The other day, The Daily Show took out a full page ad in the NY and LA Times, offering the legal services of Trevor Noah & Associates & Sons for those you did an insurrection and need their protection. The ad also exclaims that "Because your only crime was listening to the president. Also felony assault." I Tweeted a photo of it yesterday that has truly gone viral. As of the moment I'm writing this, it has 22 thousand likes. There's a phone number on the ad. We'll call it on the show today. Then we'll deal with another legal issue: the Supreme Court! Although they're not in session right now, they released an 8 page opinion overturning Joe Biden's eviction moratorium extension. It was 6-3 along ideological lines. So much about that is wrong, so we'll call on Lisa Graves, former DoJ attorney under two presidents and now founder and director of True North Research. There, she investigates the bad actors and follows the money. Guess who allegedly bankrolled this Supreme Court challenge to the eviction moratorium..... Charles Koch, a regular subject of Lisa's investigations.

Since leaving his post as president of Reprise Records years ago, Howie has put his energies to work to make the US a more progressive nation. To that end, he blogs at DownWithTyranny.com, and founded the Blue America PAC. Along with Digby and Crooks & Liars' John Amato, Howie vets potential candidates, and helps the true progressives among them by raising money and helping to get others on board. Today, one of Blue America's endorsed candidates joins us: Erica Smith, running for the US Senate from North Carolina. Her site is ericaforus.com. As usual, we'll start with the latest news, which today includes an attack on the thousands of people trying to escape from the Taliban at the Kabul airport. The latest reports says 12 US soldiers were killed, along with a number of civilians, and many injured. The military is warning that they believe more similar attacks are imminent.

Laffy's here today, so we'll bring you the news, by way of her Twitter feed. And there's a lot of it to talk about today. Cuomo is out, Hochul is the new governor of NY. Perhaps I'll ask Laffy for an update on California's upcoming recall election. It looks like the conservadems and progressives in the House have made a deal and they will pass the budget resolution as well as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Afghanistan's still a mess and the media is blaming Biden. And Charlie Watts died. There's more too. We'll likely hit on all of it, eventually.

Technically, they're over. But it sure feels like we're getting dogg'd. Now don't get me wrong. I'm a dog person! I love dogs. (I even paint them, as I did all the pups on today's cover photo- and I do take commissions. Just send me a note!) But there are some dogs I don't like, like Blue Dogs. And today, they're threatening to derail the entire Biden agenda, infrastructure, and our chance at getting nice things in the USA. I'll explain. We'll also check in with Courtney Hostetler, lead attorney for Free Speech for People who just filed a lawsuit to stop some of the vindictive voter suppression bills being introduced around the country.
