Further Miracles That Prove Jesus is the Messiah. (Matthew 8:28 - 9:10)

Send us a textThe Healing of the Demon Possessed and the Paralyzed. (Matthew 8:28-9:10) The Healing of the Demon Possessed Men28 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”  (Matthew 8: 28-29)30 Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine. 32 And He said to them, “Go.” So, when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea and perished in the water.  (Matthew 8: 30-32)33 Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. The told the people in the city “everything” that had happened. . 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region. (Matthew 8: 33-34)The Healing of the Paralyzed Man.1 So, Jesus got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. 2 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”  (Matthew 9: 1-3)4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” (Matthew 9: 4-6)The calling of Matthew.9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So, he arose and followed Him. 10 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. ........................................................................................The Bible Project Podcast (Daily - Monday-Friday)https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com.This podcast was brought to you by the generosity of my backers on Patreon. The Lady Hewley Trust,  Hilary Tulloh, Adeline Israel, Stefanie Eichenberg, Stephen Longton, Bob Clough, Valerie Sims, Lisa Look, Robert Holloway, The Creative  Fund, John  VaSupport the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Further Evidence that Jesus is the Messiah (Matthew 8 23-34)

Send us a textMore Evidence that Jesus is the Messiah (Matthew 8: 23-34) Introduction.Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Messiah promised in the Old Testament.  Matthew’s gospel was written to prove that Jesus is the Messiah, the king of Israel and there is no better section in all of the book to demonstrate this than in chapters 8 and 9.Jesus Calms the Storm.23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marvelled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8: 23-27)The Healing of the Demon Possessed Man28 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! (Matthew 8: 5-10)Outer Darkness11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour. (Matthew 8: 11-13)A Healing of Peter’s Mother-in-Law.“When Jesus had come under peter’s house, he saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever, so he touched her hand and the fever left her and she arose and served them. When evening had come, they brought to him many who were demon possessed and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed them all who were sick that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying he himself bore our infirmities he bore our sins. How To Know That Jesus Was The Messiah - Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy (Matthew 8 1-4)

Send us a textThe Bible Project Podcast (Daily - Monday-Friday)https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com.This podcast was brought to you by the generosity of my backers on Patreon. The Lady Hewley Trust,  Hilary Tulloh, Adeline Israel, Stefanie Eichenberg, Stephen Longton, Bob Clough, Valerie Sims, Lisa Look, Robert Holloway, The Creative  Fund, John  Van Mulligen, Sergey  Kochergan, Bobbi  Patchin, Thomas  Unitt, Colin  Evans' Martin  MPW...............................................................................................How to know that Jesus Was the Messiah- Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy Matthew 8: 1-4 Introduction - The Messianic HopeWhen He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”  (Matthew 8: 1-4)The Old Testament predicted that a Messiah was coming, and Christians claimed the name of Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of that prophecy. The Jews for the most part, even to this day reject that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and most believe they are still waiting for him to appear. So maybe we should ask how do we know that Jesus Christ is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament books in the Bible. Now the miracles come thick and fast and we’re going to look at each of these three groups of three miracles, maybe one at a time over the next week or so. Today we are just going to look at the first of that initial group of three. The first group depicts Jesus’ power over disease, and the second group portrays his power over nature, and then we will finally get to look at the third group which depicts his authority to forgive sin and his power over death. So today we’re going to begin look at the first of that group of three so look with me at Matthew chapter 8 beginning at verse one.I The Healing of the Man with Leprosy II The Next MiracleSupport the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

The Authority of Jesus (Matthew 7: 28-29)

(Matthew 7: 28-29)Introduction.Jesus had ended his message, his sermon, and Matthew closes this section by adding a sort of eyewitness comment on how the people received it sayings, that the people were astonished at his teaching for he taught them as one having authority and not as the other religious leaders of his day did. I want to close of the time we have spent together over the last 45 days in fact, studying the Sermon on the Mount by looking at these two final verses, because they are really pertinent to not only what’s being said about the wise and the foolish man, but to his whole message.Although the bulk of the sermon on the mount is addressed to disciples, the Lord does not forget the fact that there were unbelievers present, and it was apparently these unbelievers who were astonished at what he said. The word translated astonished means to be struck like a coin, “impacted is a good translation”, to be amazed to be astonished.  But that statement raises the question, why were they so awestruck by not only what he said, but how he said it?Who were the ScribesJesus, in approaching it this way, demanded two things. Firstly, he demanded that we should listen. One of the great difficulties which faces people today is a simple fact that most people do not know what Jesus said or what even the Bible teaches. They don’t recognise that he has to be something that they need not pay any attention to. In truth, the very first step towards the Christian life is simply giving Jesus the opportunity to be heard. Secondly, he demanded that people should get to know, and that knowledge only becomes relevant when it is translated into action. It is quite possible for an individual to pass an examination and Christian ethics with the highest possible mark and yet not be a Christian. Knowledge. Biblical knowledge must become action. Our Reaction to Jesus.Support the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7: 15-20)There’s an old saying that says if it looks like a duck, and waddles like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, then it’s probably a duck. But suppose I were to tell you that Jesus that’s not always true. Suppose I also told you that when he said that what he had in mind was religious people, people who held positions whereby they were seen to spoke out about God said or thought, what we would today call preachers. Not all preachers that look like preachers, they may look like preachers, and they may talk like preachers, but are they really messengers of God. This is why he tells us to beware of false prophets.Beware False ProphetsYou will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
