I first spoke with today's guest, author and political scientist Jules Boykoff, five years ago just ahead for the Rio Olympics. He had just released his book, "Power Games: A Political History of the Olympics". I was fascinated by the stories that NBC never seems to include in their slick, pre-packaged video feature-ettes. When contemplating how to cover those under-reported stories as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are underway -- a year late and live audiences short. So Jules Boykoff joins us for the second half hour of the show. We'll begin with the latest news, info and snark. What else would you expect on a Friday?

We have a standing date every Thursday on the show with Howie Klein. He writes at DownWithTyranny. com, and runs the Blue America PAC, finding and raising money for the best progressive candidates. One of his Blue America-endorsed candidates, Nina Turner, was defeated in a special primary to fill the congressional seat vacated by Marcia Fudge who joined the administration as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The problem is, Nina Turner was targeted by the Democratic party establishment with a big assist from Republicans. We'll talk about what really happened. And a last minute addition to the show at the beginning-- Grant Stern of Occupy Democrats was physically removed from a meeting with Kevin McCarthy and a Florida Congressional contingent earlier today.

GottaLaff has been hanging with us on Tuesdays for probably a decade already or longer. Lately, she's had issues with pain in her hands, so we cut back to every other week. Well, today is one of those days. And what a day it is! NY Governor Andrew Cuomo is in the #MeToo spotlight today as the NYAG released her office's report on the investigation into sexual harassment by the governor. And it's ugly. We'll certainly talk about other issues too, but that's the biggie for today.

It's a very busy Monday here on the show. We have two very different guests on two very different subjects. First up - Drew Comments (aka Andrew Bullock) released an amazing video explaining why he took the vaccine and I just had to talk with him. So he joins us at the top of the show. Julie K. Brown is a reporter for the Miami Herald who really broke the Jeffrey Epstein story. Her book, "Perversion of Justice" was just released. She's our second guest today.

Today, after a jam packed news update at the start of the show, we'll forego the politics and remember the cultural shift that occurred 40 years ago this Sunday. On Aug 1, 1981, MTV premiered. I remember it clearly. So does Mark Goodman. He was one of the original five VJs on the first ever Music Television channel. He joins me to talk about that iconic moment in pop history and how much has changed in the past four decades.
