Episode 130: From Avoidance to Action with Brainspotting
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in FL, a certified EMDR therapist, and a Certified Brainspotting Therapist as well as a Certified Brainspotting Consultant. By many standards, my private practice, which I opened in 2006, was highly successful from the very beginning, but the reality is that it was slowly affecting my health. Seeing 30+ clients a week in a trauma specialty caught up with me after 7 years of non-stop 8 clients-a-day days. After staying in denial and avoiding the truth, my body forced me to make some drastic changes in my private practice so I could be healthy and continue to provide exceptional therapy to my clients. As a result of my journey through the struggles of creating the practice that works for me, I began doing business consulting with other driven, passionate solopreneurs who are ready to take control of their practices and their lives. As a Brainspotting practitioner, I used Brainspotting to help me work through a ton of my own head trash around getting off of insurance, but it was when I sought the help of a colleague for a Brainspotting session to help me work through my biggest private practice fear that I was able to make the successful leap into a fully self pay practice. I had been coaching business owners for several years to help them make important shifts in their own businesses, and when I could finally come up for air long enough to think and do some vision planning, I knew I wanted to help other solo and small practice professionals work through their blocks with Brainspotting--just as I had done with my colleague. Now, I have both a private therapy practice and a business coaching practice, where I get to witness amazing transformations every day. I've always loved my work, but now that I have balance, clarity, and the bandwidth to be there fully present for each one of my clients, each and every session, the transformations I get to witness are ineffable! As a Brainspotting Consultant, I also get to help other Brainspotting therapists get certified in Brainspotting, and we also explore how their practice structure impacts their ability to be fully present with their clients. To give back to my local and therapy communities, I serve on the Board of two different 501(c)3 non profits that I am happy to talk more about if there is time!
