64: 5 Keys to a Peaceful December

In this Podcast episode Havilah shares some thoughts on how to navigate your December. The more you have going on, the more critical it is to have a strategy. There is a downside of December and the feelings it provides. A lot of us have expectations that come with Christmas-time, but the reality is completely different. Havilah gives you 5 keys to a peaceful December Admit you have expectations. If you do not admit it, you will feel more and more disappointed when reality hits you. This is called maturity. What are you expecting and what are your limitations? What is most important to you? What feeling do you want to have during this season? Sometimes these are two different things. Schedule things to facilitate your feelings. What can you do to connect with your people, God and yourself? Set expectations for others. You need to get in a place of throwing things, not always catching. People have expectations, but if you know you can’t do it all, you have to say no. Consider January. You cannot ignore January in December because it will slap you in the face when it comes. But if you consider it now, you will love it when it comes. Think about the feeling you want when the new year kicks in. Set it up right now, so you are not left with surprises and disappointment. We hope this helps you today and that your December will be peaceful.

63: Secrets to Mothering Boys

* This episode was recorded during a Facebook Live broadcast. In this podcast, Havilah and her husband Ben discuss the topics of marriage and raising boys. They talk about the different dynamics of men and women and the learning process of not trying to change each other or expect them to act like the opposite sex but to validate and value how God designed both men and women to function differently. They share some personal experiences from their own lives about communication, emotions and expectations of raising boys and how boys operate and the shared responsibility of raising boys into men. *If you want to learn more about raising boys in to healthy, Godly men you can preview and sign up for the Moms of Men E-course: https://truthtotable.com/moms-of-men/

62: Work With Me

Today on the podcast I talk about the hard work that comes with change. It’s fall and the right season for change, shift and new beginnings. I am still in the thick of transition as you might know if you have been following this podcast. In this episode I talk about how we often wish that what God asks us to do is magically easy and doesn’t require any effort. But the truth is, sometimes doing life is just hard and not fun. With change comes hard work, adjustment and a different way of thinking, a process. The acknowledgment of it being hard does not make us weak but normal and human. It’s not a definition of our purpose but a reality. I love Psalm 90:17 in the Passion Translation, it says “O Lord, our God, let your sweet beauty rest upon us and give us favor. Come work with us, and then our works will endure. And give us success in all we do!” We want favor not just our own effort. We want to come and have God’s sweet beauty resting upon us. I know this is going to be work and it’s not going to be an easy road. So my prayer has been “God, come work with me. Let my work endure with you. I need favor.” So today, wherever you are, the truth is, if you feel like it’s work, sometimes that’s exactly what it is. The fact that it’s difficult is not a sign that you’re going in the wrong direction but that you are human, moving and that life is going to ebb and flow. God is with you, and he will lead you. You are allowed to endure. The harvest is so much sweeter when you’ve had sweat running down your face. I hope this encourages you today! 59: The Secret to Pleasing God

Today on the podcast Havilah is coming to you from Brazil! We’re staying on the topic of transition as many of you have been responding to these podcasts saying that they have helped you through your transition. Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.” Without faith, it is impossible to please God. It is impossible to please God by living a life worthy of the calling you have received (Ephesians 4:1) without living in faith. Living with the assurance of the things we have not yet seen is truly pleasing to God. You know that this is what you’re supposed to do, and you’ve gone far enough that you can’t go back but if we don’t have the right balance, the right effort and the right momentum we won’t make it, we will fall over. Many of us are right in the middle. We’re not going back; we’re not in the full calling and momentum of what the next season holds but being in that spot is FAITH. Faith is that space of what we once knew and what we know to be true. It feels like pausing, waiting and not knowing where we’re heading. That’s normal, so don’t change your motivation and direction. Go forward! Faith is not a feeling; it is an assurance. Without the assurance that the next season is coming, you cannot please God. The more we live in faith, the more hope we will have for the future. If you’re in transition today, know that faith is that weird pause, that in between. But don’t let your brain wander, don’t let your emotions dominate because you can’t enjoy the journey that way. Set your mind on God and let the Word of God surround you. You will get there, just keep going forward.

58: Keeping the Transition Clean

Today on the podcast, Havilah and Ben continue talking about transitions. You can’t force transition, and if you make something happen while depending more on your strength than on Gods, you will always wonder if you made it happen or if God did. He cannot lead us if we are not walking. Sometimes it’s trying to see if the door will open and we can walk through it rather than waiting around. God will be gracious enough to shut the door if it’s not the right way. Our motives must be open to hearing what God is saying. We shouldn’t try and make things happen ourselves, but we also shouldn’t be fearful of making a mess. Life comes in assignments. We might have big dreams or are in pursuit of figuring that dream out but whatever we are doing right now is our assignment. It’s not our identity, and we don’t become more valuable by entering into the next season. Being obedient to our next assignments helps us connect the things we don’t understand. Try to keep the process clean, keep the transition clean. And what this means is starting AND finishing well. How you left a season can follow you more than the storyline of you actually BEING IN the season. Whatever season you are in, think about how you can defuse any fire storm that could be following you. Instead of creating negative story lines, honor the season when leaving it as much as when you’re in it.

57: The Why Behind the What

In this podcast, I share about some big changes happening in our lives. About a year ago, God began to speak to me while my life was in full-throttle. My husband and I had four boys and were running two organizations. I was writing, traveling, and speaking, and I had a whole team of people helping me make it all happen. The Holy Spirit challenged me to back things down a little and add space in my life. He challenged me to get back to the original “yes” I felt in my heart when I first signed up to serve Him. I can’t wait to share more on this topic with you in future podcasts or blog posts. Transition is all a part of God’s master plan to move you forward and help you walk in your true calling.

56: Normals of Transition

Today Havilah talks about transition, about knowing when it’s time for change. Some people like to jump the gun when it comes to transition and other people sit in transition until someone kicks them out the door. This podcast will give you some ideas of when to know it’s time for transition. It’s interesting because the moment one jumps into transition questions rise up about whether it was a mistake and this is completely normal. You can be doing all the right things and be spiritually growing in the Lord, but then suddenly you can feel fear. It’s important to know not to buy into fear. The Bible says that it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6) which means it is impossible to live a life of pleasing God without living in an extra reality of the natural. Just because you feel fear doesn’t mean you are going in the wrong direction. Fear can mean you are going in the right direction. If you want to follow the calling and purpose that’s on your life, you’re going to have to figure out a strategy for fear. That doesn’t necessarily mean trying to get away from fear but living through fear and not letting it dominate any decisions. Sometimes the struggle isn’t that we don’t want to do it but that we don’t want it to cost us. But you are not able to go where you are called to go unless you are willing to pay the price. Here are four things people experience during transition: Feeling fear, which is normal. We must walk through it! Having to say “No” in order to say “Yes”. That’s the trade; the trade-off is where it happens. Not wanting to go through with it. Stay in the process! Walking from day to day. When in transition giving yourself permission to be in the day to day is so important. Don’t hang out waiting for God to make the decisions for you; God is not going to give you a prophetic word if it’s going to keep you powerless. Give something God can bless! He can’t bless transition if you’re not going to make it!

55: Give It Time

In this episode, I talk about a pattern I use in my life consistently. It’s for those seasons when I’m trying to hear from God for something. I don't know about you, but there are seasons where I'm just waiting on God to answer me. There are things in life that you have to let happen. Often we have to give things time to work themselves out. Sometimes things come through time. I want to encourage you with Psalms 25:5: “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; For you, I wait all the day long.” I love that thought that He is leading us into truth, He’s teaching us, He’s the God who will save us, but sometimes we will have to wait all the day long! God wants you to realize that this is part of the process and we can’t rush the hand and the voice of God; we can only be available for it when it comes. So whatever season you are in, have you given it some time? Have you sat with it? Are you continuing with your daily life? And are you available when God wants to give it to you? For me, God will often speak to me in those moments where I’m sitting still, coming out of rest. The Holy Spirit will whisper to my heart and reveal His thoughts to me. It allows me to be dependant on Him. Don’t keep looking at the problem because I believe if you want God’s will you will get God’s will! It just may take some time.
