Leadership that we need to get to better days is right in front of us, but it’s not in Washington D.C. They are focused on dividing you and me to address their own limited agenda. A big part of the Rooftop podcast is creating relevance in hard times. No one embodies that more than Bonnie Carroll. When she lost her husband Army Brigadier General Tom Carroll in a tragic plane crash in 1992, she re-purposed her grief into creating an organization known as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). When East Palestine School Superintendent Chris Neifer got the emergency call that a train had de-railed and the town was burning, he wasn’t surprised to hear that his school would be the site of an emergency shelter and command center. There have been several articles and reports that have surfaced from East Palestine. Many of them from the 24-7 news cycle portray the town as heavily divided and ill-equipped for the chemical disaster that fell upon them. In my visit to East Palestine and multiple interviews with the village leaders who are getting it done at the grassroots level, I found something completely different. Former firefighter, miner, and factory manager, who had to step up with no notification into one of the greatest chemical disasters in our nation’s history. How do you overcome the gut punch of losing a parent in war and transform into a high-performing protector?
