#1896 Interviewed By A Listener - Kelly Smith (PT1)

Kelly Smith is a long-time TYP listener and when I recently did a callout for some listener questions, Kelly volunteered to be the on-air asker of said questions. Rather than do that, I suggested she come up with some originals, slide into the virtual TYP studio and interview me on my own podcast. And she did. Not surprisingly I waffled, so this chat will go to air in three parts. In part one, here's what I was asked. (1) In the health/wellbeing/fitness space is there anyone or any single message you feel is absolutely on point at the moment? (2) Opposite of that - is there any messaging that you feel is completely inaccurate? (3) Do you feel like your style has changed recently and that you are more vulnerable in your approach? And if so, why? (4) What is the biggest lesson you have learnt in the past ten years? (5) What has been the most challenging part of your PhD? #1895 Dr. Cam 2.0 - Dr. Cam McDonald

Dr. Cam just got back from Bali where he did a deep dive on.. Dr. Cam. He went to the metaphoric room of mirrors for a long hard look, and he told me (us) it was one of the most powerful and amazing experiences of his life. I'm gonna say up front, I loved this chat. The Doc was incredibly raw, real and humble as he unpacked his recent life-changing experience. It was so nice talking with a bloke about feelings, vulnerability, authenticity, spirituality, learning, unlearning and having an inside-out personal revelation, revolution and transformation. #1894 More Q & A - Harps

In this episode I’m exploring more listener questions. I endeavoured to pick questions that were broadly relevant and as I always say, keep in mind that none of this personal advice or prescription, just me thinking out loud. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1893 What Makes Someone A Survivor? - Bobby Cappuccio

Of course, there's no single answer to that question - there are countless factors and variables. But with that in mind, Bobby and I had a chat about one of our favourite books (and one of the most influential psychological books of the 20th century): ‘Man's Search for Meaning’ by Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor, Dr. Viktor Frankl. I really enjoyed this conversation.theselfhelpantidote.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1892 The 'Old-Fashioned' Disease That's Rampant - David Gillespie

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood - 'once called the disease of Kings' because only rich people got it - and over the last decade or two, new cases have exploded across all social, cultural and financial demographics (so not just rich people). Historically, it was believed that gout was caused by eating too much red meat, seafood and dairy but of course, Gillespo is here to dispel that thinking and talk about the real culprit. Sugar, of course.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1891 What's The Worst That Can Happen? - Dr Jodi Richardson

"What's the worst thing that can happen" is a question l've asked myself repeatedly over the years and many times it's been the single strategy that got me to say yes to things I needed to, which were often also the things that scared the metaphoric sh*t out of me. Believing that I could survive the worst-case scenario is often what got me to take a first step. Apart from that question, Dr. Jodi and I also chat about the power of delaying gratification, intelligence vs. knowledge, people who have zero fear because they have a 'broken' amygdala, the lifelong influence of our favourite school teacher, parents passing down their dysfunctional behaviours and habits to their kids and lots more. #1890 How to Lose 10kg in 9 Hours - Tammy Van Wisse

That title is not even a joke. Tammy Van Wisse actually lost 10kgs in 9 hours (and 6 minutes), swimming forty kilometres in the extremely cold water of Loch Ness, while trying not to get eaten by a f**king monster. This was Tammy's second visit to TYP and this chat was a truly fascinating insight into weirdness and wonder of marathon swimming at the highest jevel, from a practical, psychological and physiological perspective. Learn about Tammy's encounters with Tiger and Brown snakes while swimming the 2,438 kilometres of the Murray River (WTF!), the time she almost got eaten by a great white shark (for real), the buoyancy difference between fresh and salt water, the process of 'getting fat' for endurance events and the science behind it, the time her brother John 'kind of' died swimming the English Channel with her (and the Aussie Olympic legend who dived in to save him) and lots more. #1889 Life, Football & Leadership - Andy Gowers

Andy Gowers is the President of the Hawthorn Football Club, former Director of Football, former player (140 games across three clubs) and member of Hawthorn's 1991 premiership team. Andy and I had fun chatting about all the football and non-football stuff that makes an AFL club 'work.’ Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1888 The Evolution of Religion - Dr. Bill Sullivan

Dr Bill is back for another chat and as Mary Harper would say "this was a goodie". Among other things, we talk about the evolution of religion (sounds contradictory doesn't it?), the beliefs we have that we didn't choose, being emotionally attached to a particular ideology, philosophy and/or theology, religion being the ultimate drug, the 'self' as an illusion, our fear of uncertainty, our need to 'be right', the relationship between beliefs and identity, unconscious programming and how groups (of all kinds) manipulate members to think, behave and live a certain way. Just the simple stuff (lol).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1887 All Or Nothing - Bobby Cappuccio

Bobby's back informing, educating and inspiring us towards bigger and better things. Or maybe, smaller and better things? Among other things, we talk about whether the 'all or nothing' approach is an effective or ineffective protocol on the 'thinking, doing and being better' journey. Personally, I'm all for some strategic 'nothing' days. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
