As you may know, this show is based in South Florida. I grew up down here. I wasn't living here during the 2000 election cycle, but the world's eyes were on Florida as it all came down to the sunshine state to determine who'd be president. Actually, it all came down to the Supreme Court, but lots of dominoes had to fall out of place before SCOTUS killed democracy. The Floriduh 2000 debacle is the subject of a new documentary currently airing on HBO called "537 Votes". The film's director, Billy Corben, joins me today as we talk about insuring that history does not repeat itself in this case!

Just five days left until voting ends in the 2020 presidential election. That we made it this far is grounds for congratulations. I wasn't sure we'd (I'd) make it. Every Thursday, I'm joined by Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC. At Blue America, Howie (plus Digby and John Amato) identify and help raise money for the best progressive candidates out there. Today, we'll run through the list of the great candidates Blue America has endorsed this cycle, and see how many new members we can add to the Squad! I'll start with the latest news and a few funny things that will hopefully give us a laugh on top of all the stress we're experiencing right now.

The current administration peddles lies and gaslighting. Today we respond by talking with experts who deal in facts. Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding is an epidemiologist with credentials a mile long who's been Tweeting crucial information about COVID since January. I figured that since we're seeing record numbers of new infections every day, this was a good day to cut through the lies the administration has been feeding us. Then, with the travesty that is Amy Coney Barrett pushed through the confirmation process to fill the seat of the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg, while doing NOTHING to ease the pain of millions of Americans suffering through this pandemic, I wanted to explore our options. So Lisa Graves returns to the show today. She's a former chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee on nominations, and a former Deputy Assistant Attorney Genera, so she knows her shit. I'll ask her some burning questions about what, if anything, can be done about this assault on our democracy. And we may have time for more... it's a fact-filled show today!

It's the final Tuesday before election day or, more accurately, the end of voting in the 2020 election. It's amazing that we've made it through almost four years of the most reprehensible creature to ever inhabit the White House's rule. The end is so close, but yet so far away! We're also in mourning today, as the Republicans succeeded in stealing another Supreme Court seat from America, as voting is already underway. Shameful.

We're coming down to the wire. November 3 - election day - is one week from tomorrow. It's hard to believe we actually made it through four years since the US lost its collective mind and elected Trump president. We can now reverse the curse... though not without lasting ill effects. Exhibit A is in action today, as the Senate will vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Adding insult to injury, she'll fill Ruth Bader Ginsberg's seat. I've invited my old friend Dave Johnson to commiserate, celebrate, and cry with me on today's show.
