My guest today is someone I had the pleasure to meet over 25 years ago and someone I have been blessed with to have as part of my life ever since. I have been watching him evolve and create unbelievable things that actually matter to the planet since I was in my 20s. It's an honor to have Dr. David Edwards on the Hack My Age podcast…25 years later! David Edwards is a Harvard researcher who, I remember around the 90s was researching and designing inhalable medicines and vaccines that could be delivered to the lungs instead of taking a pill or shot. It sounded so sci-fi to me at the time. But he did it. As long as I have known him he has always been working on new ways of improving human health and wellbeing through the air we breathe as well as so many other modalities. In the late 90s he founded and eventually sold a startup called Advanced Inhalation Research (AIR), So, you can see he has been involved in the respiratory system and treating infectious diseases through the airways for quite a long time. For 18 years, David was the Professor of the Practice of Bioengineering at Harvard University in the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences and later transitioned to Associate to lead the startup of FEND and support the startup of the nonprofit Next Breath. in 2004, he was studying how to protect people from one of the most horrible, airborne biological weapons of our time: anthrax. He is now one of the world's leading respiratory health scientists and today is on a mission to help all of us breathe and move about safely during this pandemic with what TIME magazine has called "The best invention of 2020", FEND, and we talk about this really cool gadget today. David's been recognized by many international organizations and has received an incredible number of honors and awards. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the US and in France, he's also a member of the National Institute of Inventors, and a Chevalier of the Arts & Letters by the French Ministry of Culture. He loves writing. He gets up super early while we are all sleeping to write. It's a real passion of his. Pelvic floor specialist Kim Vopni is known as the Vagina Coach and she's disrupting taboo topics to help women all over the world overcome problems of our most intimate parts, like vaginal prolapse and incontinence, which is a bigger problem than you may think. Menopause In Athletic Women Is Different - Dr. Stacy Sims

This is a podcast for anyone who is perimenopausal or post menopausal or for anyone who works or lives with this cohort of women from doctors to physical trainers to husbands and brothers. Dr. Stacy Sims is a true pioneer in the field of exercise physiology and nutrition, because she has been unraveling some horrific truths about science and research and how it relates to women. Things like showing how most studies are done on men, because women are "too complicated" with their hormones and cycles, and how many products, drugs and treatments are designed by men for men based on this research. As a researcher, innovator and entrepreneur in human performance, Dr. Sims is truly a beacon of light for all women out there to understand our sex differences in training, nutrition and environmental conditions. She has combined her knowledge and experience in books like ROAR and a new one coming out called Next Level: Your Guide to Kicking Ass, Feeling Great, and Crushing Goals Through Menopause and Beyond. She has also launched some kick ass online programs that women of all ages rave about, but the one we are going to talk about today is MENOPAUSE FOR ATHLETES. I'm now going to give you my honest opinion. This program blew my mind. It is THE best one I have ever gone through. I am already 51 and I have gone through A LOT of them. And I know I am not the only one out there with this opinion. Dr. Sims is highly qualified to talk about topics like menopause, hormones, food and training. Back in 2007, she was the exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist at Stanford University where she specialized in sex differences for recovery and performance. And if you do a Google Search, you will find a ton of studies that Dr. Sims has published. She's really dedicated her life to challenging the existing dogma for women in exercise, nutrition and health and has created an incredible community of feisty menopausal women along the way. She now lives in New Zealand with her family and continues to do the amazing work work she does for all of us from there. Manage Menopause, HRT & Understand Hormones At 50+ - Dr. Elizabeth Yurth

Today's guest is back for a second time on the show and she is one of my favorite guests. She is a regenerative and anti-aging doctor who has a whole list of qualifications and she's one of the most well-trained doctors on hormones. She's incredibly intelligent and in this episode helps us understand our own hormones and clear the confusion on hormone replacement therapy. I'm talking about the one and only Dr. Elizabeth Yurth who has helped hundreds of women just like us solve joint pain, menopause symptoms like bloating, moodiness and fatigue and just get back to our old balanced and energetic selves. Reversing Alzheimer's & Dementia in Women - Dr. Dale Bredesen

Today's guest is Dr. Dale Bredesen - an expert in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He wrote a groundbreaking book and New York Times bestseller that you probably have already heard of : The End of Alzheimer's (2017) and then several years later wrote a follow up book: The End of Alzheimer's Program (2020). And just several weeks ago he published a new book called "The First Survivors of Alzheimer's: How Patients Recovered Life and Hope in Their Own Words". This is a great book to hear first hand real stories of people who have reversed their Alzheimer's diagnosis. Dr. Bredesen is a professor at UCLA, but he has also taught at UC San Francisco and the University of California San Diego. He directed the Program on Aging at the Burnham Institute before coming to the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in 1998 as its founding president and CEO. Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative condition where we have a progressive decline in cognitive function, like thinking and reasoning. People with Alzheimer's are eventually unable to do any activities of daily living, simple things like bathing, driving and dressing. It's the most common form of dementia in people over the age of 65; about one in 10 people over 65 has Alzheimer's disease, but if you're a woman, your risk is 1 in 5. Nearly half of all people over age 85 are affected by Alzheimer's. That's 50%! What's crazy is that almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women. So we explore why this is with Dr. Bredesen today and what we can do to lower our risk. Most doctors and experts in this field say there is no cure for Alzheimer's. But Dr. Bredesen blatantly says that Alzheimer's is absolutely 100% reversible and preventable. He is going against the grain with his research, which he has been working on for decades. Adrenaline Dominance & Bioidentical Hormones - Dr. Michael Platt

Dr. Michael Platt clears the confusion on bioidentical hormones and what this can mean for women going into menopause. We also talk about adrenaline dominance.
