Episode 105: “Can I Trust Again?” Ft Brad

This week on Hell Has an Exit we kick off the new year with a special guest by the name of Brad. On this Episode Brad and Bryan get deep into Brads life, what his childhood was like, his days in active addiction, recovery, relapse, the 12-steps, and some of Brad’s deepest Traumas.  Brad was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. His father was a Homicide detective who was completely consumed by his career and his mother did her best to raise 3 boys in a low-income Baltimore neighborhood. Brad often found himself on his own, especially after one of his brothers was diagnosed with cancer. When he was only about 9 years old, he was offered weed laced with PCP, one time getting high was al it took for Brad. After that moment, he knew he wanted to be high all the time. Up until he was 20 years old, Brad was fully immersed in the lifestyle. He was selling pills to afford his habit as it intensified to other harder drugs like crack.  When Brad was in his early 20’s he went to rehab and began working a program soon after. He was able to accumulate 3 years clean. For years he battled with the idea that maybe he could just drink alcohol. All it took was one night of drinking for Brad to be right back where he was before.  Today Brad shares about the transformation in his life that took place getting clean a second time. This time around, he has been able to open up about traumatic experience like losing his younger brother and the childhood sexual abuse that he kept buried deep inside his entire life.  Don’t miss this inspiring episode on how recovery can truly change your life if you show up and do the work.🎬Watch Video Episode on Youtube: https://youtu.be/05_mdtBlbs0🔗Check us out at: https://hellhasanexitpod.com/Follow on Instagram & Twitter☑Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellhasanexit/?hl=en☑Twitter: https://twitter.com/HellHasAnExit☑Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellhasanexit/☑TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hellhasanexit❤‍🩹Get the support you need from our trusted addiction treatment provider: https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/?data_traffic=POD-EP-DES-URP (https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/)👉🏻Call Now: (877)-706-0625🆘Support is Available 24/ Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 104: "Introverted Life of the Party" ft. Marvin

Today on Hell Has an Exit, Bryan invites a very special guest by the name of Marvin.  Marvin was one of 9 children born and raised in South Carolina. Ever since he was a young boy his family considered him to be “different”. Although his father didn’t want him to be named Marvin, (after the great singer Marvin Gaye) Marvin loved his name and wanted to grow up to be a model, singer and dancer.  For most of his life, he learned to deal with trauma and grief by sweeping It under the rug. Things like the death of his father which was caused by drug and alcohol abuse, the death of his 2 brothers, and being sexually molested by a family member.  Despite Marvin’s upbringing and traumatic experiences, he always did his best to put one foot in front of the other. He had graduated college and always held down a job. For a long time, Marvin felt different in his sexuality. He wanted to belong and feel accepted as a gay man. When he was 34 years old, he tried a little weed, and found a group of people who made him feel a “part of”. Before he knew it - he was hooked on cocaine, crystal meth and a lifestyle he never imagined for himself.  Eventually, Marvin realized what he was dealing with was something he was not going to be able to overcome alone. He confessed everything to his mother and admitted that he needed help. After a successful stay at a treatment facility, Marvin was able to get his life back on track by integrating himself in the program and attending 12-step meetings. He vowed to work the steps with his sponsor and became fully immersed in his recovery. Today, Marvin has almost 4 years clean, has been able to open up about his sexuality with his family and is able to live his life as his authentic self.  Listen to this inspiring story with special guests, Marvin on Hell Has an Exit🎬Watch Video Episode on Youtube: https://youtu.be/G_jRxecd9NI🔗Check us out at: https://hellhasanexitpod.com/Follow on Instagram & Twitter☑Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellhasanexit/?hl=en☑Twitter: https://twitter.com/HellHasAnExit☑Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellhasanexit/☑TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hellhasanexit❤‍🩹Get the support you need from our trusted addiction treatment provider: https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/?data_traffic=POD-EP-DES-URP (https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/)👉🏻Call Now: (877)-706-0625🆘Support is Available 24/ Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 103: “Why’d you make me smell the belt?”

Welcome to episode 103 of Hell Has an Exit. On this Episode Bryan invites Dr. Barry who he’s known since his earliest days in recovery. Dr. Barry is what we call a unicorn in South Florida, being born and raised in Broward County. In this episode the two go on to talk about their earliest signs of addiction even before drugs were ever in the picture. Dr. Barry shares instances where he had this natural entrepreneurial instinct to buy a bag of lollipops at 11 yrs. old and flip them for a profit at school like his college days - where he would buy 500 pills and flip them to have some extra for his personal use.  Bryan and Dr. Barry share a similar story in that they didn’t necessarily come from terrible families or upbringings like you often hear from others in the rooms of NA. While everyone’s story is different - the importance of relating to one another, especially for Bryan, was extremely helpful in his early recovery. They both got introduced to the world of addiction through the want and need to fit in, something that weed offered for them immediately. It offered them the ability to fit in, to have something others wanted, and to be the one to be able to supply it. A big part of their addiction was the lifestyle that came with it. Dr. Barry went on to college at the University of Florida where his addiction got so bad that 19 of his friends who he used drugs with at the time staged a 4-hour intervention to push him to get help. Barry got clean one year later at 20 years old.  Dr. Barry went on to get a degree in psychology and has dedicated most of his like to recovery in his career and in his personal life with over 26 years clean. Episode 101 - “You are not crazy, you’re an addict” ft. Calvin S.

Today on Hell Has an Exit Bryan Invites a very special guest by the name of Calvin S.  Calvin was born in South Carolina and adopted at the age of 2 after his mother was murdered by a serial killer. He lived his life with this pain deeply rooted in his soul and as he put it - he was “going through life with a victim mentality.” For the most part, Calvin was always a functional addict. He had a job, a family and was caught up in a cycle of succeeding a little and then messing it all up. It wasn’t until Calvin was around 31 years old that addiction clung on and sunk its sharp fangs deeply into every part of his life.  While Calvin was using, his 9-year-old daughter wrote him a letter letting him know how he made her feel after he didn’t show up for Christmas. At first the letter pushed him further into the darkness but in the end when he had absolutely nothing left but this letter in his wallet, Calvin hung on to every word for dear life. It was that letter that helped him get clean.  Calvin's story is truly one of commitment and the real-life example of how a 12-step program can save and change lives. Calvin has 21 years of sobriety. Today he is married and happily gives himself to the program. Through his recovery he has taken over 20 sponsee’s through the 12 steps, has rekindled his relationship with his children, and together with his wife fosters children who need love and care until their families are able to take them back. Don’t miss this uplifting and inspirational episode of Hell Has an Exit with a true champion of the 12-step program Calvin S.🎬Watch Video Episode on Youtube: https://youtu.be/mJLscDzn67w🔗Check us out at: https://hellhasanexitpod.com/Follow on Instagram & Twitter☑Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellhasanexit/?hl=en☑Twitter: https://twitter.com/HellHasAnExit☑Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellhasanexit/☑TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hellhasanexit❤‍🩹Get the support you need from our trusted addiction treatment provider: https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/?data_traffic=POD-EP-DES-URP (https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/)👉🏻Call Now: (877)-706-0625🆘Support is Available 24/ Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 100: “Hope After Dope“ Tony V.

Today on Hell Has an Exit Bryan Invites special Guest Tony V. To share his story on episode 100! Tony was what you would call a late bloomer in addiction, his addiction kicked off with “Percocet’s” and “Oxy’s” in his early 30’s. Tony was a successful user in that he rarely ever had to deal with being dope sick and going without. He made tons of money bartending & doing real estate and had a ring of about 6-8 old ladies that he would do chores for in exchange for an endless supply of pills.  On the outside, Tony’s life seemed perfect but as his addiction intensified it became harder to keep up appearances. It wasn’t long before things started to crumble and within just a matter of months he lost his family, his home & any self-worth he had left. For most people this would have been rock bottom, for Tony it was the beginning of an even deeper path of self destruction now that he didn’t have to worry about anything else besides himself and using.  Today, Tony is over 6 years clean and maintains his recovery by putting in the work through a 12-step program. Don’t miss this incredible story of a man who got clean at 43 and has a world of possibilities ahead of him through surrendering and finding recovery.🎬Watch Video Episode on Youtube: https://youtu.be/oBsF48gNo30🔗Check us out at: https://hellhasanexitpod.com/Follow on Instagram & Twitter☑Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellhasanexit/?hl=en☑Twitter: https://twitter.com/HellHasAnExit☑Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellhasanexit/☑TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hellhasanexit❤‍🩹Get the support you need from our trusted addiction treatment provider: https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/?data_traffic=POD-EP-DES-URP (https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/)👉🏻Call Now: (877)-706-0625🆘Support is Available 24/ Learn more about your ad choices. Today on Hell Has an Exit Bryan Invites special Guest Darryl M. Darryl was born in a tough neighborhood on the northside of Philly, his family was no stranger to the disease of addiction, drug dealing, and street life. Both his dad and stepmom were in recovery before Darryl ever even touched a drug, his grandmother ran a trap house, and Darryl would later become heavily involved in dealing and using.  At 15 years old, Darryl was deep in the game, had just had his first kid and had a goal of making 1 million tax free dollars from dealing. At 19 years old, Darryl was shot 5 times at a point-blank range but that didn’t stop him from the hustle. He was consistently on pills after getting shot and began using cocaine more and more. Ep 98: “An Innocent Man on Death Row, AGAIN” ft. Anthony Apanovitch

Today on Hell Has an Exit, we have decided to re-release “An Innocent Man on Death Row, Again” ft. Anthony Apanovitch in an attempt to raise as much awareness as possible to Anthony’s case. Every single day that goes by is another day added to the 36 years Anthony has already spent behind bars for a crime he did not commit.  On this Episode - Host Bryan Alzate gets exclusive access to interview Anthony inside the Chillicothe Correctional Institute which holds most of Ohio’s death row inmates.  You will hear from Anthony’s Attorney - Dale Baich, Ohio State Representative - Jean Schmidt, Director of Communications for Ohioans to Stop Executions - Allison Cohen, and Anthony Apanovitch himself. This is the story of Anthony Apanovitch, a man who stands on death row after being wrongfully convicted for the rape and murder of Mary Ann Flynn. After spending 32 years on Death Row, DNA evidence exonerated Tony and he was released as a free man.  For two years Anthony got to experience the freedom he deserved, he got married to his longtime girlfriend, and became a loving husband and grandfather. For the first time in his life, he felt vindicated.  After eighteen months of freedom with his family, a legal technicality regarding the way that the DNA evidence that freed him was processed resulted in his exoneration being overturned. Tony was then stolen from his family when the U.S. Marshall's came to his house and took him back to death row, where he tragically stands today. Please help spread the word on Anthony’s case so that this man can be granted justice once and for all.  You can sign the petition for Tony here: https://www.change.org/p/ohio-state-legislature-justice-for-tony-786fd6f1-e3b4-4ddd-a5b9-288492814a0b/sign (https://www.change.org/p/ohio-state-legislature-justice-for-tony-786fd6f1-e3b4-4ddd-a5b9-288492814a0b/sign) You can write to the Ohio Parole Board here: (a letter has already been pre-written, but you can choose to write your own) https://actionnetwork.org/letters/justice-for-apanovitch?source=direct_link& (https://actionnetwork.org/letters/justice-for-apanovitch?source=direct_link&) For more info please visit: https://www.justice4apanovitch.com (https://www.justice4apanovitch.com/)Support Our Sponsors:Go to betterhelp.com/EXIT for 10% off your first month of therapyPrime Members, listen to the Amazon Music exclusive podcast, MRBALLEN PODCAST: STRANGE, DARK & MYSTERIOUS STORIES, in the Amazon Music App.🎬Watch Video Episode on Youtube: https://youtu.be/_xsdK5ew5rw🔗Check us out at: https://hellhasanexitpod.com/Follow on Instagram & Twitter☑Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellhasanexit/?hl=en☑Twitter: https://twitter.com/HellHasAnExit☑Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellhasanexit/☑TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hellhasanexit❤‍🩹Get the support you need from our trusted addiction treatment provider: https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/?data_traffic=POD-EP-DES-URP (https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/)👉🏻Call Now: (877)-706-0625🆘Support is Available 24/ Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome back to Episode 97 of Hell Has an Exit. On this Episode Bryan invites close friend, Kevin Alter on the show for the second time. Many of you might have already heard of Kevin from his viral FB page “The Addicts Diary” which he’s grown to almost a million followers. What we learn is that getting clean is never a process written in black in white and even though he had no intentions, he got clean on that last rehab visit.
