Episode 85: A Letter To My Ex

Breakups...ugh they suck! Sometimes it's a clean break. But more often than not, the period that follows can be messy and often left with words unsaid. As time passes and more life and love insight are gained, we may have even more we'd like to say to our former partner. The 3 of us have thought back into our dating history and each selected one ex. We then each took the time to write a letter to this ex, and we’re going to spend this episode sharing and discussing those letters with each other and all of you! Episode 84: 4th Generation- Between Two Worlds with Sierra Katow & Taylor Chan

The Asian American identity & the stories that exist within our community are vast & extremely nuanced. The three of us have explored our own identities through various episodes (Episode 25: ABM-AsianBossMoms, Episode 63: APAHM - Growing Up in An Asian Household, Episode 64: My Asian Am Identity) with the lens of us specifically being 2nd gen Asian Americans. If you listened to those episodes, you heard us talk about our parents’ immigration stories and how we balance the culturally traditional side (that our parents pass down to us) with our western side (the environment we were raised in).Today, we want to explore another identity within the Asian American experience...the stories and perspectives of people who are 4th generation. And to help us explore this topic, we have brought on 2 very special & familiar faces (and voices)…Comedian/Writer, Sierra Katow, and Director/Writer, Taylor Chan! Tune in to hear them share their stories about the feeling of growing up “in-between” two worlds. This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh.---P A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode:- Skillshare: First 1,000 people to use skillshare.com/abg10 will get a free trial of Skillshare Premium Membership- BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month at betterhelp.com/ABG10- Tushy: Get 10% off at hellotushy.com/ABG- Calm: Get 40% off a premium subscription at calm.com/ABGS U B S C R I B E T O U S !- podcast: spoti.fi/2w8tk1n- instagram: instagram.com/asianbossgirl- youtube: bit.ly/3ep2Dqp- website: asianbossgirl.comE – M A I L U S !- asianbossgirl@gmail.comS U P P O R T U S !- merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com- donation: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 83: Attachment Theory and Me

Happy October everyone! This month, we are focused on the topic of self-exploration. And today, we will be talking about the fascinating theory of attachment styles. This theory has studied how parents/caregivers have played a significant role in the attachment styles of their children. As children interact with these caregivers as a secure base to explore from and return to, the response from these caregivers leads to the development of patterns of attachment for the child, i.e. are the parent’s responses loving, caring, angry? These interactions then guide the child’s thoughts, feelings, and expectations in later relationships in life, romantic or otherwise. In the late 1980s, psychologists noticed that interactions between adults are similar to those between children and caregivers. For example, adults feel comforted when those they are attached to are present, or they become anxious or lonely when they are absent. They observed that romantic relationships serve as a secure base that helps people to face the surprises, opportunities, and challenges that life presents. So today, we’re getting personal and going deep by analyzing our attachment styles!! There are four main styles of attachment: 1) secure attachment, 2) anxious-preoccupied attachment, 3) dismissive-avoidant attachment, and 4) fearful-avoidant attachment. Which do you think we'll be?Quizzes we took:https://dianepooleheller.com/attachment-test/#header https://yourpersonality.net/attachment/menu.php This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh.---P A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode:- Audible: Get 1 credit to pick any title, plus access to unlimited Audible Originals each month at Audible.com/ABG- SchoolMaskPack: Get free shipping at SchoolMaskPack.com/ABG, code: ABG.- Mint Mobile: Get the unlimited wireless plan for $30 a month at Mintmobile.com/ABG- Pretty Litter: Get 20% off your first order at PretyLitter.com, code: ABG- Curology: Get a free 30-day trial at Curology.com/ABGS U B S C R I B E T O U S !- podcast: spoti.fi/2w8tk1n- instagram: instagram.com/asianbossgirl- youtube: bit.ly/3ep2Dqp- website: asianbossgirl.comE – M A I L U S !- asianbossgirl@gmail.comS U P P O R T U S !- merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com- donation: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 81: Finding the Right Career

This month, we are focused on the topic of careers and entrepreneurship. To find a career that is the right fit, it’s important to not only understand WHAT we want but WHO we are - what are we good at? Understanding our personal strengths, weaknesses, and work values is not a one-time exercise. It requires a lot of patience, dedication, and active energy to understand ourselves, and also account for all the ways in which we change over the span of our working years. To prepare for this episode, we each took a number of evaluation tests that measure our skills, personality preferences, and work values. We’ll talk about everything from our inductive reasoning skills to structural visualization skills to dominance vs. influence and end with a fun Buzzfeed quiz to evaluate what career we should each be in. Take the quizzes & follow along in our conversation as we dissect our results! Episode 79: Our Corporate Horror Stories

Although the three of us now work on AsianBossGirl full time, we all have had experience working in corporate. From that obnoxious coworker who loved hearing the sound of his own voice, to horrible bosses that lacked a single empathetic bone in his/her body, to comments from coworkers about race and an unnerving correlation with some aspect of your work. As kids, we would make up scary stories to tell our friends, but now as adults, we STILL have scary stories to tell – only this time, they’re 100% real, and 100% scary, if not more. In line with this month’s theme of entrepreneurship and careers, we take a walk down memory lane and recount some of the horrific instances we experienced while working our past jobs. Episode 78: Finding Hope

2020 is proving to be a challenge. On a larger scale, the world is facing a global pandemic that is trickling down and unveiling an ugly side to our country. All of these things happening in the world, whether we want to admit or not, affect all of us on an individual level. Through our conversations with each other & with our loved ones, we realize there also exists a feeling of guilt. Guilt that tells us that we don’t “deserve” to feel sad or down because “someone else is going through something worse”. But now is not the time to ignore the voice in your head that separates your soul from your ego. With all the time we’re spending at home, battling safety and our own sanity, it has become increasingly important to learn to listen to ourselves -- all parts of ourselves – the bright AND the dreary. Because only then- can we learn to bring light into a world that otherwise feels dim. Today, we’re discussing how we’re finding positivity & hope during the time. Please let us know how you're finding hope in our comments below! Episode 77: A Woman’s Right to Vote

This year's August 18th marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which guaranteed and protected women’s constitutional right to vote. As Asian American women, however, this celebration was a little different for us. The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote, but women of color were still marginalized under this law. The fight for voting rights for women of color continued for many years after 1920, and it wasn't until the Voting Rights Act in 1965 that racial discrimination was finally prohibited in voting. These series of events emphasize how powerful, sought after, and precious the right to vote is. Voting is the single most direct expression of how we want the social constructs of our society to be managed. Today's episode is dedicated to all the women who have fought, progressed, and won us the opportunity to exercise one of our most basic civic rights - the right to vote! We talk about our earliest memories of the concept of voting (does anyone remember high school superlatives, homecoming court, or student government?), if voting was ever discussed within our Chinese/Taiwanese households, our first times voting, the resources we used, and what voting means to us now.
