EP99 | Designing The UNREAL World of The Mandalorian (Guest Ian Milham)
If you haven't seen The Mandalorian (*cough* Liam *cough*), you're missing out on more than just a cute puppet and Werner Herzog. Instead of green or blue screens, Season 1 utilized LED backgrounds called The Volume that allowed for a completely virtual world to be the backdrop of the show. For the first time, you could move a mountain or shoot during golden hour all day long. This is the future of production, and Season 2 looks to be even crazier. We needed to take a deep dive into this technology, which is why our guest for this episode is Ian Milham, the Virtual Production Supervisor for Seasons 1 & 2 of The Mandalorian. He's the one who can move the mountain in the background of a shot, and he's the one that spoke with Host Mike Pecci about the technology that is going to change our industry. Ian bridges the distance between video games and film production with his experience at LucasArts, being the Art Director for Dead Space, and now with ILM and Disney, so be prepared for a nerdy deep dive into video games, virtual production, and maybe get a look at what's to come with Season 2 of The Mandalorian.Check out Ian Milham's Website:http://ianmilham.com/Mike Pecci's IG:instagram.com/mikepecciILWP's IG:instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspodILWP Subreddit:www.reddit.com/r/inlovewiththeprocessThe Mandalorian Season 2 Premieres October 30th:https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a30360981/the-mandalorian-season-2/The Volume: https://youtu.be/gUnxzVOs3rkAn article about The Making of The Mandalorian: https://www.starwars.com/news/the-mandalorian-stagecraft-featureThe Making of Dead Space:https://youtu.be/xiLcKTThBY8WE GOT SHIRTS: Buy 'em here: shop.upstatemerch.com/ILWP/shop/homeEmail us to see 12KM: inlovewiththeprocess@gmail.comFeaturing Music by Code Elektro:www.codeelektro.com/The Episode is Sponsored by:Puget Systems: puget.systems/go/inlovewiththeprocessPuget Systems Consultation: www.pugetsystems.com/landing/Puget-…_hsmi=86870814Quasar Science: www.quasarscience.com/Industry Jump IG: www.instagram.com/industryjump/Industry Jump: www.industryjump.com/Support our show by signing up for a 30 day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InLoveWithTheProcessILWP Sponsor Page: www.inlovewiththeprocess.com/sponsors Hosted on Acast. EP98 | Rock Rags and Record Stores (Guest Scott Crawford)
"You don't want to listen to that shit." The smell of mildew; old cigarettes; sweat seeped into everything. You get back to your car with a record. Not the one you originally selected, but one from a band you've never heard of. A band the sketchy employee swears you need to hear before you die. Your heart's pumping. It feels dirty. It feels dangerous. Like you shouldn't be doing this. Like you'll get caught. That feeling's what this episode is all about. Host Mike Pecci and guest Scott Crawford grew up listening to the outcasts, the rebels, the ones in the pages of CREEM magazine. Thanks to Scott, the story of CREEM is being told so everyone can know the lives of the people who lived just as fast and dangerous as the bands they wrote about.Watch CREEM:https://www.creemmag.com/Watch Salad Days:http://saladdaysdc.com/Follow Scott on Twitter:https://twitter.com/saladdazed?lang=enMike Pecci's IG:instagram.com/mikepecciILWP's IG:instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspodILWP Subreddit:www.reddit.com/r/inlovewiththeprocessILWP Episodes mentioned in the episode:https://www.inlovewiththeprocess.com/musicians/ep45Spotify CEO says musicians aren't making enough music:https://www.npr.org/2020/08/10/901064434/comments-from-spotify-ceo-anger-some-musiciansWE GOT SHIRTS: Buy 'em here: shop.upstatemerch.com/ILWP/shop/homeEmail us to see 12KM: inlovewiththeprocess@gmail.comFeaturing Music by Code Elektro:http://www.codeelektro.com/The Episode is Sponsored by:Puget Systems: puget.systems/go/inlovewiththeprocessPuget Systems Consultation: www.pugetsystems.com/landing/Puget-…_hsmi=86870814Quasar Science: www.quasarscience.com/Industry Jump IG: www.instagram.com/industryjump/Industry Jump: www.industryjump.com/Support our show by signing up for a 30 day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InLoveWithTheProcessILWP Sponsor Page: www.inlovewiththeprocess.com/sponsors Hosted on Acast. EP97 | You Deserve To Be Paid For Your Work (Guest Hayley Akins)
Imposter syndrome sucks. At some point we've all had it, and the sad truth is that young artists are swindled by companies trying to get great work without paying for it. Host Mike Pecci reiterates this message on the show constantly: You need to charge enough for your work. Don't let these assholes take advantage of you. In the motion design world, Hayley Akins is one of the loudest voices promoting that same message. She founded Motion Hatch to focus on the business side of motion design and begin the conversation of what and how to charge fairly for your work. This is an episode where you're going to want to take notes. Your bank account will thank you.Follow Motion Hatch on Instagram:instagram.com/motionhatchCheck out Motion Hatch:http://motionhatch.com/And Client Quest:https://motionhatch.com/client-questLet Hayley know your thoughts on the episode:hello@motionhatch.comMike Pecci's IG:instagram.com/mikepecciILWP's IG:instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspodILWP Subreddit:www.reddit.com/r/inlovewiththeprocessSeth Godin's "The Dip" is available on Amazon.I checked. EP96 | The Importance of Flow (Guest Chef Frank Prisinzano)
You're in the middle of cooking something in your kitchen, and you have to grab the spatula. Where is it? Did you have to think about it or did you already start moving toward where you know it will be? Our guest this week, Chef Frank Prisinzano, has been helping thousands of people on Instagram by teaching them simple recipes that will knock the socks off your dinner guests. What he and Host Mike Pecci really get into, however, is the importance of establishing that flow through repetition and practice. Whether it's a kitchen or a film set, maintaining flow helps you to stop focusing on your tools so you can dive into the art of what you're doing.Follow Frank on Instagram:instagram.com/frankprisinzanoMike Pecci's IG:instagram.com/mikepecciILWP's IG:instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspodILWP Subreddit:www.reddit.com/r/inlovewiththeprocessCrispy Egg:instagram.com/p/CDhscR8DwFeWhy no Brands:instagram.com/tv/BndxQSBA2j9The Episode is Sponsored by:Puget Systems: puget.systems/go/inlovewiththeprocessPuget Systems Consultation: www.pugetsystems.com/landing/Puget-…_hsmi=86870814Quasar Science: www.quasarscience.com/Industry Jump IG: www.instagram.com/industryjump/Industry Jump: www.industryjump.com/Support our show by signing up for a 30 day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InLoveWithTheProcessILWP Sponsor Page: www.inlovewiththeprocess.com/sponsors Hosted on Acast. EP95 | Cinematography: How to Get Big in the Industry (Guest Greig Fraser)
Yeah, yeah, yeah... of course we push for you to not be so worried about the finish line: to be In Love With The Process. It's not about the awards. It's not about the recognition. It's not about the money. But like- come on... When you're watching the newest Star Wars film and flipping out over the leaked Batman footage that voice starts whispering "That's gonna be you. You're going to be the one making that." It's ok. We admit that we've thought the same thing. But how do you actually BECOME that person? Host Mike Pecci was able to learn that from this week's guest: Greig Fraser. Greig has shot huge blockbusters including Vice, Zero Dark Thirty, and the best modern Star Wars film: Rogue One. He's also the guy who shot the upcoming DUNE and Batman films. Yeah. We know. Grab those noise-cancelling headphones and get ready to learn what it takes to become one of the most sought-after DPs in Hollywood.Follow Greig Fraser on IG:instagram.com/greigfraser_dpMike Pecci's IG:instagram.com/mikepecciILWP's IG:instagram.com/inlovewiththeprocesspodILWP Subreddit:www.reddit.com/r/inlovewiththeprocessEskimo Joe - Liar:vimeo.com/17168534Interview with Denis Villeneuve: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIdV7AWd3nsThe Episode is Sponsored by:Puget Systems: http://puget.systems/go/inlovewiththeprocessPuget Systems Consultation: www.pugetsystems.com/landing/Puget-…_hsmi=86870814Quasar Science: www.quasarscience.com/Industry Jump IG: www.instagram.com/industryjump/Industry Jump: www.industryjump.com/Support our show by signing up for a 30 day free trial at www.audibletrial.com/InLoveWithTheProcessFright Rags (10% off at checkout w/ code: ILWP10):www.fright-rags.com/ILWP Sponsor Page: www.inlovewiththeprocess.com/sponsors Hosted on Acast. ILWP 8_13_20 | Designing and Creating an Epic Movie Scene ( with Mike Pecci)
Let's get deep into how to start designing a scene for a movie. Not just any scene, but the type of sequence that audiences will remember for the rest of their lives. What lenses do you pick, how does the camera move, what coverage do you get for the edit. Host Mike Pecci tackles it all and walks us through the scene from Indiana Jones Temple of Doom that has stuck with his since the first time he say it at 13 years old. If you are looking to improve your directing skills, editing skills, or story boarding techniques, this podcast is a must!
