Ugly American Werewolf in London: Bad Company - Bad Company (The Debut Album)

On May 24, 1974, the world were introduced to new "supergroup" on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song record label with the self-titled debut of Bad Company. Sporting a world-class lineup of Paul Rodgers (Free) on vocals, Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople) on guitar, Boz Burrell (King Crimson) on bass and Simon Kirke (Free) on drums, Bad Company were seasoned veterans of the studio and the road. After becoming disenchanted with their previous bands, the guys got together to form a straight ahead hard rock act that was built for American rock radio and to play live. And while the record went gold in their home of the UK, Bad Company (1974) is 5x platinum in the US.Paul Rodgers provides can go from singing with raw power on Rock Steady to the sweet Seagull to the soulful lament in Ready For Your Love. Ralphs big guitar riffs would help define what 70s hard rock was and the rhythm section of Burrell and Kirke were steady and creative. Though only two songs were released as official singles (Can't Get Enough & Movin' On), US rock radio fans have become familiar with the entire album thanks to DJs digging into this record for half a century. The Wolf & Action Jackson had a fun time going down memory lane with this one!Ugly American Werewolf in London WebsiteUgly American Werewolf in London Store - Get your Wolf merch and use code 10OFF2023 to save 10%!Visit our sponsor RareVinyl.com and use the code UGLY to save 10%!TwitterThreadsInstagramYouTubeLInkTreewww.pantheonpodcasts.com Learn more about your ad choices. Shout It Out Loudcast: "Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions"

This week Tom & Zeus review the 1997 grunge influenced KISS album, "Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions" This was KISS' 17th studio album and the 22nd KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL.Carnival Of Souls is a very polarizing KISS album. The album was recorded with the Revenge era KISS lineup right before the KISS Reunion. However, it was not released immediately. Bootleg copies of the album were wildly circulated and the band then decided to release the album on October 28, 1997. The band did not promote the album, nor tour on the album. It also was deemed to be KISS trying to be grunge. The album was produced by Alice In Chains producer, Toby Wright. The songs were dark and heavy with a lot of grunge like qualities. This may have suited the Revenge era KISS, especially Gene Simmons, but not Paul Stanley. This ended up becoming the last non-makeup KISS album and the last album with Bruce Kulick as well. This is the only album to feature Bruce Kulick on lead vocals on a KISS song, the last track on the album, "I Walk Alone."As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed.Find out who loves this album and who calls this album "Music From The Elder Part Two" and if that's a positive thing. Oh and don't miss the discussion of another Gene Simmons classic song title. To Purchase Carnival Of Souls The Final Sessions On Amazon Click Below Carnival Of Souls The Final Sessions  For all things Shout It Out Loudcast check out our amazing website by clicking below: www.ShoutItOutLoudcast.com Interested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content? Care to help us out? Come join us on Patreon by clicking below: SIOL Patreon Get all your Shout It Out Loudcast Merchandise by clicking below: Shout It Out Loudcast Merchandise at AMAZON Shop At Our Amazon Store by clicking below:Shout It Out Loudcast Amazon Store Please Email us comments or suggestions by clicking below:ShoutItOutLoudcast@Gmail.com Please subscribe to us and give us a 5 Star (Child) review on the following places below:iTunesPodchaserStitcheriHeart RadioSpotify  Please follow us and like our social media pages clicking below:TwitterFacebook PageFacebook Group Page Shout It Out LoudcastersInstagramYouTube Proud Member of the Pantheon Podcast click below to see the website:Pantheon Podcast Network Learn more about your ad choices. Rock is Lit: Rock Queen Writers: A Panel Discussion on Writing About Musicians in Fiction, with Jessamyn Violet, Mallory Smart, Claire Hopple, Kirsti MacKenzie

*Listen to the audio-only episode here, or watch the video version on YouTube, which may make putting voices with faces easier since there are five people in the interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkCdyH7Y_YM*The audio-only episode was taken directly from the video without further editing.I’m so excited about this special episode of Rock is Lit. It’s a first for the podcast, actually: a panel discussion, with four amazing women rock novelists, hailing from Canada to Chicago to LA and back to my neck of the woods here in Asheville, NC. Kirsti MacKenzie, Mallory Smart, Claire Hopple, and Rock is Lit veteran Jessamyn Violet are joining me to talk about our experiences and thoughts about writing fiction about musicians. Jessamyn Violet is a writer and musician out of Venice Beach, CA. Her debut novel, ‘Secret Rules to Being a Rockstar’, was published in April 2023 by Three Rooms Press. Short fiction can be found in ‘Ploughshares’, ‘Lit Angeles’, ‘805 Art + Lit Journal’, and more. She is also the drummer for the psych rock band Movie Club.  Mallory Smart is a Chicago-based writer and Editor-in-Chief of Maudlin House. Some people even call her ‘The Only Living Girl in Chicago’. Mallory is the host of the podcast Textual Healing, where she dives into the fusion of literature and music, and co-hosts That Horrorcast with Dmitry Samarov where they get lost in the weird world of horror films. Her latest book, ‘I Keep My Visions To Myself’, just came out from With an X Books.   Kirsti MacKenzie is the author of ‘Better to Beg’, as well as editor in chief of ‘Major 7th Magazine’. Her work has been published in ‘HAD’, ‘Rejection Letters’, ‘trampset’, ‘Autofocus’, ‘Maudlin House’, ‘Identity Theory’, and elsewhere.  Claire Hopple is the author of six books and the fiction editor at XRAY. Her stories have appeared in ‘Wigleaf’, ‘Vol. 1 Brooklyn’, ‘Forever Mag’, and others. She grew up in the woods of Pennsylvania and currently lives in Asheville, NC. Her next book, ‘Take it Personally’, is forthcoming from Stalking Horse Press in February 2025.  Each of these four talented authors brings a unique perspective to the conversation. From the creative sparks that ignite our own work to the cultural impacts of rock novels in general, we'll navigate the winding paths of character development and uncovering the challenges of breathing life into fictional musicians while honoring the essence of their real-life counterparts. We'll delve into the stigmas surrounding rock novels, dissecting perceptions and stereotypes to reveal the nuanced portrayals crafted by these talented authors. And of course, no discussion on writing fiction about musicians would be complete without reflecting on current trends and the evolution of the genre, including the explosive success of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s rock novel ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’.So, tune in and turn up the volume as Rock is Lit takes you on a journey through the pages of rock literature, where every word is a chord and every story a kickass concert.LINKS:Leave a rating and comment for Rock is Lit on Goodpods: https://goodpods.com/podcasts/rock-is-lit-212451Leave a rating and comment for Rock is Lit on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rock-is-lit/id1642987350 Rock is Lit Episode 26, Jessamyn Violet: https://www.christyalexanderhallberg.com/rockislitpodcast/jessamynvioletwithlinalecaroJessamyn Violet’s website: https://jessamynviolet.com/bioJessamyn Violet on Instagram and Twitter: @jessamynvioletMovie Club’s website: https://www.movieclubtheband.com/aboutKirsti MacKenzie on Twitter: @KeersteeMackMallory Smart’s website: https://mallorysmart.com/Mallory Smart on Twitter and Instagram: @malsmartClaire Hopple’s website: https://clairehopple.wordpress.com/bio/Claire Hopple on Twitter and Instagram: @clairehopple Christy Alexander Hallberg’s website: www.christyalexanderhallberg.comChristy Alexander Hallberg on Twitter, Instagram & YouTube: @ChristyHallberg Learn more about your ad choices.
