As Perrin arrives in Tear with Moiraine, Lan, and Loial, we get a detailed and thoughtful of description of the scents of the city from his perspective. The Darkness is palpable. As luck would have it, Perrin finds a personal meditative refuge from all the nightmares and fear, in a blacksmith's shop near where they're staying. After a day of hard work, the craftsman gives Perrin a gift for his efforts, a long handled hammer, in hopes to keep the young man in the trade; that he'll always remember it. Mother Guenna introduces Juilin Sandar to the Hunters Three. We talk about the differentiation between the terms thief-taker and thief-catcher, something that Juilin cares about. The little group makes their deal. As Mat and Thom arrive in Tear, a lightning flash illuminates the very home Nynaeve, Egwene, and Elayne are staying in, but Mat won't find it until Thom gets so sick he's forced to find a healer for his friend. The Hunters Three arrive in Tear. Nynaeve has the bright idea to stay in no inn, but instead with a local healer in attempt to make the three women harder to find. Mother Guenna is basically in older version of Nynaeve, and they hit it off famously. Egwene has had a LONG list of prophetic dreams that we'll discuss one by one, it's a shame she doesn't know how to interpret them yet because some of them enlighten us about events that happen as far out as the last battle. The women agree to hide their true identities from any Tairens they meet. When Nynaeve tells Mother Guenna what she can about their situation, the older woman has an idea. Tallanvor admonishes the guard who sent Mat away while they're on their way out. When Mat returns to the Queen's Blessing, he abruptly announces that he'll be leaving for Tear as soon as he can pack his bags and get some food in his stomach. In the conversation that ensues, Master Gil gives Mat some information about Lord Gaebril, Thom gives him some advice, Mat reveals what he learned in the palace, and Thom ultimately agrees to travel to Tear with Mat to warn the Hunters Three about the price on their heads. Mat and Thom arrive in Caemlyn. Mat seems very impressed by it's scale, and maybe more so by it's wealth. Thom of course, heads straight to the Queen's Blessing, but Mat rides to the palace eager to be rid of Elayne's letter to Morgase. Mat sneaks through the Palace's gardens and right up to some occupied rooms, while waiting for a guard to walk past him, he overhears two men speaking about Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne. One is instructing the other to assassinate the hunters three. Just as he is considering walking into one of the doors, Tallanvor, one of Morgase's last loyal men, steps out of it. Moiraine's little group, Faile being the newest addition, are fleeing Illian. She believes that Sammael knows where they are, and they know Rand is on his way to Tear. Mat and Thom are caught between towns, and make a primitive camp near the road they're traveling down, also on their way south. A group of Darkfriends approach them in the night; one of the men had tried to kill them before, but escaped the last time. He was not so lucky on his second try. Lan is curious as to how Perrin sensed the Grey Men before he or Moiraine could. When Lan brings Perrin and Loial outside to scout around the area, he finds a Darkhound's track in some stone, and Perrin smells them nearby. We're able to deduce that Sammael sent the hounds to track them, but Ishamael sent the Gray Men to destroy them. Moiraine informs her group that it's time to run again, toward Tear, and destiny. We learn that a group of Ogier stone masons have left the city recently without finishing their work. Moiraine explains that Ogier are sensitive to some things, and whatever is happening in this city has driven them away, not to mention darkening the mood of it's citizens through some use of Tel'aran'rhiod. When the party stops at an inn named 'Easing the Badger' a large group of graymen enter intending to assassinate Perrin. Luckily, Perrin senses what they are before even Lan or Moiraine do. The party makes quick work of the Shadowspawn. Moiraine later confirms that the Forsaken Sammael has established himself in Illian, but he was not the one who sent the graymen. Moiraine tests Faile's mettle to verify she's the falcon Min saw, and whether she's pulled into Perrin's web. Although, Moiraine is as furious as an Aes Sedai gets, everyone is stepping lightly around her. Shortly after he party arrives in Illian, Moiraine allows Faile into her group. Moiraine makes her swear to obey her, and be satisfied with knowing only what she tells Faile about what they're doing. Now, Faile is part of it too, whether she wants to be or not. As the Aiel women explain why they’ve crossed the Dragon Wall, the three wetlander women learn more about Rand’s past. Something at least Nynaeve already suspected. As the Maidens of the Spear learn more about their counter-parts’ mission, it becomes evident to them that these women are on the trail on what the Aiel want, the Car’a’carn, and victory against the Shadow. Now the Aiel contingent of Aiel can be sure it will begin in Tear, in the Heart of the Stone. They know now, that these women of the White Tower must be followed. When the hunters three are attacked and taken prisoner to be sold to a group of myrddraal, their new Aiel friends come streaming like black-veiled death to their aid.
