Dr Sylvia Tara | Why we gain weight and what to do about it! KKP: 239
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Sylvia Tara. She holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from The University of California, San Diego, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She was a healthcare management consultant with McKinsey & Company and has worked for the world's largest biotechnology companies. After an extended battle with fat, Dr. Tara became fascinated with its resiliency and embarked on a mission to better understand it. This book culminated in years of research and interviews with physicians, patients, and leading scientists. The Secret Life of Fat will forever change how you think about this misunderstood organ. Dr. Sylvia Tara is the author of the book, The Secret Life of Fat. This new book brings together historical perspective and cutting-edge research to reveal fat's true identity: an organ critical to our health. In this episode, Dr. Sylvia Tara reveals the inspiration behind her fat research. We usually think fat is simply storing calories. What most people don't know is that fat serves many purposes. Also, there are different types of fats. We dive into everything you need to know about fat, including what's vital about leptin and adiponectin. Later, we discuss the difference between men and women when it comes to fat loss. Plus, we talk about which types of exercises will be critical on your health journey. / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. [00:30] About Dr. Sylvia Tara Sylvia gains weight really easily. Her whole life, she watches people eat whatever they feel like, drink whatever they want, and not gain any weight. So, Dr. Sylvia decided to understand fat once and for all. She went on a big expedition to really understand fat. She wanted to know why she would gain fat easier than other people.
The Secret Life of Fat is based on all this research! We think of fat as storage for calories; however, it’s so much more than that. [02:25] What Is Fat? Fat is a complex endocrine organ that has multiple functions: Storing calories. Producing leptin – which has a great effect on our brains, our bones, and multiple organs. Creating adiponectin – which has a lot of impact on where our fat is stored. [03:25] What You Need to Know About Leptin Our fat produces this hormone called leptin. It's the biggest producer of leptin in the body, and fat releases it into the bloodstream. Once leptin goes to the bloodstream, it goes to your brain; it'll tell your brain that you’re overall satisfied. Basically, the brain will know that you are good, there's enough nutrition in the world, and you are okay. Leptin will also communicate with your muscles. It tells your muscles that it's okay to expend energy because you have enough nutrition. When we start to lose fat and begin to lose weight, say 10% or more, we reduce the amount of leptin we have. So, people who've lost 10% or more of their body weight respond enormously to food. Overall, once you've lost weight, you have to eat less than someone who's at that weight normally. It is why diets don’t work! [07:15] The Role of Adiponectin Adiponectin is more or less telling fat where to go. When we have dietary fat, adiponectin will guide the fat in our bloodstream to the right parts of our body. So there's different kinds of fat, there's white fat. It's right under the skin, it's in your thighs, buttocks, arms, and it's actually the safest places to deposit fat. If you're going to have some fat, those are the places to put it. There's also visceral fat; it sits underneath the stomach wall. It is the more dangerous fat that's nestled against the internal pancreas organ. There's brown fat – it burns calories instead of storing calories. Plus, there is beige fat – it that can turn brown when we exercise. Overall, adiponectin will help guide the fat you eat and put it into the right place. [09:20] How Exercise Can Help Adiponectin It’s around 20 hours of jogging a week to get adequate levels of adiponectin. That is when your body will start to shift around where your fat is. High-intensity interval training will also help raise your levels of adiponectin. You have to exercise a lot before it starts to affect you. It's best to work with your diet and do some exercise. Don't rely on exercise alone! [11:10] How To Get More Brown Fat Brown fat is actually used to create heat. We have brown fat around our heart; we have it around the clavicle areas and our spines. Having brown fat around those important areas is critical. These areas need to be heated even when we don't have exposure to cold. Beige fat, which was discovered last decade, is the fat that can turn brown through exercise. The more you exercise, the more you can increase your levels of brown fat. Exposure to cold will also increase your brown fat. [13:45] Women Produce 33% More Ghrelin Than Men After Exercise Women are designed just to have more fat. There are many reasons for this: Fat produces estrogen. Fat is linked to our reproducibility. When women exercise, they have a different reaction than men. Women’s bodies produce ghrelin after exercise, and it's a hormone that's released from your stomach. If you burn off 600 calories or so, women produce 33% more ghrelin than men. There's all kinds of dieting tips for women versus men because women are different. [17:30] How Women Can Lose Body Fat Women have to be really patient, and you have to understand where you are on the spectrum of fat. Everyone has an individual fat blueprint. You have to understand your fat, and you have to be really forgiving of yourself. Another issue with women is that they have something called dichotomous thinking. [22:05] The Role Of How To Use Intermittent Fasting For Fat Loss Our growth hormone peaks at night. So, fasting during the nighttime will benefit your body because eating mitigates growth hormone levels. You want growth hormones because it’s a great way to burn fat. If you sleep adequately, you're increasing your levels of leptin, which means you're going to be a little bit more satiated the next day during fasting. [26:30] Strategies To Keep Insulin At Bay Fiber will bring down insulin. Eating higher protein diets, lower carbs, and obviously not a ton of sugar will also help keep insulin at bay. Fasting enables you to manage insulin, and it helps with insulin sensitivity. [31:35] The Role of Genetics In Fat Storage To manage your fat, you have to work harder if you're at a genetic disadvantage. Some people tend to have a much higher appetite because they have a certain variant of the FTO gene. [35:30] How Environmental Factors Affect Fat The Four P’s: Pesticides Plastics Preservatives Parabens Overall, it's important to really watch what you eat and watch what you put on your body. Think about what's really in the food that you eat! [43:45] Testing Your Fat The best way to test your fat is a CT scan. Sadly, there is no easier way to find out. [48:20] Correlation Between Stress & Fat Stress is linked to abdominal fat. Exercise can be a perfect solution for people to lower their stress levels. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Jeff Matheson | Why the quality of your fats on keto matter! KKP: 237
Today, I am blessed to have here with me for the THIRD time Dr. Jeff Matheson. He is the co-founder of an all-natural migraine and headache centre, which promotes a non-narcotic approach to pain and headache management. Plus, Dr. Jeff Matheson is the co-founder and medical director of Pure Life Science. Dr. Jeff Matheson successfully practiced medicine in emergency departments across Canada and internationally, from Ontario, Newfoundland, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. He later was appointed Medical Director of Med-EmergInc in 1998, a company dedicated to staffing underserved hospitals in Canada. Dr. Matheson has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South East Asia and well as Oceania. According to Dr. Matheson, “traveling is the best education!” Dr. Matheson is an enthusiastic believer, as well as being immersed in other cultures. Similarly, if one does not listen to patients, one won’t hear what is necessary to understand the patient’s problem, i.e., the patient’s “culture.” It is with this ability to listen and empathize with the patients that Dr. Matheson allows an accurate diagnosis and develop sustainable solutions, optimizing health, and patient outcomes. If a solution cannot be determined, resources will be dedicated, through the involvement of alternative care specialists, ascertaining the best possible treatment for the patient by trying to treat causes, not just manage symptoms. In this episode, Dr. Jeff Matheson dives straight into how our body will produce energy through our cell membranes. If someone lacks energy, they usually think they have a hormone problem, meaning they need to take more hormones. However, that's not the case. Dr. Jeff Matheson explains how our hormones require a delicate balance; adding exogenous hormones will push our bodies out of balance. Instead, think about making different nutritional decisions to fix any hormone irregularities. Later, we discuss why keto and fasting are great for our cells and why fish oils aren't so great for them. Tune in as we chat all about Pure Life Omegas. Pure Form Omega: https://purelifescience.com/products/pure-form-omega-natural (Use code: Ben4) Pure Form Omega Liquid: https://purelifescience.com/products/pure-form-omega-liquid (Use code: Ben3) [01:15] How Our Body Will Produce Energy We're made up of about 70 trillion cells. Our body is great at communication, not only within each organ but between organs. All this communication is done through the cell membranes. The cell membrane is the basic divide between the outside world and the inside world – that’s where the fundamental communication takes place. All hormonal issues boil down to unhealthy cell membranes. [03:45] Hormones Aren’t That Simple Hormones need a delicate balance. If you start adding exogenous hormones into the system, you're going to push that system out of balance. How adding exogenous hormones into your body will affect you later on down the road is really difficult to predict. The whole hormonal cascade is extremely complex. When people correct their underlying nutritional issues, usually within six to nine months, they should be able to come off all exogenous hormones. [06:25] Bad Things That Develop In Our Cells The problem that will affect people first is mitochondrial issues. The mitochondria is a very high-energy place, it's supposed to produce lots of energy, but it can be screwed up fairly easily. The first thing that people feel is fatigue - that's that mitochondria sort of breaking down. Later down the road, genetic issues will show up, and that’s when you start getting cancers. [09:15] Why Your Supplements Might Not Be Working If you have an unhealthy cell membrane, things can't get in. On average, the cell membrane is 50% fat. If you have abnormal fats in that cell membrane, that membrane becomes more like plastic. When you put plastic wrap on something, not a lot of stuff gets through. So, you won't be able to get good things in very efficiently, and you won't be able to get the bad things out very efficiently. It's only a matter of time in that kind of situation until you have a total cell breakdown. [14:30] How Keto & Fasting Help Support The Cell Membrane The brain is about 70% fat – it operates on keto about seven to eleven times more efficiently than on carbohydrates. Fat-based energy production is way more efficient. Every single one of our ancestors did keto because their environment forced them into it. Once you achieve metabolic freedom and flexibility, your body can actually manufacture glucose from the fat and from protein. [18:20] Is Omega-6 Bad For You? Omega-6 isn’t bad for you; processed omega-6 is bad for you. Omega-6 has the same oxygen-binding capacity as hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is also intimately bound to the cell membrane; so, they work well together. After people take the proper amount of omega-6, they feel better. Plus, they will be able to feel it fast. [21:10] The Issue With Fish Oil Fish oil is high in EPA and DHA. They're what we call unsaturated are much more unstable. Not only is fish oil too unstable for us, it's not really needed in very large quantities. As it turns out, the brain only uses about seven and a half milligrams per day of EPA and DHA. People on a high dose of fish oil will have a problem with nose bleeds – it’s an obvious example of fluidity. If you overload yourself with fish oil, the mitochondria is only half as efficient as it should be. [34:55] Is Eating Fish Bad Too? You can certainly eat fish. When you cook it, you're destroying the fats anyways. It's the deepwater fish that are higher in EPA and DHA. Fish have a lot of good nutrition in it unless it's been contaminated with heavy metals and stuff. In Japan, where they eat mostly raw fish, they do have higher rates of hemorrhagic strokes. Fish that have fewer heavy metals are ones with a fast turnover like sardines. Tuna is a bad one because tuna will eat a lot of other fish and is lower on the food chain. [39:45] About Pure Form Pure Form Omega® Natural is an organic, plant-based, fish-free, cold-pressed, source of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids. It has been processed in a way that retains all the functions of the fat. It is a proprietary formulation made up of primrose oil, sunflower seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, and organic extra virgin coconut oil. These are all excellent sources of essential omega-6, along with organic flaxseed oil for essential omega-3, to obtain what we consider the ideal omega 3-6 combination. [45:25] Good vs. Bad Sunflower Oil If you look at the average sunflower oil, even organic sunflower oil that's on the shelf, it's not cold-pressed. Heat and oxygen are bad for fats. When you do cold pressure, you actually lose about 20% of the oil. You can put a processed oil on the shelf for years; it'll look the same. [51:20] Hangover Prevention Since the brain is 70% fat, you put all the good fats in the brain, you don't get headaches. Just another reason to love Pure Form Omega®. However, most people will feel a little tired the next day because alcohol disturbs your sleep pattern. Luckily, you won't have the headache and all the other stuff that accompanies those hangovers. With a 24 hour fast, MIT research shows you can reboot your digestive system with stem cells. According to research from MIT biologists, this age-related loss of stem cell function can be reversed by a 24-hour fast. The researchers found that fasting dramatically improves stem cells’ ability to regenerate, in both aged and young mice. “Fasting has many effects in the intestine, which include boosting regeneration as well as potential uses in any type of ailment that impinges on the intestine, such as infections or cancers,” said Omer Yilmaz, an MIT assistant professor of biology, a member of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, and one of the senior authors of the study. Dr. Stephanie is always looking to answer this question: what are the simplest things we can do today, to get better tomorrow? She is part geek, part magic, and it’s her mission to be the voice for women...Let’s get better together. In this episode, Dr. Stephanie Estima opens the show by explaining how she discovered that keto cycling could benefit your menstrual cycle. Period symptoms should not be considered normal. Instead, we should think of them as warning signs that our body needs something. Every symptom can be a vital sign of something more profound and more significant. Then, Dr. Stephanie dives deep into the menstrual cycle. She explains what you should be eating during each part of your cycle. Tune in as we talk about tracking your cycle and what happens in the menopausal stage of life. / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off [00:50] About Dr. Stephanie Estima Stephanie started in the keto space interested in the effects the diet can have on the brain and clarity of thought. So, Dr. Stephanie tried keto along with her patients. When couples did it together, the male partner would always have significant weight loss. While on the other hand, the female partner would see little weight loss despite eating the same type of diet. Personally, Dr. Stephanie enjoyed her focus and productivity. However, in the background, she was dealing with a lot of menstrual issues. At one point, Dr. Stephanie had a period and it actually went well. She realized that keto cycling could be beneficial for your menstrual cycle. Now, she loves getting her period! [06:45] What Your Period Says About Your Health “Your period is the lasso of truth.” -Dr. Stephanie Stephanie says that your menstrual cycle is going to tell you about the hormonal status of your body. The menstrual cycle is a vital sign for women. If you have heavy bleeding, clotting, and sleep disturbances – then those are signs that your body is trying to tell you things are not balanced. Women need to stop looking at their symptoms as punishment. Instead, women should listen to their bodies. Thick hair could mean too much testosterone. You want to identify common patterns that happen as it relates to hormonal dysfunction. [11:05] About The Betty Body Stephanie’s new book is called The Betty Body. You can order it here: https://amzn.to/2ZfwTOh
In the book, Stephanie dives into why women should stop dieting and take control of their hormones to feel amazing in their skin. A Betty epitomizes a modern-day queen, commonly associated with increased levels of self-worth (because she continues to create it). Stephanie likes to think about how to play the long game with women. In the book, she talks about how sex and orgasms are important things for women to think about. It improves all our vital signs, and most importantly, is a vehicle for self-healing. [15:45] Diving Into The Menstrual Cycle Week 1: When we think about the first week of our cycle, it’s the bleed week. Most hormones have gone on vacation during this time. FHS is still around (follicle-stimulating hormone). One lucky egg will be developed. So, it’s a wonderful week for vegetables. The first two weeks of your cycle are all about developing your follicle – you will be more resilient to restrict carbohydrates. It’s a nice week for fasting because we don’t have progesterone. Week 2: After the bleed week and into the second week, it’s the week before ovulation. Ovulation is the main event – it’s the whole point of your menstrual cycle. Whether or not you want a child, that’s what your body wants to do. In this week, we see estrogen. Estrogen is designed for growth because we want to develop the follicle. The other hormone that comes up is testosterone. In this week, your interest in sex should go up. Week 3: Week three happens after your ovulation. Now, your egg can hang around and wait for sperm. The entire hormonal landscape is going to change. Back off aggressive fasting this week. Give yourself flexibility- we are much more sensitive than our male counterparts. Add resistant starches to your diet during this week. Resistant starches are foods that will resist digestion. It cannot be broken down in the small intestine. Instead, they will go into the large intestine. Luckily, they don’t count toward your carbohydrate intake. Some examples of resistant starches: green bananas, green plantains, raw potatoes, cold rice, Week 4: Peak week! During a blood test this week, all of the things will be down. Relax on keto this week and pump up the calories. Get out of ketosis – eat squash, sweet potato, and fruit. [30:20] The Importance Of Listening To Our Body Listen to your body and what it is trying to tell you. If you really like to increase fat on a certain week, then do it. Stephanie only has best practices. However, every woman is different, unique, and beautiful. [42:15] Tracking Your Cycle Stephanie uses Clue to track her cycle. Check it out here: https://helloclue.com. The first thing you should do is get information about where you are in your cycle. [48:15] What Menopausal Women Need To Know Women in their menopausal stage can become more insulin resistant. The cells are not as sensitive to the effects of insulin. So, women will see an increase in blood glucose. Plus, muscles will also become resistant. It will actually take more for a muscle to grow when a woman is fifty and beyond. AND MUCH MORE! In this episode, Dr. Mindy focuses on fasting. We dive right into the most significant pitfalls women could be making in their fasting routine. First, you should step out of fasting around day twenty of your cycle. Also, don't forget to make yourself insulin resistant from day one to day ten of your period. Dr. Mindy also gives fasting tips for women who are in their post-menopausal phase of life. Later, Dr. Mindy goes deep into the six different stages of fasting. Tune in as we chat about the enemies of fasting and how you can solve all your fasting issues. Lastly, Dr. Mindy answers questions from the Keto Kampers. / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off [02:55] About The Fasting Circle Women love the idea of fasting – there are so many miracles that can happen when you fast. However, we need to honor our hormones, specifically our sex hormones. Men’s testosterone will come every couple of hours. Women get testosterone once a month. So, we have to fast very differently. The Fasting Circle will help women navigate the fasting experience. Fasting is powerful; we have to do it thoughtfully.
[06:30] The Dangers Of Fasting Too Much The first danger is progesterone. You make the most progesterone around day twenty of your cycle. If you are in a low-glycemic state, then it won’t make progesterone very proficient. Fasts will cause cortisol – it’s fine during the front half of the cycle. When you need to make progesterone, you don’t want that stress. So, step out of fasting around day twenty of your cycle. During this time, you should slow life down and relax. You want to honor that your body is trying to make progesterone. Make yourself insulin resistant from day one to day ten of your period. You want to go keto and make yourself insulin resistant during this time. Use keto and fasting during this time (totally opposite of day twenty). [11:50] Fasting For Post-Menopausal Women If you are over forty, you have an organ that is shutting down (your ovaries). No other time in your life will you have an organ shutting down. Your ovaries will make hormones. Well, your body still has to make it so your adrenal glands will take over. We are not made to be permanent fat burners. We are made for metabolic switching. As women get on the other side of menopause, we have to build our hormones back up. [16:20] About The 5-1-1 Rule 5 days of fasting and keto. 1 day of an extended fast (24 hours). 1 day a week of no fasting. Instead, you should be feasting. We are meant for metabolic switching; we are not meant to be permanent fat burners. Women need to go into hormone building times. That’s when we can lean into foods likes squashes, beans, and quinoa. Women should feel free to move in and out of ketosis. [20:15] The Six Styles Of Fasting There are six styles of fasting: Intermittent Fast: 13 – 15 hours. Autophagy Fast: 17 hours. This is when autophagy kicks in. So, the cells start to understand that it needs to clean up their act. It’s great for detox! Gut Reset: 24 hours. This is an incredible fast for people with gut dysbiosis. Fat Burner Fast: 36 hours. You will access toxins and breakdown fat more efficiently at 36 hours. Dopamine Reset: 48 hours. We lose our sensitivity to dopamine over time. We are getting way too much dopamine. For instance, we can order food, binge watch TV, and scroll through social media. Eating all day long will make it so that our dopamine receptor sites are getting blocked. So, we need to make ourselves more sensitive. Immunity Fast: 72 hours. This fast will reboot stem cells – especially when it comes to white blood cells. It has been known as a way to kill cancer cells. [45:00] Fats That Make It Hard To Fast When people start fasting, they come from the standard American diet. These people are mostly insulin resistant. Only 12% of Americans are insulin sensitive. The number one thing that makes you insulin resistant is bad fats. The goal of fasting is to get you out of insulin resistance. If the cell is junked up with bad fats, then fasting will be challenging. The enemy of fasting is bad oils! [52:35] Toxins Are Another Enemy Of Fasting Your fat stores will have excess. When you lose weight, toxins will release into your system. We need to go in and out of detox. Mindy says that we shouldn’t avoid fasting because of symptoms. Instead, we should honor our symptoms and learn how to read them. As you’re fasting, make sure you are opening up your detox pathways. You should be sweating and massaging different parts of your body. The more toxins you have, the harder it may be to get fat adapted and get ketones. [59:20] Helping Your Hair Grow Back The solution to your fasting challenges will be variation. Most of us are already operating from a place of mineral deficiency. Our soil is not giving us enough minerals as it did thirty years ago. If you haven’t already, check out Kiss The Ground: https://kisstheground.com. Most likely, you are mineral deficient, so add minerals back into your diet. [62:55] Leslie McMillan: How Long Is Too Long To Stay In High Ketosis? What are you trying to accomplish? We can get obsessed with our ketones and blood sugar. If you don’t have a cancer diagnosis, then you should stay in high ketosis for 80% of the time and 20% of your time being a sugar burner. [66:30] Katie: How To Fix Gut Health? You have to mix up fasts for your body – it could be the reason that you’re not losing weight. Lean into progesterone foods like squash and potatoes. Vivica Menegaz |The best and worst foods for your body KKP: 233
Today, I am blessed to have here with me a certified whole-food nutritionist, blogger, published author, and one of the leading voices advocating for a food-based approach to healing, Vivica Menegaz. Vivica was the first to use the now popular expression “Keto Paleo” to describe her lifestyle and eating habits. She is the founder of the “The Healing Foods Method’ – a 14-week online nutrition program where she works 1-on-1 with clients to turn their health around utilizing a therapeutic ketogenic diet for healing (keto paleo). Tracing back to her Italian origins, Vivica is a passionate cook whose love of healing food has been shared with millions through her blog, “The Nourished Caveman.” While living in Northern California, pursuing her self-sufficiency dreams and practice of nutrition, Vivica’s life came to a turning point when she discovered she was pre-diabetic. The nourishing Paleo foods she had been advocating are not the whole solution to modern health problems. Fueled by this discovery, Vivica dove into research and found the ketogenic diet. It was love at the first bite. Within the first couple of months, her blood glucose levels dropped, she shed excess weight, her brain fog cleared up, and her energy levels skyrocketed. After a year of successful keto paleo lifestyle, Vivica’s own health journey took another turn as she was now diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism. Again she had to rely on her studies and practical applications to resolve those challenges, and that is how she became the first holistic nutritionist to successfully utilize a ketogenic approach as the foundation to endocrine rebalancing. She has made it her mission to help others reclaim their health and quality of life. Vivica is also the author of three cookbooks: “The Ultimate Paleo Cookbook” 2015, together with nine other bloggers, and “The Big Book Of Fat Bombs” in 2016. Her latest book: “The Keto Paleo Kitchen,” was released in December 2017. In this episode, Vivica Menegaz dives deep into her roots and how she grew up eating only the best and fresh meats. Then, Vivica reveals what the media has wrong about Covid. Why aren’t we talking about the immune system, the gut, and getting out in nature? That’s what will actually help you overcome this virus – we aren’t going to get rid of it! Then, Vivica explains how your healing journey may lead you to ayahuasca. Plus, we chat about how Vivica found the keto lifestyle, and we talk all about Vivica’s cookbooks. / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off [00:35] About Vivica Menegaz Growing up, Vivica ate loads of fresh meat. As she traveled the world, Vivica would explore local and native foods. Vivica was following her dreams of practicing nutrition. However, she discovered that she was pre-diabetic. After working with Dr. Deborah Penner, her mentor, she was first introduced to a ketogenic diet when only a handful of people were writing or talking about it. Vivica’s therapeutic approach to food, lifestyle, and supplementation, utilizes the healing power of nutrition and mindset to address the incapacitating symptoms of many lifestyle-diseases that have plagued our modern lives. [10:15] Wrapping Our Heads Around Covid There is so much misinformation about Covid. As a practitioner, Vivica is looking for trustworthy resources. However, there’s not a lot out there! Finally, we understand how Covid makes people sick and who it makes sick. There are levels of sickness that we cannot treat as nutritionists. Eventually, people will need to go to a hospital. However, most people will benefit from nutritionists. A person with an intact immune system whose microbiome has resilience will not be affected by the ‘dangerous’ virus. In order for the virus to be dangerous, there needs to be microcirculation problems and metabolism issues. These conditions are making all the difference. Covid could actually benefit you by making your body stronger. A small percentage of people need to be quarantined, but that’s not the majority of us! The real virus is FEAR. [17:20] Using Plants To Heal Ayahuasca is the main plant that Vivica uses to heal. Practicing as a nutritionist, people would just heal from diet changes. However, some people would do everything right but they wouldn’t heal. It would drive Vivica insane! She wants all her patients to get better and heal everything. When they don’t heal correctly, Vivica takes it personally. Now, Vivica likes to find the deep cause of diseases. Her goal is to have as holistic practice where she can treat people as fully human. [22:10] Diving Into The Keto Lifestyle Seven years ago, when you said ketosis, people had no idea what you were talking about. Ketosis is the opposite of insulin resistance, so Vivica knew she needed to be in ketosis. You could say Vivica was an early adopter and researcher for keto. For Vivica, her focus had always been on whole, unprocessed foods as in the Paleo diet. However, she used her personal diabetic challenge as fuel for her research in the ketogenic diet to help Vivica control her blood sugar and hormonal issues. There is no cookie-cutter approach to health – you have to experiment and see how it works for you. [38:15] The Essential Carnivore Diet Cookbook There are a few different categories for the carnivore diet: Purist (meat and salt). This diet is for people who have severe gut issues. We are talking about clean meat, which is the least toxic food on the planet. You can find all the nutrients you need in clean meat. It’s an elimination diet and not meant to be done for extended periods of time. Ancestral (includes fruit and honey). What would a hunter and gather eat? It’s seasonal fruit and meat. Occasionally there would be nuts, but not often. You can’t use olive oil on the carnivore diet, so Vivica uses bone marrow fat. Cookbooks are helpful for people who have no idea how to make high-fat meals. Nutrient-dense healing food is what will heal our bodies. AND MUCH MORE! 5 ways to boost your metabolism - Ben Azadi KKP: 232
In this episode you'll learn how to increase metabolism so you can lose weight fast. Yes, there's metabolism boosting foods that can speed up your metabolism, you'll learn about these foods and more. 💻 Free Keto Diet Masterclass ➡️ http://www.ketosismasterclass.com 🎁 KETO KAMP BLUEPRINT: http://www.ketokampblueprint.com 🎥 Keto Series: https://bit.ly/3qd1bxg / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off The first way to boost your metabolism is with high intensity interval training. A great boost metabolism workout consists of squats, push ups, burpees, shoulder press and other compound movement. Research examining the effects of HIIE has produced preliminary evidence to suggest that HIIE can result in modest reductions in subcutaneous and abdominal body fat in young normal weight and slightly overweight males and females. Studies using overweight male and female type 2 diabetic individuals have shown greater reductions in subcutaneous and abdominal fat. The mechanisms underlying the fat reduction induced by HIIE, however, are undetermined but may include HIIE-induced fat oxidation during and after exercise and suppressed appetite. Regular HIIE has been shown to significantly increase both aerobic and anaerobic fitness and HIIE also significantly lowers insulin resistance and results in increases in skeletal muscle capacity for fatty acid oxidation and glycolytic enzyme content. Study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti... The second that will teach you how to boost metabolism is with intermittent fasting. Skipping a meal does not slow down your metabolism, it does the complete opposite! This study showed a 13% increase in the metabolic rate after 4 days of fasting. https://thefastingmethod.com/fix-brok... Practice an 18/6 daily schedule with two meals inside your 6 hour eating window. The method for teaching you how to speed up metabolism is quality sleep. Most of your fat burning hormones are activated during delta sleep. This study showed sleep curtailment decreased the fraction of weight lost as fat by 55% (1.4 vs. 0.6 kg with 8.5 vs. 5.5-h sleep opportunity, P=0.043) and increased the loss of fat-free body mass by 60% (1.5 vs. 2.4 kg, P=0.002). This was accompanied by markers of enhanced neuroendocrine adaptation to caloric restriction, increased hunger, and a shift in relative substrate utilization towards oxidation of less fat. Get at least 8 hours of quality sleep each night. Visit http://www.ketokampkit.com to check out my favorite sleep resources for weight loss. The fourth way to increase metabolism is with keto flexing. The keto diet consists of metabolism boosting foods which keep your fat storage hormone insulin low. I recommend 60 days of strict keto, and then start flexing. You can learn more about keto with my upcoming keto diet masterclass http://www.ketosismasterclass.com The last tip is to replace alcohol with tea for at least 28 days. Alcohol is a poison to the body, the liver needs to detox it. The worst offenders are beer and wine. According to Dr Zach Bush, the avg California wine has 64 herbicides & pesticides. According to Maria Emmerich's research, “Alcohol stimulates appetite and decrease your testosterone levels for up to 24 hours and increases estrogen by 300%. The infamous “beer belly” is really just an “estrogen belly.” Biochemically, the higher your level of estrogen is, the more readily you absorb alcohol, but the slower you break it down.” https://mariamindbodyhealth.com/how-t... If/when you do drink, stick with tequila or whiskey instead of wine and beer. 💻 Free Keto Diet Masterclass ➡️ http://www.ketosismasterclass.com 🎁 KETO KAMP BLUEPRINT: http://www.ketokampblueprint.com 🎥 Keto Series: https://bit.ly/3qd1bxg / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off Text me the words Toxicity to +1 (786) 364-5002 *Some Links Are Affiliates* // F O L L O W ▸ instagram | @thebenazadi | http://bit.ly/2B1NXKW ▸ facebook | /thebenazadi | http://bit.ly/2BVvvW6 ▸ twitter | @thebenazadi http://bit.ly/2USE0so ▸clubhouse | @thebenazadi Disclaimer: This podcast is for information purposes only. Reed Davis | How to identify healing opportunities KKP: 231
Today, I am blessed to have here an expert in pathogens, food sensitivity testing, and a wide range of related health problems, Reed Davis. Over 20 years ago, Reed recognized people were caught in a “cycle of trial and error,” and he committed to being the last person they needed to see. While working with top leaders in alternative medicine, he ran thousands of labs on thousands of people and learned to identify “healing opportunities.” Using all-natural, drug-free protocols, Reed made observations about who got better and who didn’t, codifying which “general principles of health building” would outperform “specific treatments” being provided by standard and even alternative medicine. And through this work, he then developed the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Certification Course and D.R.E.S.S. for Health Success Protocol® to educate and empower as many people as possible about how to get well and stay well naturally, so they, in turn, may empower others to do the same. Using his experience as an Environmental Paralegal, training as a Certified Nutritional Therapist and Fitness Coach, he served as the Health Director and Case Manager at the Better Health & Wellness Center in Poway, California for over 10 years. Reed’s experience in these areas served as the foundation for the development of the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Course, where he has taught nearly 3,000 FDN trainees and graduates in over 50 countries. In this episode, Reed Davis opens the show describing the inspiration behind his career in the health coaching industry. Reed likes to educate people on how to become their own health detective. A massive mistake that health detectives make is that they only run one test based on their symptoms. Instead, we should be running multiple tests to finding the root cause of our symptoms. Plus, we talk about Reed's favorite hormone tests, and Reed reveals the truth behind adrenal fatigue. Tune in as we dive into how our bodies are capable of healing themselves. / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. ☕️ Purity Coffee: http//:www.ketokampcoffee.com, use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off Text me: +1 (786) 364-5002 ☣️ Join my 90 day group detox program. Work with Ben Azadi, Dr Daniel Pompa, & Dr Mindy Pelz & other detox specialist: http://www.ketokampdetox.com [00:30] About Reed Davis Reed worked as an Environmental Paralegal. When he saw how bad the environment was, he wondered what was going on with the people living in this environment. So, he turned his attention less on the planet and more on humans. Working at a clinic, Reed fell in love with working on patients. Eventually, Reed learned how to do labs, and he fell even more in love with the clinical side of work. Now, Reed has at home programs. However, Reed is not a physician, so he has to be careful not to diagnose people. Yet, he can still help people by giving them things to do at home. [10:30] The Mistake Health Detectives Are Making Health detectives often only run one test based on their symptoms. For instance, if you only run a thyroid test, then you could be missing something even more significant. Reed thinks health detectives should be looking at all factors and healing opportunities. There isn’t just one cause; instead, there are going to be a bunch of causes. [16:20] Reed’s Favorite Hormone Tests For hormones, Reed Davis likes to measure cortisol. Cortisol doesn’t work well with blood. No one is going to draw their blood four different times during the day. So, he wants to do something convenient like saliva and urine. Whatever information they get, then they can create benchmarks. Down the road, that person can retest, and they will see how their hormones change. When people are compliant, they get results! [17:45] Other Tests That Reed Likes To Utilize Bodily fluids and hair tests are also useful. There are always new tests coming out for health coaches. When someone has a health complaint, they go to the doctor and get standard blood work done. However, standard blood work doesn’t say much about the person. Plus, the doctor will try and fix the symptoms rather than finding the cause. [22:30] The Truth Behind Adrenal Fatigue Adrenals aren’t getting tired; they are getting the signals mixed up. There are four different layers behind the adrenals that produce different substances. Cortisol is produced in the adrenals. When you are stressed, then you should have cortisol. That way, there is power for fight or flight. The adrenals will get messages from the brain. Adrenals are very sensitive, and the environment can mess with them. [25:40] All About Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) Reed didn’t come up with FDN until he had to name his work. The body is designed perfectly; our body knows what it needs to do. So, it’s about the function being natural and healthy. Diagnostic is not medical; it’s diagnostic by nature because Reed will look at data. If you’re ready to help others or yourself on a deeper level, to enhance your skillset and set yourself apart from other certified health coaches and professionals, and fix what is wrong with your clients or yourself… apply to FDN: http://fdn.today/ketokamp
[40:00] Our Bodies Can Heal Point “A” is how you show up, but point “B” is not the end of all your problems. Instead, FDN wants to point you in the right direction and get you on the path to true health. If you have an extreme medical problem, then you will need ongoing oversight from a physician. Physicians meet needs, and health coaches meet needs. The trick is to focus on the needs. Prevention is a huge factor for our health. AND MUCH MORE! The real cause of diabetes, obesity and disease - Ben Azadi KKP: 230
If you've been stuck at a weight loss plateau, and stopped getting the results you want on keto, intermittent fasting or any approach, this episode explains why. Apply for my 3-month detox program: http://www.ketokampdetox.com Here are the statistics on our failing health... 1 out of 3 women is diagnosed with cancer 1 out of 2 men is diagnosed with cancer 60% of Americans are pre-diabetic or diabetic By 2032, it's predicated that 1 in 2 children will be born on the autism spectrum.
