Lessons From One Of The Youngest Coaches In The NCAA: Coach Ian Moini + Insights From Coaching NCAA 5k Champ Parker Wolfe
Today on the podcast is one of the youngest, most successful coaches in the NCAA, Coach Ian Moini.
Entering his fourth season coaching the Tar Heels, Moini has helped turn the program into one of the best distance running programs in the country, finishing fifth in the Program of the Year rankings by the USTFCCCA. He has directly coached four Tar Heels to 10 individual ACC championships. His tenure has also featured team success, such as the Tar Heels winning their first ACC Cross Country Championship since 1985 and their first ACC Indoor Championship since 1996, while achieving their best finish, 5th place, at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 1973.
Moini has been a part of rewriting history, with six current school distance records being set since his arrival in Chapel Hill. Eight of the top 10 outdoor 5,000m performers have been coached by Moini in the past three years. In his third year at Chapel Hill, Moini coached Parker Wolfe to become North Carolina's first 5,000m national champion at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Ian Moini joined the UNC track and field and cross country coaching staff prior to the 2021-22 season. He works primarily with the Tar Heel men's and women's distance runners. In 2022, he was helped sign the No. 5-ranked men's distance recruiting class in the nation.
Moini is a 2021 UNC graduate with a bachelor's degree in education and a minor in coaching education. He was a member of the varsity cross country and track teams at Carolina.
He utilized his last semester of college to volunteer coach at Eastern Michigan University in 2021. While there, he worked with the men's and women's distance runners. The men's team won the Indoor MAC Championship and Baldvin Magnusson placed seventh in the 3000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In today's conversation, we go into Ian's journey as a coach and as a successful athlete himself to get to this point. We dive into his years as a coach and the lessons he's learned along the way!

Today on the podcast is newly minted Olympian James Corrigan!
James has had quite the wild past few months going from 9th at the NCAA Meet to placing third at the US Olympic Trials. James flew out to Penn and got the job done, qualifying for his first Olympic Games in Paris.
James has run 4:01 in the Mile (at altitude), 8:13 in the steeplechase, 13:30 in the 5k, and was an All-American in his first NCAA Cross Country Championships.
James will be a junior this upcoming fall at BYU.
In today's conversation, James takes me through his wild last month, from making the Olympics to getting married and everything in between. We break down his remarkable performance at the US Olympic Trials and document what it took to get to that place.

Today's episode of the podcast is one of the most profound conversations I've ever had.
I have the privilege of speaking with Peter Louis!
Peter is the founder and visionary leader of Braveheart Ministries. Based in Dallas, Braveheart exists to see the image, character and nature of Jesus Christ formed in people.
Peter lives in Dallas with his wife, Kristi, and five children. With a diverse and storied background as a professional athlete, businessman, consultant, pastor and teacher, Peter carries with him a wealth of leadership insights and diverse skill sets. He has written four books to date: Back to the Gospel, Back to Pentecost, Keep the Blood Warm and Now That You’re Born Again.
Peter played Professional-Soccer for FC Dallas and had a very successful career as a soccer player before his current life.
Peter is also a big runner, having run marathons & ultra-marathons. He ran a marathon to celebrate his 40th birthday a few months ago (discussed in the episode).
Peter is extraordinarily gifted at speaking on a plethora of topics, and I pick his brain on so many today. Peter shares his thoughts on pain, addiction, modern-day struggles, why worldly desires will never fufill you, smiling while running, and so much more!

The Dark Side Of Professional Running With NIKE Athlete Emily Venters
Today on the podcast is NIKE athlete Emily Venters!
Emily has run 8:58 (3k), 15:20 (5k), and 31:48 in the 10k.
She has the 6th fastest 10k in NCAA History, is a 5x All-American, was the 10k National Runner Up in 2023, 3rd in 5k in 2023, and 6th at USAs 2023, and back in 2018, was a member of U20 team USA world team for 5k.
Emily recently opened up on social media about struggling with depression in her time as a professional runner. I think so few pro-runners are good at being open about their struggles, so I was so appreciative of Emily for being so open and vulnerable about sharing this part of her journey.
In today's conversation, Emily takes me through her past year as a professional runner, the ups and downs that have come with it, her journey within the sport, her ambitions for the future, and so much more!
