Jalon Johnson
Welcome to Not Your Ordinary Parts. This podcast is an outward expression of my deep internal work that I felt compelled to share with anyone willing to listen. What I want to be conveyed most is relatability; I am an everyday guy trying to share the things I've learned on my journey being a flawed human. There will be mistakes, I'll be nervous, I might fumble my words, but maybe, just maybe.... I'll help someone because I was willing to be vulnerable. If you find anything here helpful, please share it.

Claudia Goetzelmann is a yogi, a photographer, an end-of-life doula, a spiritual life coach, and a psychological counsellor whose work connects people, art, purpose, meaning, and healing. Having experience in a range of healing approaches, Claudia believes that much of what we struggle with in our adult lives, stems from patterns and belief systems that are formed in childhood, and she helps her clients identify what lies beneath those patterns. Claudia uses compassionate inquiry to reveal the critical nature of the body-mind relationship and gives her clients the opportunity to heal root causes. Claudia believes healing is not just optional – but that it is gifted to us daily by turning inwards with curiosity and she is here to assist on the journey back to wholeness.

Life can be hard at times and if you’re like me, you may tend to think that you can handle it all on your own. Maybe you’ve done such a good job of “managing for so long” having to do something different or talk to someone can feel uncomfortable. The idea of therapy, to me, felt like I had to admit that there was something wrong with me or that I’d be showing the world that I was broken or didn't have it all together… but when my health started to suffer, and I was anxious 24/7… I realized my body was trying to tell me something was wrong and I learned that there is no “good health” without mental health. Therapy was the answer for me, it helped me put down all of the heavy things that I was carrying that didn’t belong to me. While therapy can provide so much relief, finding a therapist can feel so daunting. BetterHelp, the sponsor of today’s video, has done so much to make finding a therapist and starting therapy so much easier! Dr. Lissa Rankin is a New York Times bestselling author, a mind-body medicine physician, founder of the Whole Health Medicine Institute, and the non-profit “Heal At Last.” Dr. Rankin is an encaustic artist who researches radical remission, trauma-informed medicine, and spiritual healing. Dr. Rankin’s TEDx talks have been viewed over 6 million times, she’s starred in two National Public Television specials, and she’s currently co-writing her eighth book, “YOU-Turn” about the link between narcissistic abuse and medical illness, focusing on how healthy boundaries and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy can help reverse diseases related to nervous system dysregulation caused by relational trauma. Throughout her lifelong journey as a healer Dr. Rankin has come to realize that all roads led to the same conclusion: People who are not responding to “traditional medicine” often have untreated, unhealed trauma, and treating that trauma can sometimes lead to seemingly miraculous radical remissions.

S4 Episode 4: No Bad Parts with Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS Founder
Dr. Richard Schwartz is a psychotherapist, bestselling author of the Book No Bad Parts, and the founder and developer of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy model. Dr. Schwartz began his career as a family therapist and an academic at the University of Illinois at Chicago and there he discovered that family therapy alone did not achieve full symptom relief and in asking patients why, he learned that they were plagued by what they called “parts.” These patients became his teachers as they described how their parts formed networks of inner relationships that resembled the families he had been working with. He also found that as they focused on and, thereby, separated from their parts, they would shift into a state characterized by qualities like curiosity, calm, confidence, and compassion. He called that inner essence the Self and was amazed to find it even in severely diagnosed and traumatized patients. From these explorations the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model was born in the early 1980s. IFS is now evidence-based and has become a widely used form of psychotherapy, particularly with trauma, and is quickly becoming the preferred modality to incorporate into Psychedelic Medicine research, therapy, and all stages of psychedelic sessions. It provides a non-pathologizing, optimistic, and
empowering perspective and a practical and effective set of techniques for working with individuals, couples, families, and more recently, corporations and classrooms.
