This was like visiting an old friend, albeit an old friend that'll shank you into the rough and screw you over every chance it gets. By today's standards, Hot Shots probably seems a little archaic. It's the classic 3-click system, the graphics are, well, PSOne graphics, and the gameplay can be brutally unforgiving. But look beyond that and what you have is the ground work for a series that so many people have fallen in love with over the years. I wouldn't necessarily say I prefer these to Mario Golf, but there's an argument for sure. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love sports games, and as such, both love Hot Shots Golf. We talk about how tough this game can be, how far the genre has come, and of course, the legendary Hot Shots multiplayer. And before we tee off, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks about Nintendo's consumer-unfriendly practices (which I agree with). Where do I stand on Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?? And yes, I address the new Ecco the Dolphin game. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 old-school golf games: Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf, NES Open, and Kirby's Dream Course. Learn more about your ad choices. Remember The Game? #331 - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Are you on social media? Of course you are. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame The first game I bought with my own money was Kirby's Dream Land. I beat that same night and I was crushed. but ever since then, I've enjoyed every Kirby game I've played. And after 100%ing Kirby 64, I'm starting to think maybe I've forgiven that little puff ball. Kirby 64 might not be my favourite Kirby game, but it's pretty solid. Being able to combine enemy abilities is the secret sauce for sure, and when you add in some King Dedede alliance levels, the occasional mine cart level, some solid boss fights, and the fact that you can play this one with the d-pad which negates that stupid controller, you get a damned good platformer. My guest this week is PENDING Hall of Famer, Mark McCue. We've been looking for a project to do together for a while (shoutout to anyone that gets that reference), and we both had a good time with 64 Kirbys. And neither of us is ashamed to admit we had a little trouble at times, too. OK we are ashamed, but we still admit it. And before we eat, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, I address my Switch 2 acquisition situation. Do I buy old games purely based on nostalgia? And are there any games I hate that I wish I loved?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 'B-Tier' Nintendo 64 exclusives: StarFox 64, F-Zero X, and Yoshi's Story. Learn more about your ad choices. I think it (along with the rest of the GameCube wrestling games) get overshadowed by the SmackDown series, but if you grew up playing the N64 holy grail titles, you have to play this one.Day of Reckoning's controls feel like the next-step from games like WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF No Mercy. Simple enough for anyone to pick up, but there's enough depth there for us die-hards to really sink our teeth into. Add in a decent roster and a solid career mode, and you have all the ingredients for at LEAST a four-star match. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love wrestling, love wrestling games, and really like Day of Reckoning. Some minor gripes and I explain why I prefer SmackDown, but all in all DoR is a must-play for any Ruthless Aggression era junkies. And before we ring the bell, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks bout the logic behind our scoring system. How do I feel about Wreck-It Ralph? And I give some one-handed game suggestions to a hot dog with a bad wing.Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Remember The Game? #329 - XCOM 2

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameXCOM 2 has been lurking near the top of my "someday I'll play it" list for years, and I finally puled the trigger (no pun intended). After over 70 hours of sitting at my PC fighting aliens, I can safely say that XCOM 2 isn't just one of the best tactical RPGs I've ever played, but one of the best games I've ever played, period. If you've never played it, XCOM 2 is a tactical RPG, like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. You move your soldiers around on a board game-esque grid, and take turns with the computer, who's doing the same with aliens and robots. But in between missions, you're traveling the world gathering resources and using them to upgrade both your troops and your ship. Aliens have taken over the planet, and it's up to you to take it back. It's a little tough to pick up out of the gate, but once you're over the hump, it's addictive as hell.My guest this week is the winner of our Extra-Life charity auction from last December, Robert. He picked this game and now I can see why. We get into the meat of XCOM 2, talk about the superb War of the Chosen DLC, talk about our favourite soldier/ability/equipment combinations, and laugh at the bulshit that is missing a 94% shot with your ass on the line. And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we HAVE to talk a little Switch 2. How am I feeling about WrestleMania this year? And will OG Switch games be discounted after the Switch 2 drops?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Expansion Pass #15 - The Last Of Part II SpoilerCast

We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week I have not one, but TWO freebies for y'all. With season 2 of The Last of Us right around the corner, and the second game dropping on PC this week, I'm tossing both my spoiler-free review AND my spoiler-cast up for free. I recorded these back in July of 2022, right after I finished my first playthrough of The Last of Us Part II. After replaying it in 2025 I think I like it a little more than I did back at launch, but most of my thoughts still stand. Hope you enjoy the episode(s)! Learn more about your ad choices. And I'll tell ya, damned if this isn't one of the best games in the entire Game Boy library. A hidden gem among hidden gems.DK '94 is more than just a Game Boy version of the OG Donkey Kong. It starts that way, but they add like 100 additional puzzle levels once you get through the traditional 4. You play as Mario and your objective is to retrieve a key and make your way to a locked door without being killed by enemies, falling to your death, or running out of time. The levels get more complicated as you go on, and when you toss in some great DK boss fights, you get as charming of puzzle game as I've ever played. My guest this week is our resident Stpd Mnky, my buddy Daniel. We both played through this one for the first time over the past few days and both agree that it really does stack up against the best the Game Boy has to offer. A must-play as far as we're concerned. And before we tackle DK, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what gaming might look like 10 years from now? How am I feeling about Game Pass these days? And do I have any plans to check out the Outlast movie??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameAs an SNES kid, I'm still a noob when it comes to the Sega Genesis library. I've played some GREAT games on the Genesis over the life of this show, and I'm happy to add Comix Zone to that list. Looks awesome. Great concept. And tough as fuck. I say it all the time, but I love tough retro games. Just hearing the phrase 'NES tough' turns me on a little. And Comix Zone is along those lines. This might be the toughest Genesis game I've ever played, and I keep coming back for more.I'm rolling solo this week, but I snuck a bunch of listener comments into the game review. If you've never played Comix Zone, I hope this convinces you to give it a shot. Don't let the difficulty scare you off. It's a beat 'em up, inside a comic book. And the protagonist looks like Egon. What else do you need???And before I start reading comics, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what I would do it I had the green light to revive a dormant franchise in a new genre? Which IPs would make great tactical games?? And how do I manage my backlog??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Remember The Game? #326 - Wild Arms

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameAnd you can check out Captain N's Retrotopia Podcast here:https://retrotopiapodcast.podbean.com/The most fiercely contested Patreon Poll of the year is always our December RPG poll, and Wild Arms conquered it a couple months ago. I sunk about 30 hours into this one to get ready for this episode, and it was time well spent. This is the best RPG I've played in ages.It has an interesting enough story, a small party size (which I love), a banging soundtrack, and when you're not in combat, you can taste a little Link to the Past in the overworked while you use bombs, dashing, and hockshops to solve some pretty deep puzzles. I think Wild Arms gets a little overlooked because it's on the console Final Fantasy VII built, and it really deserves to have more respect put on it. This is a great game.I crossed the retro podcast streams again this week and asked Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast to join me, and we both agreed that aside from a couple minor issues, this is one of the best RPGs in the PlayStation library. And that says something because that was the Attitude Era of role-playing games. We're gonna spoil some plot points and puzzle solutions, but it'll be worth it.And before we break out our teardrops, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what would have happened if Nintendo hadn't launched the NES back in the 80's? What podcasts do I listen to while gaming? And are Shay and I gonna play Split Fiction??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too!
