267. Step into YOU with Lorraine Murphy

Do you remember a time where you felt really ‘you'. In flow? Maybe a great sense of boundless energy? The sense that there was something really motivating to wake up for each day in work, love, life? To kick off the new year I invite Lorraine Murphy, author of 3 wonderful books in the past centred around productivity, and now with a new book Step Into You, to discuss this - we talk about alarm bells that things are not going well and you need to pay attention - LOVE Lorraine's analogy on this, and also talk about some of the tools we can use to bring ourselves back to ourselves - not entirely easy with all the demands that come up in life, often with the busy-ness clouding our own filtering and awareness of when things might not be best for us! Enjoy the first show of 2022 and head to the show notes for more details on the book and this week's sponsor, over at lowtoxlife.com/podcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. 265. Mark Herrema on Replacing Plastic with AirCarbon

This week continuing our eco disruptor interviews, I interview Mark Herrema. Did you ever believe we might be able to stop using plastic and replace it with something that won't harm people and planet? Well, it may just be possible with AirCarbon and I'm very excited to see where this goes. Mark Herrema is the co-founder and CEO of Newlight Technologies. In 2003, Mark co-founded Newlight with a vision of using greenhouse gas as a resource to make high-performance sustainable materials. After a decade of research, Mark and his team developed a technology that uses a natural process found in the ocean to make a material called AirCarbon. AirCarbon is a meltable energy storage molecule made in almost all known living things that are strong, meltable, and ocean-degradable.AirCarbon is now being used to replace plastic in single-use food ware, fashion products, and a variety of other applications. Newlight has been honoured to receive recognition as “Biomaterial of the Year” by the Nova Institute, “Innovation of the Year” by Popular Science, and “Technology Pioneer” by the World Economic Forum. In 2016, Newlight was awarded the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.Mark graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and has since garnered over 15 years of expertise in process engineering, polymer functionalization, and strategic business development. I hope you enjoy this discovery as much as I have, hearing Mark's story and the development of something truly disruptive in the plastics space.Enjoy the show and head to the show notes for more details over at lowtoxlife.com/podcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. 264. Alyssa Couture on fashion for your health

This week we're talking Fashion with Alyssa Couture - It's been a while since we discussed fashion on the show and today with Alyssa, we talk about fashion for health - like did you know that polyester, never mind the horror of microplastics, has an acidic ph and feels unnatural on the skin as well as increasing the chance of rashes, body odour and pore clogging? So today's conversation is one that goes very deep into fashion for people and the planet and I loved it. Alyssa's upcoming fashion book HEALTHY FASHION: THE DEEPER TRUTHS establishes an alternative approach to apparel. Her work Healthy Fashion creates + broadcasts enlightening content on fashion deemed medicinal and I think it's a must read - it's way easier to avoid buying excess or synthetic clothes when we really understand the multiple why-nots, right? 263. Professor James Trevelyan - Disrupting air conditioning for a healthier planet!

Professor James Trevelyan is an engineer with many accolades for inventions and innovations over the past 4 decades. From sheep sheering robots to landmine clearance technology to many things in between and now? Disrupting the air conditioning industry with something that cools people without cooking the planet - which is what, unfortunately, conventional air conditioning does. It's exciting to have him on the show to discuss his innovation and share with the world how we can revolutionise our sleep in warm climates by cooling ourselves rather than every room in the house. I hope you enjoy the interview and if you want to cut straight to the Coolzy innovation, skip to 20mins in, but if you, like, me, enjoy hearing about how someone comes to be doing what they do today, I found it fascinating to discuss some of his key innovations over the years. Journalist Julian Cribb, author or many books including his latest, Earth Detox, has spent a career asking the biggest of questions of where the human species and planet are headed, and then answering them. In this show, we discuss the harmful effects of the desire to constantly grow, population boom and crash (and how that won't be pretty!) pollution, environmental toxins, greenhouse gasses, agricultural inputs and regenerative agriculture solutions - all things that if we deeply understand we can then put our best effort into solutions as a collective.
