Remember The Game? Retro Gaming Podcast
Adam Blank
Comedian Adam Blank hosts "Remember The Game?", a retro gaming podcast. Each week, Adam and his guest will select a video game that they grew up playing, and spend time reminiscing about what they loved (or hated) about it. Not intended to be a history lesson, "Remember The Game?" is more like a conversation you'd overhear on the playground as a kid. The discussions are all over the place, and are guaranteed to fill you with that warm, nostalgic feeling. (Or rage, like you felt with the underwater level in the original Ninja Turtles game). Either way, it's gonna be fun! New episodes every Wednesday!

Remember The Game? #350 - Grand Theft Auto V
Are you on social media? Of course you are. So follow us! Twitter: @MemberTheGameInstagram: @MemberTheGameTwitch.tv/MemberTheGameYoutube.com/RememberTheGameFacebook.com/RememberTheGamePodcastTikTok.com/@MemberTheGameAnd if you want access to hundreds of bonus (ad-free) podcasts, along with multiple new shows EVERY WEEK, consider showing us some love over at Patreon. Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameI like to save big games for every 50th episode, and they don't come much bigger than Grand Theft Auto V. I FINALY played this one for the first time and damned if it isn't the most impressive video game I've ever played.I didn't love Vice City back in the day and kinda checked out from the GTA series after that. But hosting this show got me to play San Andreas, GTA IV, and now GTA V, and with each entry I like the series more and more. IV and San Andreas are fun, but V takes it to a whole new level. Michael, Trevor, and Franklin are awesome, the missions are entertaining, the story is interesting, and the world of this game is just, I know I keep saying it, impressive! Our GTA guy, Andre, joins me this week to break down the story mode of Grand Theft Auto V. We spoil everything, get into the quest for The Big One, talk about our favourite plot points and side missions, and heap as much praise as we could squeeze into a 75 minute review onto GTA V this week. A rare-perfect score is in contention on this episode. And before we theft autos, I put together another (super-sized) edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about the crazy number of remakes and remastered we're getting these days. Did I score Mario kart World too high when I reviewed it?? And what 5 games do I consider 'must buys' from the last couple years??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Rockstar games: Red Dead Revolver, Bully, and Manhunt. Thanks for getting us to 350!!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Remember The Game? #349 - Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameIt took over 7 years to cover a Fire Emblem game on the show, which is unacceptable. But for those of you that have been waiting patiently for a FE episode, I think the wait was worth it, because I love this series and I'm ready to start handing out some flowers. The Blazing Blade was the first Fire Emblem game to find its way across the pond and onto the GBA, and while it may be a *little* archaic compared to modern titles like Three Houses, it's still as good as tactical RPGs get. You control an army of soldiers through various chapters like playing a digital board game, and with the permadeath options waiting for you to make a mistake and a decent story to drive the game forward, I'd argue this is the best bang for your GBA buck outside of Pokemon.Resident RPG nerd Keegs makes his return to the show this week and we spent over an hour working though Fire Emblem. We talked story while avoiding major plot points so you can play the game untarnished if you want to, take a dive into our favourite (and least favourite) party members, and basically just sing the praises of the Fire Emblem series as a whole. And before we blaze blades, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about what kind of console I'd design if I had infinite money. I get into some details on my upcoming Extra-Life charity stream. And where do I stand on using walkthroughs while playing games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Fire Emblem games: Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, and Awakening.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I recently played the Pixel Remaster version for the first time, so I wanted to give Cecil and friends another round of RTG.I don't disagree with anyone that says Final Fantasy VI is the superior game, but IV isn't without its charm. I love the characters, betrayals, and combat system, and personally I like the linear party management of this one better to future entries where you can mix and match as you please. It's really wild to see how far JRPGs have come since Golbez's started robbing jewelry stores, and I think FF IV deserves its flowers for helping the series evolve from its basic NES counterparts.Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we both geeked out pretty hard over this game. A couple dungeons (Dark Elf) and characters (Spoony Bard) got under our skin, but at the end of the day I think we agree that this is a must-play for fans of the genre, and a great place for someone new to Final Fantasy to get their feet wet. And before we argue with Tellah, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what the next big trend in gaming is going to be? What Mario moment blew my mind the most as a kid? And where doI stand on silent protagonists in games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Final Fantasy legends: Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy X.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Remember The Game? #347 - ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron

I've had many people tell me that the sequel is a completely different game from the first, but that didn't stop me from wanting to give it a shot. Unfortunately, the new gameplay didn't really connect with me. I loved the first game's roguelike mechanic, but this one went more in the direction of side scroller, and while it's gorgeous to look at and the dialogue is charming as hell, it's just not that fun to play.My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week, and while he grew up playing this one, he's not sure if he liked it because it was a good game, or because it was the game he rented for the weekend as a kid. We don't go full 'Ecco the Dolphin' or anything this week, but the illusive Perfect Score isn't making an appearance either. And before we panic funkingly, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if the price of a game should play a role in GOTY voting? Will games today be as valuable as classic retro games are in 30 years? And will the NHL series ever find its way onto the Switch 2??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And yep, I get it now. MLF is awesome. The football itself is fine. Personally I prefer Tecmo Bowl for my retro football fix, but this is adequate. Where Mutant League Football shines is, well, the mutants. Decapitating opponents, bribing (or murdering) refs, and pushing your opponents into outer space are just some the things that set this game apart from other classic football titles. Add in a great playoff mode, the ability to win games by killing too many of the other team's players, and some pretty solid gross out humour, and you have a game that's playable in 2025 as it was in 1993.My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We had a great time taking some shots at NFL fans while laughing it up over all the insanity that is Mutant League Football. I get why all you Sega kids are so proud of these games now, and I can PROMISE you Mutant League Hockey is getting some airtime at RTG Industries sooner than later. And before we slaughter some ref, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we compare the PS3/Xbox 360 wars to the SNES/Genesis battles of the 90's. Is there any chance we get as second Mario Kart game this generation?? And why am I a Broncos fan??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid. The first RTG dedicated to Super Metroid was fun, but the audio was bad, even by our low standards. So we're here to right that wrong and give Samus the episode she deserves. And before we hunt bounties, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what, if any, success I've had advertising RTG on the internet. Am I planning to play Kirby Air Riders? And what am I hoping to see out of the Gears of War movie??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameMy favourite thing about this podcast is discovering gems that I missed the first time around, and that's exactly what happened this week with Metal Slug 3. This is absolutely one of the best run 'n gun games I've ever played. It's an arcade game, and it took me a little while to wrap my head around the idea that I was gonna die. A lot. But once I got over my fear of death I found myself lost in this game's charm, silly smooth graphics, and hella fun gameplay. This was my first Metal Slug, but it won't be my last.My guest this week is a living legend in the world of RTG, my pal Chris. He has been bugging me since episode 1 to cover Metal Slug 3, and I finally get why. We had a scare this afternoon where we thought we had lost the review audio, but everything wrapped up in a neat little PACKAGE and I can't wait for you to let us convince you to play this game. And before we turn into zombies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about specific controllers for specific games. If I could get Shigeru Miyamoto to autograph one item, what would it be? And am I excited about the upcoming Bubsy collection???Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Remember The Game? #343 - WCW Mayhem

Subscriptions start at just $3/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year!Patreon.com/RememberTheGameGood wrestling games are awesome, and bad wrestling games are hilarious. But what about a game that isn't bad, but isn't good? It's just kinda, there? That's how I'd describe WCW Mayhem. The glory days of WCW were long gone by the time Mayhem dropped. THQ was taking their Revenge engine and turning it into WWF WrestleMania 2000, and EA picked up the bony remains of World Championship Wrestling to make a new wrestling game. The end result was Mayhem, a competent wrestling game with little replay value and a barebones career mode.I'm rolling solo this week, and while I still had fun playing WCW Mayhem, it made for a tricky review because there just isn't a lot of meat on the bone. But between the engine, ranting about Hulk Hogan, comparing it to other games from that era, and reminiscing about WCW as a whole, I managed to pry a 3-star match out of our game this week. And before we hit the ring, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think the big jumps in console generations are a thing of the past? What's my favourite WCW match? And where do I stand on the Pikmin series?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Blank Ranks Vol. 1 - My Top 10 Marvel Superheroes
Apologies everyone, a last minute delay in this week's RTG had me scrambling for a fill-in. Every second Friday over on Patreon, I drop an episode of Blank Ranks, where I do an arbitrary list of something random. The first episode went live a couple months ago and I counted down my 10 favourite Marvel Superheroes, and here it is for free for the internet to listen to and argue about. RTG will be back next week!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
