Through friends and the support of the recovery community, she was able to get Santi into the rooms of a 12-step program. Though Santi struggled at first and nearly lost his life to addiction, he eventually found his way to a halfway house and the 12-steps, where he began to rebuild his life.It was there that he met Mario, and the two men quickly became friends, encouraging each other to be truthful and stay committed to their recovery. Crystal K's story is one of resilience, survival, and redemption. Born and raised in the beautiful mountainous regions of Georgia and North Carolina. Her mother was just 21 when she was born, and her father was out of the picture even before her birth. Nevertheless, Crystal's mother found a good man who became her stepfather, and they lived happily on a large property for several years.Crystal was homeschooled and spent much of her childhood outdoors, exploring the stunning natural surroundings. However, her idyllic life was disrupted when her mother and stepfather broke up, and she was taken to Los Angeles to pursue a career in show business. This was where the real challenges began.In Los Angeles, Crystal faced a barrage of obstacles, including unwanted advances from men and being left with strangers while her mother left her to figure things out on her own. Despite these difficulties, Crystal's determination and resilience kept her going. However, Crystal's life took a turn for the worse when her boyfriend was arrested and sent to prison, leaving her to raise their newborn daughter alone. She turned to painkillers after she her c-section, making it even more difficult for her to be a good mother.Crystal's addiction spiraled out of control, and she eventually turned to heroin. But despite her struggles, Crystal never gave up. She hit rock bottom many times and realized that she needed help. She entered multiple rehabs and eventually something stuck. Today, Crystal is a true inspiration. She is pursuing her dream of becoming a marine biologist and is raising her daughter with love and care. "Jake the Snake" Roberts was a wrestling legend, famous for his trademark bag of snakes and intimidating on-screen persona. But behind the glitz and glamour of his in-ring performances lay a dark and troubled reality.Jake's addiction was a result of a traumatic childhood. His father was not only physically abusive, but he also sexually abused Jake's sister and had a history of pedophilia that included Jake's mother, who was only 13 years old when she gave birth to him. In a desperate attempt to numb his pain, Jake turned to drugs and alcohol, leading him down a path of self-destruction.Despite being a star of the 1980s wrestling scene, Jake's addiction was spiraling out of control. He would show up to matches drunk or high and even disappear for days at a time. Her mother was addicted to drugs during pregnancy, causing Alexis to be born addicted to two substances. Despite the abuse, Alexis held out hope that her mother would one day find her, but instead, her aunt brought her back to Florida. In an effort to escape, she married young and had two sons, but her addiction only worsened. He and Bryan discuss Bill's early life, his experience on "Intervention," and what life is like today. Born in one of the toughest and poorest neighborhoods of Kensington, Philadelphia - Bill J's childhood was filled with hardship and trauma. Raised by an addicted father and a drug and alcohol-abusing mother, Bill was introduced to the street life at a young age and soon became addicted to drugs and alcohol himself. He spent much of his youth and early adulthood in and out of jail, and even discovered his father dead from an overdose. It was a chance encounter with a woman at his parole officer's meeting that would lead to a tumultuous Bonnie and Clyde-style relationship. They used drugs, committed crimes, and spiraled deeper into addiction. Until one day, they were both arrested and offered a glimmer of hope - a chance to turn their lives around through the TV show “Intervention”. Through a painstaking process, Bill finally threw himself into his recovery, determined to overcome his demons and start anew. And despite the many challenges he faced, with the help of a supportive sponsor, he persevered. Today, Bill is a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of determination and resilience. He is clean, dedicated to his recovery program, and works in the field of addiction recovery to help others find their way out of the darkness. Episode 106: "By Any Means Necessary" ft. Marco
Welcome back to Hell Has an Exit Episode 106! Today Bryan invites special guest Marco to share his story which involves using for 19 years, working in the kitchens of highly renown chefs, his involvement in the program, and using for 13 years without his wife knowing. Marco grew up in Las Vegas spending most of his childhood and youth playing baseball. He was heavily dedicated and passionate about the sport which kept him away from trouble for a long time. One childhood memory that Marco recalls was his father, who passed away from active addiction, beating him senseless without reason. It’s something that stuck with him in the years to follow when his own using got so bad. He remembered thinking that he was on his way to becoming just like his father. Something he always promised himself he would never become. When Marco gave up baseball's life quickly began to change. He started hanging out with people who were smoking weed and introducing him to heavier drugs. On one occasion someone offered him speed. When he tried it, he immediately got sick and nothing much came of it. The next day he tried it again, and from that moment on he was hooked. Marco's new passion and profession as an adult was as a Chef. He went from working in kitchens in NYC for notable chefs to opening his own place in Brooklyn with his wife. During this time, he used cocaine to function and get through every single day. For 13 years, his wife had no idea. She came from a world that never exposed her to drug use or addiction. When Marco hit bottom, he was desperate. He found himself completely lost and felt like the only way out would be to end his life. That was the plan. Thankfully, God had other plans. Through his family support, rehab, and the 12 steps, Marco was able to find his way out of Hell. Today Marco has his life back, works a strong program, works as a private chef, and just started his own recovery podcast called BAMN - By Any Means Necessary.
