How to Spot a False Teacher

Wherever you have something true, you almost always have something counterfeit nearby. This also applies to biblical teachings. But how do we discern between true gospel teaching and false teaching? In 2 Peter, we are given a guide for recognizing and avoiding false teachers and their teachings. What is the Bible?

Many of us believe the Bible, but if we were pressed to explain WHY we believe the Bible, things would get awkward quickly. We can easily go through life not really convinced that the Bible is trustworthy, but just hoping that it is. To understand the validity of the Bible, we have to answer the questions of how the Bible came to be, how it came to us, and how it came together. Understanding this can grow our trust that the Bible is truly the word of God miraculously preserved through generations. ___________________________________________________To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Make Every Effort

Going to church and learning what the Bible says is important - but it isn't the same as actively living out the truth that we believe. The Bible teaches that the key to growing in godliness is not about knowing more, but about excersizing our faith by being obedient (2 Peter 1:3-11). If you have the desire to grow your faith and deepen your relationship with God, this sermon from 2nd Peter is for you. Being With God

It’s easy to fall into a rhythm of prayer and to just “go through the motions,” but because we never mature past the need for God, we need to get out of the habits we form and dive into what it means to simply be with God in prayer. To be with God, we need to learn how to reorient ourselves, relinquish control, rest, and then respond to Him. This will allow us to enter into a dimension of prayer that goes beyond words, listening, or speaking. If we want to live transformed lives, lives of mission, purpose, and calling — lives of bringing light to dark places, sharing the good news of the Gospel — that’s going to take a lifetime of prayer, of being with God day-in and day-out.______________________________________ To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Listening to God

Did you know we hear 20,000 - 30,000 words per day? And we see/hear 4,000 to 10,000 advertisements per day. That doesn't even include the voices of fear, shame, regret and guilt that we hear in our mind. Each of these voices act as thieves and robbers keeping us from actually listening to God.____To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Talking with God

Prayer is not about getting better at prayer, it is about getting closer to God. So many Christians find praying hard due to distraction, busyness, or being at a loss for words. We make it so much harder than it needs to be. Ephesisans 6:18 shows us that to talk with God, we should pray everywhere, for everything, and everyone. Repetition makes us better at every task, so why wouldn't it help in our prayer life as well?"The only rule of prayer is to show up and keep showing up." - Ronald Rolheiser_____________________________________To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrCSupport the show

Talking to God

When was the last time you felt connected to God through prayer? Are you satisfied by your prayer life? It is easy to feel guilty when we don't pray, and unsatisfied when we do. Jesus gives his disciples a framework of how to pray in Luke 11, and this model for prayer can be helpful to us when we don’t know how to approach God. Jesus’ prayer demonstrates that it is not just about asking God for things, but aligning our hearts with His and becoming more like Him._______________________To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Pride vs. Humility

Pride is a sneaky sin. It sneaks into our lives and faith in a way that other sins don't and it sets us up against everyone else. We, as Christians, need to learn to let go of pride and realize that we are a small part of a much bigger narrative. If we focus on ourselves, we open up the doorway to all the places in life we don't want to end up. Instead, we need to learn how to approach life like the tax collector in Luke 18, and take the path of humility. ---------------------------------To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Stop Waiting Patiently

What do you do when you find yourself in a period of waiting? Do you simply sit idly and resign yourself to being on the sidelines, waiting for events to unfold? Or do you choose to take courageous, faith-filled actions and persistently seek change? There are times when our waiting should resemble less of resignation and inactivity, and more closely align with the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18). This parable provides us with a model of 'holy impatience,' as the widow fervently pleads with a judge to rectify an unjust situation. Instead of giving up, we are called to take bold, specific, and unwavering actions through persistent prayers.________________To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show

Living Gospel Community

With over two-thirds of adults admitting to experiencing loneliness, it's understandable that isolation is considered normal. BUT, the Gospel teaches us in Acts 2 that having community is essential for your spiritual life and for the sake of the world. The world often judges us by the way that we treat and interact with those around us. So, ask yourself this, "What would people think when they see how I am involved in the community around me?  Am I living out what true gospel community looks like?" ______________________________________________To support this ministry and help us continue our God given mission, click here: http://bit.ly/2NZkdrC Support the show
