very special nature, the complexities, and the challenges of the mother-daughter relationship. And we end with a look ahead to 2019 and all of the wonderful things that we have in the works, from retreats to new products at The Happy Woman Shop and much, much more! To learn more about Elizabeth and her design and stationery services, check out her website (https://coquipaperie.com/) and follow her on Instagram (@LuxeByElizabeth). And stay in touch with Jess on Instagram as well (@JessRichardsFunk)! The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 044: Going After Our Biggest Dreams
My biggest dream in life has been to publish a book. I was on a path to accomplishing this earlier in my life but I let fear and insecurity derail me. In today's episode I talk about this huge dream of mine, how it has continued through the years, and what I've done to deny and suppress it and then to pursue it. I also discuss the importance of pursuing our biggest dreams, how to flip from being a victim in our life to being in control of our life, and the difference between avoid goals and approach goals. I mention my group coaching program, EMPOWERED, which you can learn about here [https://carinrockind.com/empowered]; the next group kicks off January 31, 2019! And you can learn about and apply for 1-on-1 coaching here [https://carinrockind.com/coaching/one-to-one-mentorship/]. I mention a book, Pebbles In The Pond, to which I contributed a chapter, and you can get a copy here [https://carinrockind.com/pebbles]. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 043: Being Happy At Work with Stella Grizont
My guest today is Stella Grizont. Stella is an executive coach and has helped over 1400 overachievers work happier and live better across 21 countries. She's a favorite for organizations like Google, Genentech, and J&J. She's on a mission to empower people to take control and end the dread they experience on the job and feel like their most alive self. You may have seen Stella featured on Forbes, MSNBC, ABC, and The Today Show. Stella notes that when we're unhappy at work, our brain typically wants to avoid it, to get away, to get out of the unpleasant situation, but escaping the bad is not the same thing as moving towards the good. In order to figure out what we should be moving towards, we first need to figure out how we want to feel, how we want to be, what we want to experience at work. Once we get clear on that, we can realize that there are a number of ways for us to accomplish this, and new possibilities open up. When Stella first begins working with a client who is considering a major change at work, she has them do an activity that helps them get clear on their vision, what it is they truly want to be moving towards, and you can get this for free at her website (www.VisionGenerator.com). After helping her clients determine their vision, she helps them figure out their underlying values, and then the process continues from there. Stella and I discuss the intersection of her work and one of my own specialties, life purpose, and she has some great insights into how we can reframe our own actions in order to feel better about ourselves and less self-critical. She also addresses what we can do when we're faced with very difficult coworkers. To learn more about Stella, check out her websites (www.VisionGenerator.com and www.woopaah.com), and follow her on Twitter and Instagram (@StellaGrizont), and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/stella.grizont or https://www.facebook.com/woopaah). The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 042: Being An Empowered Woman in 2019
According to research from 2017, 90% of New Years resolutions fail. There are many reasons why they tend to fail, and I address a few of these, but a big reason is that they aren't grounded in things that are truly meaningful for us. In this episode I teach you a New Years ritual that I've been doing for years that can help you pause and get deeper and really explore what's important to you. This ritual has 4 parts. The first one is a reflection on the year that just passed, the second is an exploration of what we learned from the past year, the third is about the wisdom that we want to take into the coming year, and the fourth is about our desires for the coming year. I also talk about what it means to be an empowered woman, and how we as women often give away our own power. When we're empowered we have a greater ability to resist the influence of others and to control our own outcomes, and every woman should be so empowered. I've designed a 5-step plan for a woman to become truly empowered, and I'll be holding a free, live, group coaching call all about this on January 2, 2019. To register for this call, click here [https://zoom.us/meeting/register/448c25fd8037f2f67510d14dfea9e911]. In addition, in January 2019, I'll be offering a free 30-minute call for a few women who have been considering coaching with me and are ready to take the plunge and make 2019 the year in which they're going to be their most empowered selves! If this sounds like you, please go to https://carinrockind.com/contact-me/ and let me know you're thinking about coaching with me, tell me what you're hoping for in 2019, and my team can schedule a call. But I can only offer a few calls, so please reach out as soon as you can. Also, in this episode I've asked you to leave me voicemail at http://purposegirl.com/voicemail, and tell me your name, where you're from, what you love about The PurposeGirl Podcast, and what topics you'd love to hear on this show.
