PROJECT 2:59 Episode 4: Don't Count The Days, Make The Days Count.

High School Sensation Jane Hedengren Shares Her Story, Running 4:35 In The Mile As A Sophomore, & Future Goals

Today on the podcast is one of the biggest up-and-coming stars in the country, Jane Hedengren! This past sophomore year, she set state records in the 1600-meter run, the mile, the 3000, and 2-mile this past season and swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 at the Class 5A state meet, leading her school to the state title. Hedengren clocked her state-best mile and 2-mile times, respectively, in a four-day span with victories at the Brooks PR Invitational (4:35.69) and Nike Outdoor Nationals (9:54.38). Her mile time ranked No. 1 among girls' prep competitors in 2023 and No. 8 in outdoor history. The 2-mile clocking ranked No. 3 nationally this spring and set a new sophomore national record. Her 9:24.56 in the 3,000 at the Penn Relays, where she took second, ranked No. 2 in the nation, and she secured her fourth state record by winning the 1600 at the BYU Invitational in 4:43.14. In today's conversation, Jane shares her story and all that has led her to this place of excellence. NCAA Champ, Team USA Member, & 3:51 Miler Joe Waskom Shares Stories From His Triumphs

Today on the podcast is one of the most accomplished NCAA runners of all-time (and he's not done yet!), Joe Waskom.  If you're not familiar with Joe, he boasts an impressive track and field career highlighted by his numerous achievements. In 2023, he secured the Silver Medal at the U.S. Outdoor Championships and earned the title of NCAA Runner-Up at 1,500-Meters. His dedication to the sport has earned him multiple recognitions, including 2023 All-America First Team honors for both the 1,500m outdoor, the Mile, and Distance Medley Relay indoor events. He was the 2022 NCAA Champion at 1,500-Meters and the 2022 Pac-12 1,500m Champion. Waskom's personal records include a blazing 3:34.64 in the 1,500m, and a 3:51.90 school record in the Mile. He's made his mark not only athletically but also academically, earning a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team multiple times and receiving Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll distinctions. Joe's commitment to excellence extends beyond the track, making him a well-rounded student-athlete. In today's conversation, Joe and I have a wide-ranging conversation on all things his career and successful past few years. His coaching prowess is evident through his instrumental contributions to the Lumberjack teams' multiple victories at the Big Sky Championships and NCAA National Championships. Notably, he helped guide athletes like Luis Grijalva, Drew Bosley, Nico Young, and Abdihamid Nur to impressive feats, including NCAA titles and Olympic participation. Under his guidance, the men's track & field and cross country teams have achieved remarkable success, culminating in championship wins and numerous All-America honors. Dream On: Stanford's Juliette Whittaker Shares Her Pursuit Of Greatness

Today's episode is one I've been wanting to make happen for over a year now! I have the extreme privilege of speaking with Juliette Whittaker. Juliette is an exceptional athlete who competes for Stanford University. Throughout her collegiate career at Stanford so far, she has garnered numerous accolades, including winning the NCAA indoor distance medley relay championship in 2023 and being named a four-time All-American. She's claimed titles like the Pac-12 800 champion and Pac-12 Women's Track and Field Freshman of the Year in 2023. Juliette's impressive athletic record extends to her time as a U.S. under-20 800 champion and a national high school outdoor record-holder for the 800 meters. Her exceptional personal bests, including a 1:59.04 in the 800 and a 4:12.49 in the 1,500 meters, have solidified her as a top performer. Notably, she's earned the Stanford Athletics Board Conference Athlete of the Year award and has excelled academically, making the USTFCCCA All-Academic list and being named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. Juliette's accomplishments, from setting records to winning championships, speak to her dedication and remarkable talent in the world of track and field.
