Episode 168: Asian American Identity with Old Navy’s Head of Voice, Jeanine Pang
In our last episode, the three of us talked about our relationships with our Asian American identity. Today, as we often do on this podcast, we have invited a guest to offer a different perspective on this topic. She is the Senior Creative Director, Head of Voice at Old Navy, a brand often associated with traditional Americana when we were teenagers - I don’t know if anyone else remembers those Old Navy 4th of July T-shirts, but they were pretty iconic and widely worn when we were young. Jeanine also happens to be an Asian American woman. As Head of Voice, she’s created award-winning marketing campaigns for the brand, including the size-inclusive Bodequality! campaign last year. Before Old Navy, she has written and edited for Vogue, W Magazine, Refinery29, and Opening Ceremony. She also has a masters in journalism from columbia university, and has written numerous culture features and op-eds. In our personal conversations, she has shared her passion for the Asian American identity - thinking through questions like “What does it mean to be Asian? and “What does it mean to be American?” We shared some of our own perspectives on this topic in the last episode, and now, we get to hear from Jeanine. This month, we’re working with Old Navy on a campaign to celebrate our AAPI heritage and reclaim what it means to be ‘American’ in 2022”. We are so pleased to be partnering with them on this very important conversation, so thank you, Old Navy, for sponsoring this episode. This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh.___________________________L I S T E N E R S U R V E Y:Let us know your thoughts on the podcast hereP A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode:- AcornTV: Get 30 days free with code abg at acorn.tv- Billie: Get The Starter Kit for just $9 at mybillie.com/ABG- Comcast: Learn more and apply at www.comcastRISE.com/apply- Fast Growing Trees: Get 15% off at fastgrowingtrees.com/abg- First Republic Bank: Visit firstrepublic.com- Little Passports: Get 20% off at littlepassports.com/ABG- Peloton: Get The Peloton Bike+ for $500 less and more at oneploton.comS H O U T O U T !- Give a shoutout on the podcast here.S U B S C R I B E T O U S !- @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts / Spotify / YouTube / Instagram / Twitter / Facebook- More about us at asianbossgirl.comE – M A I L U S !- hello@asianbossgirl.comS U P P O R T U S !- merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com- donation: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 167: Our Changing Asian American Identities
As we evolve as humans, it’s only natural that our identities evolve with us - from growing into new roles (like becoming a mother) to deepening existing ones (like becoming a confident entrepreneur), our identities are ever-changing. Today we’re going to talk about the cultural component of our identities - our relationship with our Asian & Asian-Americanness.We recorded an episode a few years ago talking through this exact topic (Ep 64). However, with the spread of hate crimes against Asians throughout the pandemic, and after co-hosting a podcast for Asian American women for 5 years now, it’s no surprise that our relationships with our identities as Asian Americans have evolved.Today, we want to explore what it means to us, in this moment in time, to be Asian, American, and Asian American. This month, we are working with Old Navy on a campaign to celebrate our AAPIHM heritage. We are so pleased to be partnering with them on this very important conversation, so thank you, Old Navy, for sponsoring this episode. This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh.___________________________L I S T E N E R S U R V E Y:Let us know your thoughts on the podcast hereP A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode:- Old Navy: Check out oldnavy.comS H O U T O U T !- Give a shoutout on the podcast here.S U B S C R I B E T O U S !- @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts / Spotify / YouTube / Instagram / Twitter / Facebook- More about us at asianbossgirl.comE – M A I L U S !- hello@asianbossgirl.comS U P P O R T U S !- merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com- donation: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 166: Raising A Daughter as an Immigrant Mother - Our AAPI Moms
May is a very special month for us here at AsianBossGirl. For one, it is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, AAPIHM for short, and it is also Mother’s Day coming up on May 8th!In light of Mother’s Day coming up, and the three of us on this podcast, today’s discussion will be honoring OUR mothers and talking about what it was like for them as immigrant mothers in this country. While we’ve talked about their immigration stories in past episodes (their journeys to America), we never got to really ask them – “What was it like for you, as someone who left home, to raise a daughter here, in America?” This month, we are working with Old Navy on a campaign to celebrate our AAPIHM heritage. Episode 162: All My Friends Are Getting Married and Having Kids
The 30s are a decade where many (obviously not all) but many people experience 2 MAJOR life milestones: marriage and kids. We imagine that each of those events is like a door into a different room - on one side is the before, and after you step inside, you’re in a different room with different life circumstances - maybe kids more than marriage, but still - both are very life altering events. Mel and Janet are currently both in the same room - the one with no man and no babies! If you ever feel like all your friends are either getting married or having kids, while you’re just…not - join in on this convo! This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh.___________________________L I S T E N E R S U R V E Y:Let us know your thoughts on the podcast hereP A R T N E R S mentioned in this episode:- First Republic: Visit firstrepublic.com- Framebridge: Get 15% off your first order with code ABG at framebridge.com- Peloton: Visit onepeloton.com- Third Love: Get 20% off your first order at thirdlove.com/ABG- Truebill: Visit truebill.com/ABG- Waterdrop: Get 15% off with code ABG15 at waterdrop.com- Zocdoc: Get the app for free at zocdoc.com/ABGS H O U T O U T !- Give a shoutout on the podcast here.S U B S C R I B E T O U S !- @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts / Spotify / YouTube / Instagram / Twitter / Facebook- More about us at asianbossgirl.comE – M A I L U S !- hello@asianbossgirl.comS U P P O R T U S !- merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com- donation: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support Learn more about your ad choices.
