"Mank" is one of 2020's most technically dazzling films. David Fincher's perfectionism transported us back to the Golden Age of Hollywood to tell us the story of Academy Award winning screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz (played by Gary Oldman) and the film has been hailed as one of the year's best, most recently being rewarded as one of the Top 10 films of the year by the American Film Institute (AFI). Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods" was released earlier this summer on Netflix to acclaim from critics and then shortly afterward, it only grew in public consciousness due to the lasting power of the film's story, the summer's Black Lives Matter movement and the tragic death of one of the film's stars, Chadwick Boseman. Delroy Lindo, the film's lead, has had a career that has lasted for nearly fifty years and he received the highest reviews of his career for his tormented portrayal of the Donald Trump supporting, PTSD suffering, Vietnam war veteran, Paul. Delroy was kind enough to take a few moments to talk about the recognition he has received so far for the film, his experience reuniting with director Spike Lee, working with Chadwick Boseman in a scene that has taken on new meaning since the actor's untimely death and more! "The Trial Of The Chicago 7" is one of the best films of 2020 and one of its most timely as well. Writer/Director Aaron Sorkin ("Molly's Game" & "The Social Network") could have never predicted just how timely the movie would be when it premiered on Netflix this past September. Not only was he kind enough to spend some time talking to me about the making of his second directorial achievement but one of the stars from the acclaimed ensemble cast, Academy Award -nominated actor, Frank Langella ("Frost/Nixon"), spoke with Dan Bayer about his involvement in the picture as well. "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" is one of the year's very best films. A lot of that has to do with the source material by August Wilson and the performances from Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman. But a lot of what makes the film work are the crafts behind-the-scenes. Director George C. Wolfe was kind enough to spend some time speaking with Daniel Howat about what it took to bring the play to life on the screen. Also, Will Mavity got a chance to interview cinematographer Tobias Schliessler and the Makeup Department head, Matiki Anoff, the Hair Department head, Mia Neal and the personal makeup artist for Viola Davis, Sergio Lopez-Rivera.
