How to Set Up Your Claim for Success With the Right Date of Loss - Public Adjuster Basics The date of loss is a critical piece of information that public adjusters rely on to help their clients receive fair compensation for their losses. Most homeowners or untrained public adjusters aren’t prepared during the first conversation with the insurance agent, and they might say something that hurts the claim. For example, it is perfectly acceptable to put the date of discovery as the date of the loss if your client hadn’t noticed a pinhole leak before the damage became significant. You only have to argue the client couldn't have noticed the damage sooner! But if you say the damage has been there for a while, you are severely cutting your chances.
