67: 7 Dos and Don'ts After Graduating Teacher Training

Join the waitlist for the Quietmind Yoga Teacher Training at http://www.quietmind.yoga/ytt Today’s topic comes from my discussion with my mentee Cait Rumak in Staten Island. She is nearing the end of our time working together and asked what I recommend doing after she is finished. Today I’ll share what I did and what I’ve noticed that successful teachers do after finishing Yoga Teacher Training. I’ll also share what NOT to do! DONT teach yoga to everyone lose the momentum stop teaching just go into more trainings without implementing anything stop being a student try to rush your process be harsh on yourself DO Be a yogi, rather than teaching yoga Keep the momentum going; volunteer, clean the floors, be in the community, create gatherings, etc Start teaching at least once a week keep implementing what you learn from each training always have a next training, workshop, mentorship, retreat or course you’re doing and things on the horizon Always think long term Approach your own path as a student with as much kindness and care as you would teaching approach teaching your students You can watch the video for this episode on the new Yoga Teacher Training YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwNq1aoW2zpcivCSG50O9HQ Thanks for listening! 64: Why I Don't Recommend Teaching "Peak Poses"

Today's episode comes from a discussion with a student in the Quietmind Yoga Teacher Training about "Peak Poses." This is a common way of teaching that involves building up to an intermediate or advanced pose within a class. There are many pros and cons to consider with this and I'll share what I found after experimenting with this approach many times over the years and encourage you to build on my experience to find what works best for you.  Join the waiting list for the next Quietmind Yoga Teacher Training at http://www.quietmind.yoga/ytt Get the new free Essential Yoga Poses guide at http://www.quietmind.yoga/poseguide Keywords: Yoga Teachers, Yoga Teacher, YTT, Asana, Postures, Poses, Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Poses, Maslow, Mind/Body, Yoga History, Quietmind Yoga, QYTT

63 Asana: What Are We Doing When We Practice Postures?

Get the free guide of essential cues at http://www.quietmind.yoga/cues  Modern life pulls our energy in a million directions. Overwhelm, burn out, feeling distracted and scattered are normal side effects of living our modern fast paced, mostly online lives. I believe yoga and particularly asana practice has become so popular in recent years not because of the common perception that people are focused on their outward appearance, but because asana is an invitation away from the noise into the clear, calm center underneath all the noise.  In this episode I share a personal experience of realizing just how ungrounded I was and just how much asana could be the thing to help get me back 'down to earth' and grounded. I'll share three things that asana provides that is unlike nearly any other physical movement or practice and why it can be the perfect remedy to our modern lifestyles. I'll share about integrating the ancient source texts of yoga with modern neuroscience and understanding of trauma informed embodiment practices. This helps make asana far more than just a performance of flexibility, but an opportunity to be centered and embodied moment to moment.  Join the waiting list for the next Quietmind Yoga Teacher Training at http://www.quietmind.yoga/ytt Keywords: Yoga Teachers, Yoga Teacher, YTT, Asana, Postures, Poses, Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Poses, Maslow, Mind/Body, Yoga History, Quietmind Yoga, QYTT
