Connor Burns Speaks On Running 3:58.83 In The Mile As A Junior In High School
On June 2, 2022, Connor Burns wrote his name into the history books by becoming the 15th high school American boy to break four minutes in the mile. His time of 3:58.83 puts him as the #7 at the distance all time.
Many were scratching their heads on the night of June 2. I was too. So I sent a message to Connor within seconds of him finishing to see if he’d be willing to do an interview. This podcast is a deep-dive into Connor’s history in the sport, his historic race on June 2, and his plans for the future. This episode is a fun and insightful one!
Looking to the future, Connor is far from satisfied. Alan Webb’s high school national record of 3:53.42 may only last one more year… As he stated on the podcast, “Kind of looking at that national record for Alan Webb. Definitely see if that’s in the cards or not, but definitely am eyeing that down…”
Next up, you can catch him doubling the distance in his pursuit of a national title at the Brooks PR 2-mile presented by @soundrunning

Sean McGorty Speaks After Making His First US National Team: Lessons and Reflections From This Race.
Back for his third appearance on the podcast is the man, the myth, the legend, Sean McGorty. Sean is fresh off of making his first US national team in the 10k!
Last Friday, Sean placed third in USATF 10k National Championships. This race was as thrilling as they come. Sean was in sixth with 110m to go and he used a monster kick to make his dream come true of representing his country on a global stage.
Sean has had five significant surgeries in the last five years. When many people would have thrown in the towel, Sean kept working and dreaming. Setback after setback couldn’t hold Sean back. Some call him the King of Comebacks.
This episode was a really fun one! Sean and I both basically had a 47min conversation and it just happened to be recorded (: nothing too serious or formal, just two friends talking about some recent events! We also go through your listener questions. We even take one from the legend himself Mathew Centrowitz. Please like, subscribe, and share with your friends to help us out! Shelby Houlihan Speaks On A Year Of Hell: Her 4 Year Ban, Her Story, Biggest Misconceptions, Why She's Clean, & More.
On June 9, 2021, Olympian & American Record Holder Shelby Houlihan was banned from the sport of running for four years. Over the past 11 months, Shelby has done anything and everything to prove her innocence. She’s done things that cost a fortune just to try and bring back the thing she loves: competing and training at the highest level possible.
Despite mounting evidence helping prove her innocence, the AIU ruled Shelby Houlihan guilty of taking a performance-enhancing substance. This takes out four critical years of her career. As her coach, Jerry Schumacher says, “She just might be the best 1500m runner in the world this year, but we will never get the opportunity to find out. And that’s a tragedy.” Shelby has devoted her whole life to reaching the pinnacle of the sport. She’s gotten to where she is through hard work, passion, dedication, and a mindset like no other. Nowhere along the way has Shelby ever taken shortcuts or done anything illegal. At the youngest of ages growing up in Sioux City, Iowa, Shelby would tell her mom, “Mom, I’m going to be the best. I’m going to be somebody someday.”
The one thing Shelby has not been able to do is to speak publicly about her ban due to not wanting to upset the AIU during her appeals process. Over the past 11 months, Shelby, her teammates, and her family have all been subject to extraordinary slander and hatred. This episode is Shelby’s side of the story. What actually happened behind the scenes and how this process has affected her life.
You may disagree or not believe in Shelby, but I sincerely ask you to listen to this episode. You will benefit greatly from hearing Shelby’s vulnerability, heart, and openness in sharing her story. We could be here endlessly debating all the different facts of the case, evidence on both sides, and much more. But that’s not what we’re here to do. All we’re here to do is give Shelby an opportunity to share her heart, give her side of the story in full, and give her the opportunity to answer every misconception about the situation.
As Shelby’s coach Shalane Flanagan stated, “We are living in a nightmare that we can’t seem to wake up from.” I will always stand for those who I believe in. I believe in Shelby Houlihan and you should too. Shelby Houlihan is a hill I’m willing to die on.

The Woman Behind The Success Of The Bowerman Track Club: Emily Pritt Shares Her Story
In episode sixty-six of The Running Effect, I have the great privilege of speaking with Emily Pritt. Emily is the Director of Brand Marketing at the Bowerman Track Club. She's also the Youth Club Director and a Nike Campus Coach. In addition to this, Emily is an Athlete Services Manager at Flynn Sports. In this episode, we go through all of this and more!
Emily chronicles her journey in the sport of running, the lessons it's taught her, and more. She then takes us through all the amazing work she does over at The Bowerman Track Club. Emily goes through her career in marketing and her journey to the positions she now holds. Emily is one of those people who is vital to the success of the athletes.
Every athlete I've talked to on BTC about Emily has talked about how hard-working and vital Emily is to the team. Many people see the results of the Bowerman Track Club, but don't see the people behind their success. One of the main people behind their success who gets little recognition is Emily.
Last, but not least, Emily talks about the BTC High School Running Camp! She goes through the creation of the camp and pitches the idea to all of you high schoolers to sign up.
So I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did! Emily's positive spirit is contagious and her story is inspiring to say the least. Please like, subscribe, and share with your friends to help us out! You can also give us a five-star review on Spotify. Emily will be back soon!
