The Nicole Sandler Show
Nicole Sandler
Nicole Sandler has worked in radio her entire adult life. After a successful career in music radio in NY and Los Angeles (WPLJ, KLOS, KSCA and others), she returned to talk radio to host mornings on then-progressive talk WINZ/Miami. After a flip to sports, she moved to Air America Radio for a nightly show. When AAR went off the air on Jan 21, 2010, Nicole Sandler moved online where she continues to question authority daily at nicolesandler.com.

20230120 Nicole Sandler Show - (Fixed Audio) Big Anniversary Weekend and Dave Mason Too!
We have a busy show planned for today. One of the greats of Rock & Roll is today's featured guest!
Dave Mason [http://davemasonmusic.com/] has been making music since he was 16. He's now 76, so that's a lot of music.
His first big break came as a founding member of Traffic, alongside Steve Winwood. He played on records by greats including Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and lots of others, and has had a successful solo career, penning song that were hits for others as himself.
With a memoir coming out in May, Dave Mason is still touring. His new "Endgangered Species" Tour [https://www.davemasonmusic.com/tour-info] kicked off last night in Atlanta. He's down in Ft. Lauderdale on Wed!
So we'll wrap up the week with Dave Mason today.
But first, a look back at this weekend in history.
Today is the 2nd anniversary of Joe Biden's inauguration,.
Tomorrow marks a sad day for freedom of speech. Ten years ago, on January 21, 2013, SCOTUS changed everything with their awful Citizens United ruling, and Air America Radio ended its run on the airwaves. We'll begin the show with a visit from the man who mostly put Air America together and on the air, Jon Sinton. He's the same guy who runs Progressive Voices [http://progressivevoices.com/] today.
Sunday, January 22 marks the 50th anniversary of SCOTUS ruling in Roe v Wade that legalized abortion until fetal viability. The new Extreme Court just struck that down... what a way to celebrate 50 years of a woman's right to choose!
During the Dave Mason interview, I played the video of the new recording of "Feelin' Alright" by The Quarantines. In the middle, I got a copyright notification on my screen, so I stopped it early. Here's the whole video, because it's too good to cut off in the middle!

20230119 Nicole Sandler Show - Thursday with Howie Klein
We missed Howie last week due to a power outage thanks to the crazy rains that have drenched Southern California for the past few weeks, but he's back today. I'm not sure where to begin, as so much has happened since we last spoke. Kevin McCarthy is Speaker, only because he sold the position to the MAGAt crowd. The proof is in who's on which committee. Let's just say, looking at Oversight, the foxes are now guarding the henhouse... or the insurrectionists are taking over control of the January 6 committee. Before we get to Howie though, I have a bone to pick with Congressman Eric Swalwell that we must deal with...

20230118 Nicole Sandler Show - Behind the Orange Curtain of Floriduh
The fascist man occupying the Governor's mansion in Tallahassee FL continues his assault on reason and his attempts to turn the state into a theocracy ruled by an authoritarian. Earlier this week, we learned about his move to turn Florida's truly liberal arts college, The New College, from its mission of inclusion, diversity and a place that's become a haven for LGBTQ students to a "conservative" leaning institution modeled on Hillsdale College-- a private Christian liberal arts college in Michigan.
And just yesterday, he held a rally-style event with his closest *medical* advisors, spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccines with his shady anti-vaxxer surgeon general, and another so-called doctor who told the crowd to forget about the vaccine and instead, pray to Jesus.
I kid you not.
Sadly, Florida does not have a capable, organized Democratic Party to counter such insanity. Luckily there is a group of dedicated progressives working to gain influence over the negligent and embarrassing group of bureaucrats who hold the positions of power in the FDP.
Today, I'm joined by Carolina Ampudia, past president of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida who'll explain what's happening with today's Florida Democratic Party

20230117 Nicole Sandler Show - Jared Yates Sexton and History Repeating
I've been excited about speaking with Jared Yates Sexton. His new book, THE MIDNIGHT KINGDOM: A HISTORY OF POWER, PARANOIA, AND THE COMING CRISIS is officially out today, and he's my guest. My only complaint is that he had to go do another interview, so our time together was limited. But he'll be back, because we only scratched the surface. We're at a dangerous time. Jared went back through world history for this book to see what's coming next, as we humans don't do a good job of learning from our mistakes. And lots of mistakes have gotten us to a breaking point... I only hope we can pull together to stop the dangerous movement that's threatening to take us back to the 1930s... We can turn it around. But we must begin by paying attention to what's going on!

20230116 Nicole Sandler Show - MLK Day, and Debt Ceiling Deja Vu Again
It is Martin Luther King Jr Day, a legal holiday, so I'm taking part of the day off. I'll explain when I start the show live, as usual, at 5ET/2PT.
We'll talk a bit about the holiday and the right's hypocrisy and selective use of one singular quote from Dr. King, as if it's the only thing he ever said...
Then, we'll see how the more things change, the more they stay the same.
I like to go back through the archives of my show and see what we were talking about on this date in years past. Well, 10 years ago today, economist and MMT proponent Warren Mosler joined me to talk about Modern Monetary Theory (before I ever met Stephanie Kelton). But the main topic of our discussion was just what we're dealing with today: the Republicans' threats to blow up the global economy by refusing to raise the debt ceiling, thereby defaulting and tanking the good faith and credit of the United States.
Just amazing...
