When Your Partner Has Nothing Left to Give
As a parent, I know how easy it is to get so caught up in the demands of work, home, and family that you have nothing left to give your partner. I've been there - feeling lonely, resentful, and disconnected from the person I love the most. But I've also learned that it doesn't have to be that way.
It takes effort to keep that love muscle strong, but it's so worth it. Make date nights a non-negotiable, even if it's just a simple activity together. And don't be afraid to plan a kid-free getaway - even 3 days can reignite that spark. Your relationship deserves that investment. You both do. It's not easy, but choosing each other, even when life is crazy, is what will keep your bond alive.
Ready to learn more? Listen to the full episode of the Thrive Like a Parent Podcast, where I dive deeper into this topic. Your relationship is worth the investment - let's work on it together!
XOXO,
Dr. B

When Mess Triggers Your Nervous System
EP:130 As a parent, I know how triggering mess and clutter can be. It's like my brain just snaps! But I've learned some tricks to manage it. First, I made my bedroom a peaceful sanctuary - no TV, just calm vibes. It's my Hail Mary when the rest of the house is a disaster zone. I grew up in a super tidy home, but now I've had to release that perfectionism. My house isn't Pinterest-perfect, but good enough is good enough.
I also get the kids involved - one new chore at a time so it doesn't overwhelm them (or me!). It's a work in progress, but creating that calm space and delegating responsibilities has been game-changing.
I used to get so anxious when my parents would visit, worried they'd judge my messy home. But I've learned to give myself grace - clutter doesn't define my worth as a parent.
If mess stresses you out, you're not alone. With a little self-compassion and some simple strategies, you can regain that sense of peace and control. Who's with me on this decluttering journey?
XOXO,
Dr. B

Navigating Grief as a Family
EP:129 This week, I decided to try something I've always wanted to do - bring my kids on the podcast. My older son Charlie joined me, and I'm so proud of how he opened up and shared his perspective. As a child who lost his dad to suicide, Charlie has a unique understanding of grief and resilience. He talked about the difficulty of seeing other kids with their dads, and how it felt to have male role models like my partner Carter step in to fill that void. It's been a journey for all of us, but I'm in awe of how Charlie has weathered the storm.
EP:129 He acknowledged the stress and sadness I experienced in that first year, but also recognized how I've been able to be more present for him and his brother as time has passed. Charlie's advice for other families going through loss is to keep believing - that there is always a solution around the corner, and that with trust and love, you can emerge as an even stronger team. I'm so grateful to Charlie for his honesty and vulnerability in sharing his story.
Listening to Charlie's perspective has deepened my own understanding of our family's experience. He's a remarkable young man, wise beyond his years. I hope that by opening up about our journey, we can provide comfort and inspiration to others facing unimaginable challenges. Our family may look different, but the love and support we share is what truly matters.

Navigating the Social Norms vs Natural Regulation
EP:128 Our kids' head-banging, rocking, and constant movement aren't just concerning behaviors - they're natural ways they're trying to regulate their nervous systems. As a mom of preemies, I know how much deep pressure and sensory input my babies needed to soothe and settle.
Things like pacifiers and thumb-sucking aren't just social norms, they're our kids' innate ways of calming their developing brains and bodies. Instead of stripping away these natural regulation methods, we need to observe the patterns, support their needs, and create space for their incredible ability to self-regulate. It's a journey, but so worth it for their long-term mental health.

Reclaiming Your Unfiltered and Authentic Self
EP:127 As I shared, feeling like you're "too much" is a core wound that affects so many of us. It leads us to create a performative reality, dampening our light and abandoning our true selves. Growing up, I learned to function according to societal norms, but I found my truest self could only shine when I was on stage, dancing. That freedom and authenticity was so liberating, yet so rare in my everyday life.
Even in my relationships, I often became a mirror for others' issues, rather than honoring my own worth. It wasn't until I became a solo parent during COVID that I had a breakthrough - I realized I had to be my own mirror, my own support. Understanding our nervous systems is key - it allows us to embrace our unique selves, rather than trying to fit a mold.
The more we live boldly and authentically, the more we'll inspire others. It's not easy to overcome the fear of being "too much," but the rewards are immense. I encourage you to take risks, say the things you're afraid to say, and let your light shine. Your value doesn't decrease based on others' inability to see your worth. Embrace all that you are - it's your greatest gift.
Xoxo,
Dr.B
