EP 44 - Just Because I Smoked Crack And Committed Armed Robberies Don’t Make Me a Bad Person feat. Rene C.
Rene “C” was born to alcoholic parents. In her own words she felt she never had a chance to escape a life of addiction. Growing up her parents were in and out of rehab facilities. Sometimes they would put her in the garage and bring her food at 3 AM instead of taking good care of their small child. By the time she was five or six she was already being sexually molested by a family member that lived at the house. Her parents were never aware of it. The sexual abuse turned into pain and suffering. All through her young years and into middle school Rene became very violent fighting and lashing out at every turn even starting to do self mutilation. By the time she was 13 after several stints in juvenile detention, she ran away from home , leaving her house to join a "boyfriend". This young boy would lord it over her and continue to abuse her, beating her constantly and dragging her around like trash. She stayed with him for 10 years. They enacted crimes together breaking and entering and violent robberies - continuing on together in crime and violence until she was arrested for beating a girl have to death. After serving time in jail she realized she had to get away from that relationship… but he pursued her and threatened her life… He beat her with a golf club and almost killed her and finally he was taken to prison. This is around the time that Rene began to use drugs. With her background she didn’t just use the drugs slowly - no - she went instantly into heavy drug use. After smoking crack only one time she turned to shooting it in her vein. This is one of the deadliest ways to use crack cocaine. Rene is a true story of the 12 step program saving a life. She's now a mother with a healthy child and she’s living one day at a time. Listen to this incredible story of resurrection from death, On the verge of suicide and self destruction. EP 39 - Recovering from Religion Ft. Danny Prada
On todays episode of Hell Has an Exit, Bryan invites long-time friend and Minister Danny Prada to share how his spiritual journey began and how it came to be what it is today.Growing up a conservative Christian Danny encountered a point in his life where he began to face serious doubts about religion after coming in contact with some difficult elements in his life. After unknowingly joining a cult, he realized that almost all religion is competing. After years of study and research he started a Bible study based on the Christian Bible. This soon evolved into a more open and understanding theology that invited all religions and all beliefs into the church. This new theology brought some serious anger from the Christian community that Danny had grown up in. He was basically ostracized and soon found himself alone. Danny had trained to be a servant of the people with more than five years on the front lines of the most desperate cases as a chaplain at the rescue mission. He was committed to giving his life and service of others. His Bible study grew into the Heartway Church and his ministry group. After studying the mystics and the great teachings of all religions, Danny realized he had to find a way to open up his church to the LGBTQ community and continued his evolution as a pastor in modern times. Today he runs a passionate group of people who seek to evolve their humanity and find real spiritual truth and peace through the trials and tribulations of life. EP 36: Hell Has an Entrance: PART 3 ft. Bryan Alzate
In Part 3 of 4 — of the Bryan Alzate Story, “Hell Has an Entrance”, we join Bryan on his road to recovery, at the very beginning of his sobriety and his entrance into the 12 step program. After completing his stay at Detox, Bryan get’s picked by his parents. The approach his dad took was something Bryan really struggled with. As its common - people who just don’t know any different, blame the drugs as being the sole reason for all of the addict’s problems. As soon as Bryan gets in the car, his dad made it very clear that this was his last chance. That he wouldn’t be putting up with his shit any more and that he needed to man up and get his life together. He needed to cut the crap, finish school, go to college, and get a job. As Bryan sat quietly in the back seat, his dad continued on. He felt it was an important parenting moment - he had to take this opportunity to really let Bryan know that this was it. That he had to just “get over” the drugs and grow up. He had no clue that while he yelled and screamed, his son was in the back seat contemplating suicide. They were living in two completely different worlds.Thankfully, Bryan had learned about meetings at detox. Something clicked and he realized that maybe it would be a good idea to give it a shot. At 17 years old, Bryan was ready to try and get clean. He figured he had two options - try anything, or end it all. What happens next is an odyssey into recovery. Bryan talks about the key relationships he formed & the magic and spiritual power of the 12 step program. He dives deep into his first year clean and opens up in detail about the good, the bad and the ugly. With the help and support of countless strangers, the Mad Russian, his amazing high-school teacher Mrs. Dean, and a commitment to recovery, Bryan begins to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
