“I’m leaving.” That’s what my friend said to me some months ago as she surveyed the political and spiritual landscape here in the pacific northwest. “You have the gift of fighting. I do not.”  It was like a hammer to my heart. Why would anyone leave the fighting to someone else? Don’t we all have a part to play? Why are we running? The questions kept coming. My heart has been heavy lately over the number of people who I see fleeing instead of fighting. And while I realize that God calls us all to different things—I have come to question this exodus off the Battlefield. We're just like the ancient Israelites, aren’t we? Think about it: according to the Bible, why did nations fall? Because they turned away from God. That's what's happening in in the United States right now. It's certainly what's happening in Europe. Today we’ll look at 1 Corinthians 10 and discuss the huge issues of their time. For example, they were ah deep into sexual sin. It was inside the church also! Today, like in the days of the Apostle Paul, the church has either largely ignored or offered unsound biblical counsel. Though the Israelites had the covenant blessings and were miraculously delivered and sustained as we have been here in America,  most of them died in the wilderness because of disobedience and unbelief.  If we want God’s blessing, we better pay attention to His boundaries. In the ancient writings of Ezra, the scribe, we read: "Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the LORD and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel" (Ezra 7:10 NLT).In the New Testament, the theme continued. Paul’s words to the church in Colossae continue to resound in today’s skeptical culture: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ” (Col. 2:8).  So what’s a Christian to do?
