414: Bitachon & Your Relationship with Money with Rabbi David Sutton
B”H
Learn the 5 Jewish Strategies for Business & Financial Fulfilment at yaeltrusch.com/strategies
My guest today says, bitachon – reliance on G-d – is actually a very simple concept. I’m delighted to bring on a Rabbi whose books on bitachon I’ve read and taught many times, Rabbi David Sutton. If you’ve ever struggled with this concept and how to apply it in your financial life, today’s show is for you.
Rabbi David Sutton is a rabbinical figure in the Syrian community in Flatbush. He and Rabbi David Ozeirey are the spiritual leaders of, and teachers in, the Yad Yosef Torah Center of Avenue J. As of late, he is the Director of SIMHA the sephardic initiative for mental health awareness. His daily audio messages on Bitachon and Emotional wellness are heard by thousands. His previously published titles include: The Sephardic Heritage Haggadah, Aleppo — City of Scholars, Stories of Spirit and Faith, Living Shabbos, and A Treasury of Sephardic Bedtime Stories and more recently the Beis Halevi on Bitachon and Ahavas Yisrael as well as two volumes of a daily dose of Bitachon.
Rabbi Sutton and I discuss: the difference between bitachon and emunah, the impact of bitachon in our relationship with money, practical tips to master bitachon, and what Ashkenazim can learn from Sephardim when it comes to the application of bitachon and their relationship with money.

I discovered Aliza’s work after October 7th, when she began using her voice and her skills as a communicator to stand up against terrorism, and antisemitism. Throughout our conversation, we speak about how to stay on brand, and how to choose what things will be on brand for you. Therefore, we had to discuss her decision to do something that may have been perceived as not on brand – using her platforms for Jewish advocacy. Listen how she was able to turn this into an “and,” not an “or.” Getting paid for your work, and the two critical things you need to consider very strongly whenever you’re presented with a career opportunity, so you can get over any self doubt you might feel and move forward. Money mindset, lessons she learned from her parents and more with the wise and wonderful, Aliza Licht.

410: Creating an Economic Iron Dome for Israel & the Jewish People with Brian Spivak, Founder of Barzel Media
B”H
This episode is brought to you by American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri. Help our brothers and sisters in Israel by donating today at bezri.org
My guest today is working with the people that others don’t want to work with – the influencers whose brand partnerships got cancelled after Oct. 7 and whose income has been affected because they’ve used their voice and platforms as advocates for the Jewish people, against terrorism and against antisemitism. Brian Spivak is the Founder of Barzel Media.
Ever since October 7, Brian has become a public and motivational speaker, a prominent figure in Tel Aviv, and an essential leader in the Pro-Israel ecosystem, despite having no prior experience in that world. He hails from the world of tech, but after the events of October 7, Brian began volunteering with the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. There he led the influencer program, managed a team of volunteers, and ensured that influencers and celebrities could advocate positively for the hostages. Throughout his time there, Brian hosted numerous celebrities and influencers, spearheading powerful influencer campaigns that had a significant impact for the families involved. Witnessing the lack of support for the Pro-Israel influencers who were loosing partnerships and income, Brian knew he needed to help these digital warriors stay afloat and continue their important work. Brian founded Barzel Media whose mission is to create an “Economic Iron Dome” for Israel & Jewish people.
Today we’re going to talk about the different ways Barzel Media tries to accomplish this. Brian and I talk about the challenges of taking on such a project, the lessons he’s learned about overcoming fears that have directly led him to where he is today in his career. Financial and life lessons that will definitely inspire you, with Brian Spivak.
You can find Brian @barzel.media or barzelmedia.com

B”H
This episode is brought to you by American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri. Help our brothers and sisters in Israel by donating today at bezri.org
Today on Jewish Money Matters, I sit with Daniel Schulman, Author of the newly released book The Money Kings: The Epic Story of the Jewish Immigrants Who Transformed Wall Street and Shaped Modern America. What was the impetus to embark on this project and did he hesitate because of its potential to fuel antisemitism? What were some of the things he learned about the Money Kings, surprises, disappointments and what would he still like to know if he had the chance to sit and interview them? We talk about antisemitism, assimilation and of course philanthropy – one of the most beautiful and significant legacies of the Money Kings.
A little bit more about Daniel. He’s a journalist whose work has appeared in publications including the Boston Globe Magazine, Politico, Vanity Fair, the Washington Post, and Mother Jones, where he is the magazine’s deputy Washington, DC bureau chief. Schulman’s first book, Sons of Wichita, a biography of the Koch brothers, was a New York Times Best seller, a finalist for the Financial Times and won the McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award. He lives outside of Boston with his wife and sons.
Here’s Daniel Schulman.

406: The business of tzedakah and more with David Nesenoff, Author of I Never Met The Rebbe Many Times
B”H
This episode is brought to you by American Friends of Yad Eliezer/B’ezri Help our brothers and sisters in Israel by donating today at bezri.org
We’re kicking off the month of Kislev with a very special interview with David Nesenoff, author of I Never Met the Rebbe Many Times. David gives us a real look at the world of business. None of that fake stuff you see on Instagram. Real. What is entrepreneurship like, how do we have to see our efforts and our endeavors in this world? Spoiler: we need a Jewish lens. And David is here to help us refocus the lens to make sure it’s a Torah true Jewish lens. You’re going to love this one.
David Nesenoff is a renowned speaker, rabbi, publisher, journalist, author, musician, and filmmaker. He was an anti-bias consultant for the U.S. Justice Department’s Civil Rights Monitors Office. His creative award-winning films have been screened by numerous venues including the Sundance Film Festival. He was the publisher and editor-in-chief of The Jewish Star newspaper in New York and The Jerusalem Observer in Israel.
He’s spoken in over 700 Chabad Houses worldwide and is not planning on stopping. He received the National Jewish Hero Award from the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute.
Nesenoff’s interview with journalist and dean of the Washington press corps Helen Thomas at the White House caused her international demise. She was banished from her front-row seat and journalism after her 60-year career of covering every president since Eisenhower. The interview and its aftermath also had a striking effect on Israel, international media, and anti-Semitism and personally transformed David Nesenoff’s life. And today you will hear how.
