Prayer is not about getting better at prayer, it is about getting closer to God. So many Christians find praying hard due to distraction, busyness, or being at a loss for words. We make it so much harder than it needs to be. Ephesisans 6:18 shows us that to talk with God, we should pray everywhere, for everything, and everyone. Pride is a sneaky sin. It sneaks into our lives and faith in a way that other sins don't and it sets us up against everyone else. We, as Christians, need to learn to let go of pride and realize that we are a small part of a much bigger narrative. If we focus on ourselves, we open up the doorway to all the places in life we don't want to end up. What do you do when you find yourself in a period of waiting? Do you simply sit idly and resign yourself to being on the sidelines, waiting for events to unfold? Or do you choose to take courageous, faith-filled actions and persistently seek change?There are times when our waiting should resemble less of resignation and inactivity, and more closely align with the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18). This parable provides us with a model of 'holy impatience,' as the widow fervently pleads with a judge to rectify an unjust situation. With over two-thirds of adults admitting to experiencing loneliness, it's understandable that isolation is considered normal. BUT, the Gospel teaches us in Acts 2 that having community is essential for your spiritual life and for the sake of the world.The world often judges us by the way that we treat and interact with those around us. God values the lost so much that every time someone repents, surrenders, or trusts in Him, the angels in the Heavens rejoice! We should too! God did not send down His only son to 'seek and destroy'. No, He sent His son to 'seek and save.'How do we 'seek and save' like Jesus? In order to find the lost, we need to go where the darkness is and have the courage to not stay in the light. We need to seek the lost with the same urgency and intensity that God does. We learn in a parable in Luke 13 that even when a fig tree fails to produce good fruit, the gardener does not want to cut it down. Instead, he will dig around it, turn over the soil, add fertilizer, and prune it. Just like the gardener, Jesus will do the same for us. He will intercede for us when we are not producing fruit and say, 'Don't cut this one down just yet...'Through his patience and grace, Jesus will help us bear fruit. Do we own our stuff? Or do we let our stuff own us? In a world obsessed with accumulating material things, are you truly any happier with the more things that you have?The New Testament uses the word "blessed" 112 times. NOT ONCE is it connected to material wealth. We often attempt to fill the void in our hearts with material things, hoping they'll bring lasting joy. But, as time passes and we continually try to gain more and more to fill that void, we are drawn away from what truly matters... Seeking his kingdom and his righteousness."Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33When you seek his kingdom instead of your own, you'll see how Jesus has left us an inheritance greater than all the riches in the world; he gave us his very life, salvation, and an eternity with him.
