Carine Clark: Celebrating Cancer

At 48 years of age, Carine Clark was given a 20 percent chance of surviving ovarian cancer. But Carine wasn’t ready to be done—she didn't know it, but she had yet to become one of the first female chief executives of a Utah tech company and would later be named “Utah Business” magazine’s CEO of the Year. What Carine did know is that she had two sons that she really wanted to raise after she struggled with infertility for years. So Carine gave cancer everything she had to give—and she’s still here. On this week’s episode, Carine explains why her cancer diagnosis is worth celebrating with her family each year, and how her faith has played an integral role in her journey. 2:28- Celebrating the Day of Diagnosis 4:43- Everything In Extremes 8:28- Part of the 20 Percent 11:31- “Pre-Worry” and Pre-existence 15:03- Making Promises 22:27- The Master’s Plan 27:18- Not Wasting Cancer 29:38- A Sacrifice of Time 35:14- “He Will Never Enable Us To Be Weak” 37:54- Knowing You’re Going To Die 42:23- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  “When things don’t go your way, you gotta say thank you.”    [2:18 PM] Morgan Jones For show note links:   Articles about Carine: https://www.deseret.com/2017/4/2/20609588/how-utah-business-leaders-overcame-adversity-on-the-path-to-success Fireside with Carine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7mX70u_bkM Carine on Latter-day Saint MBA podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/carine-strom-clark/id1564093407?i=1000519499552 Carine on Whitney Johnson's Disrupt Yourself podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/carine-clark-tougher-than-we-know/id1156483471?i=1000416143532 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-in/id1439975046?i=1000504504921   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kent and Kathryn Colton: ‘The Temple’ in Washington, DC.

In March, an architectural historian wrote on Twitter, “Is there a building in the US whose siting and form better address the speed and experience of interstate highways than the Washington D.C. Temple? The way it is revealed, perfectly centered, after cresting a hill is really genius move.” The building is so beloved that the area’s evening news simply calls it “the Temple.” For years, the inspiring structure has meant so much to so many—including those who have never been able to go inside. But for the next month, they can. On this week’s episode, we talk with the co-chairs of the Washington D.C. Steve Young: An Introduction to the Law of Love

A football field is not usually considered a place of love. But it was during his time playing for the NFL that Steve Young began to explore what he now calls the law of love. He realized that relationships based on the expectation of receiving something in return eventually rot, but when we bring long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, and love unfeigned to our relationships—that’s when the magic happens. 2:29- What Is the Law of Love?  4:45- Steve Young: The Sunday School Teacher 8:17- An Undefeated Love on the Football Field 18:49- A Spirit of Abundance 26:00- Neal A. Kacey McCallister: Without Any Reservation

Ed and Wanda Willis: From Black Panthers to Latter-day Saints

Ed Willis’s life began in a place literally called “The Lower Bottom.” Drugs, Alcohol, Prostitution—you name it, and it could be found in the lower bottom. Ed was always searching for something. It was this searching that led him to become a Black Panther. Ultimately, Ed can now see that the dignity he was seeking all along could be found in understanding that he is a child of God. On this week’s episode, Ed and his wife, Wanda, share how their membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints changed their lives.  "No matter what people might think of me, I'm on my way to purity, because that's the way God wants it. He wants me back, just like He wants everybody else back." Dave and Julie Grygla: Accepting What God Is Willing To Give

Dave and Julie had six kids in three years: triplets, twins, and a baby boy. As parents, this couple's journey has been filled with joys and triumphs—many of which they struggle to remember in the blur of it all—as well as tears and feelings of inadequacy. But as their triplets turn eight and are baptized, the couple reflects on one of their greatest learning moments: that of true submission to what God is willing to give. “God does not care about my identity as a former runner, as a former professor, or any of those things. The identity that He cares most about is, Am I a follower of Jesus Christ? Do I take care of my fellow man?” Show Notes:  2:34- As Many As He’ll Send 6:34- 6 Kids In 3 Years 13:03- Sent To An Extended Family 18:50- Get Behind Me 25:44- Converted To Motherhood 31:02- A Mother’s Presence 36:32- Forever Changed 48:31- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Thomas B. Griffith: Politics, Religion, and the Laboratory of Christian Living

In his April 2021 general conference talk, President Dallin H. Oaks made a simple yet profound statement: "On contested issues, we should seek to moderate and unify." In a world that often feels so divided, coming together can feel close to impossible. But Judge Thomas B. Griffith, who was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals in 2005, is a believer that it is possible and the "how" is found within the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this week's episode, Judge Griffith discusses how to bring that gospel perspective as we engage in our communities. "Our political allegiances need to be way down the list in terms of importance. Our allegiance to the Savior and His work needs to be at the top of the list." Taylor Ricks: Noticing the People Hidden in the Pages

Taylor Ricks has often taken comfort in not just the stars of scripture stories, but also those characters who are so quietly present that we may not even notice them. Perhaps it’s because she has never felt like the star of the show herself. Or because there have been moments where she has wished no one would notice her at all. Unnamed scripture heroes have become trusted friends to Taylor—friends who have gotten her through incredibly difficult times. On this week’s episode, Taylor introduces us to a few of these friends and shares why they matter so much to her. “For me, the first part of being all in the gospel of Jesus Christ is finding Christ all in His gospel.”  Show Notes:  2:09- The Lad With the Loaves and Fishes 4:55- Quiet Heroes 8:09- Through the Breaking 12:26- Sitting With Others 15:12- The Target of Racism and Bullying 21:31- The People Who Prayed for Alma the Younger 25:24- Adoption and Being Chosen 30:47- Inclusion at Church 35:27- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
