Luke Malek is an attorney with Smith + Malek and has worked alongside the medical field in and out Idaho for years. He is intimately aware of the issues Idaho is facing with attracting doctors, many of which are centered around the needs of all families and not medicine, like housing affordability, public safety, and public schools. Idaho has very few medical education and residency options, so we have to attract established doctors to move here, and when considering the state from a life and family perspective, many do not come. Luke came in to explain why. Tech in Idaho Education & Porcupine Races in Council with Jeff Carlson
Dr. Jeff Carlson is a seasoned Ed. Tech leader and came in to speak about the integration and future of tech in the Idaho education system. There are many problems emerging in this field, most notably recently with AI, but there are other more basic questions about value and even funding. Many of the 1-1 tech systems were purchased during the 2020 pandemic using one time funding, and now many schools are saying they can’t live without the devices that are on the verge of obsolescence. What we do moving forward is a huge question. Preserving Idaho's Lands for Industry and Idahoans with Gretchen Hyde
Gretchen Hyde is the Executive Director of the Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission and works closely across industries to promote, sustain, and educate all about the fundamental necessity of rangeland in Idaho. Our ranching industry benefits Idahoans in so many ways, not the least of which is fire mitigation and land management. Grazing operations often engage areas of land not habitable by basic communities and not accessible to the average person. These areas must be managed properly lest we enter into even worse fire seasons than we’ve seen in the past. Understanding the industry and its people is crucial for the continuation of an Idaho that we know and love.
