Remember The Game? Retro Gaming Podcast
Adam Blank
Comedian Adam Blank hosts "Remember The Game?", a retro gaming podcast. Each week, Adam and his guest will select a video game that they grew up playing, and spend time reminiscing about what they loved (or hated) about it. Not intended to be a history lesson, "Remember The Game?" is more like a conversation you'd overhear on the playground as a kid. The discussions are all over the place, and are guaranteed to fill you with that warm, nostalgic feeling. (Or rage, like you felt with the underwater level in the original Ninja Turtles game). Either way, it's gonna be fun! New episodes every Wednesday!

We're talking one of the greatest RPGs of all-time, starring one of the greatest villains of all-time, on one of the greatest consoles of all-time. It's Final Fantasy VI, straight up one of the greatest video games of all-time. I didn't play this one much as a lad, but I've lost to Kafka (if you know, you know) a few times in my adult years, and it never gets old. The characters in this game are awesome, the customization options offer a ton of replay value, and it has Shadow for fuck sakes. There's a reason this game has a permanent spot on the podium in practically every Final Fantasy ranking list ever written.I have 2 guests this week. Episode sponsor, Darth Skywalter, swings by to explain why this game means so much to him, and then a hall of fame game deserves an (almost) hall of fame guest, so Mark McCue is giving me a call to talk Terra and friends. We're revisiting one of the best games ever, and if there's a title that deserves a revisit more than Final Fantasy VI, I don't know what it is.And before we go to the opera, I grind through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if you're only gonna buy one modern console at this point, what's the best bang for your buck? Do I try to clock the Infamous Intro in at the same time each week? And what's my favourite board game?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features possibly the 3 other RPGs that sit alongside FF6 on the SNES RPG Mt. Rushmore: Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound. Learn more about your ad choices. Remember The Game? #261 - Ken Griffey Jr. Presents: Major League Baseball

I'm hanging my head in shame. But what better way to right that wrong than by talking one of the best ball games of all-time in Ken Griffey Jr Presents Major League Baseball for the SNES??I couldn't give half a damn about baseball when I was a kid, but I still liked the video games. Black box baseball on the NES was fun, and Extra Innings on the SNES was a good time, but Griffey was always my jam. I loved the home run derby, the simple controls, and thanks to The Simpsons, I even knew who the guy on the box was!My buddy Brad (NBA Jam, Contra) returns to the show this week to talk another sports game. Another GREAT sports game. It's all about hitting dingers this week, fuck yeah! And before we argue with umps over the obviously bullshit strike zone in this game, I swing through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we talk about the future of VR. Someone asks ME for dating advice!? And what are games worth here in Canada these days???Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 SNES sports classics: NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, NHL 94, and Tecmo Super Bowl. Learn more about your ad choices. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameWhen most people think of first-person shooters on the Nintendo 64, I think 3 games come to mind: Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. We've already covered the first 2 (as I played the hell out of them back in the day), but I'd never touched Turok until a few weeks ago. It's time to hunt dinosaurs. Turok's a weird game. Not because I don't understand the story or because I think the controls are weird, but because it's just...there. It's not BAD, but I don't know if it's good. If I had played it growing up, I'm confident I woulda loved it, but by 2023 standards, it's kinda empty. But the core gameplay is fun enough to keep me from hating it.My pal Tyler is my guest this week, and we're talking endless waves of enemies, MASSIVE levels, weird enemies and exploding arrows on this episode of RTG.And before we look for keys, I trek through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we get into what the premiere launch title for Nintendo's next console could be. Why am I so scared of Kingdom Hearts?? And what NES game (that I haven't played before) do I want to play the most??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameIt's a BIG week for the Ninja Turtles with Mutant Mayhem hitting theatres, and I needed a game for this week's episode while I work on playing through Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (which will be next week's show), so I figured let's be topical AND talk about an awesome game at the same time. This week's all about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for the NES.When most people think of TMNT on the NES, they probably either think of the first game (electric seaweed, anyone?), or the Arcade game port. Manhattan Project came out toward the end of the NES's lifespan, and it's a real shame more people didn't play it, because it's a bonafide gem of a beat 'em up, and it improves on TMNT 2: The Arcade Game in practically every possible way.I'm rolling solo this week, and I had no trouble gushing about this game. My brother and I used to rent it all the time, and between the better graphics, improved combat, special moves and ABILITY TO SWAP TURTLES WHEN YOU DIE, I think this is not only one of the best TMNT games ever made, but one of the best NES games, as well. And before we explore Manhattan, I surf through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think gaming will ever be 100% streaming focused? What game that we've covered on the show needs a remaster the most? And remember Xbox Live Arcade? Of course you do.Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 other TMNT games: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003 TV series game), and TMNT (2007 Movie game). Learn more about your ad choices. I've slowly been going back and checking out all the flicks I missed from back in the day, and one of the ones that's always stood out to me is 2005's DOOM. I've heard it sucked, but I figured "I like The Rock, I like Doom, how bad can it be?"Turns out, it can be pretty, pretty, pretttyyy bad. This might be the worst movie I've ever seen in my life.My buddy Andre and I broke down the DOOM movie this week. From the shitty storyline, to the bad acting, to the crappy characters and horrible ending, this movie is awful. If you've never seen, listen to this instead, and thank us for saving you some pain. And before we rip on this stupid movie, I burn through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks how a game makes the cut to get on this stupid show of ours. Would modern game manuals convince people to buy physical copies of games? And what does the future of Zelda look like?Plus we play a rare round of 'WATCH One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Best GameCube games. Best Metroidvanias. Best Nintendo games. Best games ever made. But it's not on my "best games I've ever played list", because I've never played it. Until this past week. (And for the record, yeah, it's probably on my best games list now).I tried it a little back when it came out, but I was new to the Metroid series, and the genre, and didn't quite get what it was throwing down. Now that I know what's up, I get why this is still one of the highest scored games on Metacritic and so many people love it. Metroid Prime is fucking sick. Is it my new favourite Metroid game?? hmmmmm....listen and find out.My guest this week is one of the generous moos that made a $1,000 donation to my Extra Life stream last year, Blaine The Hoagie Man. He was stoked to have a chance to talk Prime, and now that I've played it, I get why. This should be fun.And before we fight Metroids, I rip through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we revisit the retro game emulation discussion. What do I think of the latest Mario Kart 8 tracks? And where should Fallout 5 take place?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Wonder Boy; all excellent. So I was hoping Space Harrier would scratch the same itch, and I'm happy to say, I've been scratched. This game is dope. It's as simple as I am, but as tough as I'm not. It kinda feels like F-Zero meets Galaga (I know F-Zero came out after it), and while it doesn't do much, the stuff it does does, it does really well.My guest this week is an OG hot dog and one of the guys that made a $1,000 donation to my Extra Life stream last year, McG. He grew up a Master System kid, a Space Harrier fan, and he took me to the church of Sega this week. Insert whatever you're supposed to say at the church here. Amen? And before we harry it up in space, I race through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if consoles could be on the way out, and one platform for all games could be on its way in? Will Fire Emblem ever get some RTG love? And what are my favourite Mario Kart tracks of all-time?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And there's few gams on this planet I can ramble on about for as long as I can talk about Super Mario Bros 3.Not to cheap out on this thing (does anyone actually read these?), but what can I say that we don't say int his show and that everyone else hasn't said a million times? It's Mario 3. It's one of the GOATs.My guest this week is The Gentleman of RTG (and cohost of the Quantum Kickflip podcast), David Rae. He's come by the show t talk Super Mario 1, 2 and Lost Levels, so it just seemed fitting to wrap up the NES Mario quartet by chatting frog suits and Tanookis. Learn more about your ad choices.
