Who won National Signing Day, future bowl game tech & Jeff Traylor’s iced coffee bath
Dan Wetzel & Ross Dellenger kick off the podcast diving into the action stemming from this year’s National Signing Day. Per usual, Alabama & Georgia had good recruiting classes, while Florida has dropped significantly in the class rankings since early November. Ohio State and Ryan Day had a few awkwardly timed scares as Day had to leave a press conference to find out whether or not the Buckeyes were retaining a top recruit. The remains of the Pac-12 have found a new home for athletics outside of football and baseball. The West Coast Conference will be where Oregon State & Washington State sports will be hosted moving forward with the schools’ football programs still searching for their best possible option.UTSA and head coach Jeff Traylor were able to get a win in the Frisco Bowl over Marshall, leading to a classic reaction from Traylor after having a giant iced coffee poured over him — a new take on the Gatorade bath.Keen college football watchers may notice some upgraded technology in bowl games this week. Video tablets and in-helmet radios are getting their trial run in a handful of games before potentially being fully implemented into college football in future seasons. Ross gives a breakdown as to why we haven’t seen them in use before and why they could be approved soon.Lastly, The People’s Court rules on how Louisville football players would fare against certain animals in the San Diego Zoo.1:00 - National Signing Day recap11:32 - Florida’s tough month of flips19:42 - Ryan Day’s nail-biting NSD29:02 - Washington State & Oregon State athletics have found a home33:30 - UTSA’s big bowl win37:25 - Bowl game helmets to have new communication tech50:00 - The People’s Court: College football players vs. San Diego ZooFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Syracuse lands Kyle McCord, NCAA’s new waiver hearings & Jerry Kill is unhappy with New Mexico
With another week of the college football offseason underway, the transfer portal is being utilized more and more. Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde are back to kick off more transfer portal talk, as Coach Prime has reloaded in the trenches, Washington lands Will Howard and former Ohio State QB Kyle McCord has found a new home at Syracuse.McCord, who was 11-1 as a starter at Ohio State, decided that the next best step for him was taking the lead signal caller for the Syracuse Orange. The podcast analyzes the move and examines why quarterbacks are so willing to enter the transfer portal for a new program. Quarterbacks know that they not only need to play, but they need to start, so when Ohio State couldn’t commit to McCord, he found a new home in upstate New York. The NCAA is heading into another round of waiver hearings after last week’s session. The guys discuss the latest deliberations around the transfer portal and highlight that we could be looking at a future where there aren’t any transfer restrictions moving forward.UCLA head coach Chip Kelly took some time in a postgame press conference to pitch his idea for the future of college football: Kelly believes that every program should be independent, with two 64-team conferences broken into Power Five and Group of Five.In other news, New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill was not happy with the practice field restrictions that New Mexico’s administration put on his program. The restrictions came after a video surfaced of New Mexico State quarterback Diego Pavia allegedly urinating on the Lobos logo inside their practice facility.Lastly, the People’s Court takes on a case of donut van thievery.1:00 - This year’s transfer portal is coming into focus13:22 - Ohio State’s Kyle McCord transfers to Syracuse21:14 - Eagerness of quarterbacks entering the portal34:00 - NCAA’s waiver policy hearings50:40 - Chip Kelly’s new college football format54:53 - Jerry Kill is unhappy with New Mexico1:04:53 - People’s Court: Donut van theftFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

New revenue sharing FBS subconference, Kyle McCord enters the transfer portal & is the CFP committee obsolete?
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast, analyzing the new reports that NCAA president Charlie Baker is planning on building a new Division I subconference with a focus on athlete revenue sharing. Ross details Baker’s plans that would allow qualified schools to control their own revenue sharing with athletes. This new development leads to questions about the future of Olympic sports and what happens when schools are given full control over the compensation for their athletes.Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord has entered the transfer portal after posting an 11-1 season for the Buckeyes. The move appeared to be mutual after head coach Ryan Day did not commit to McCord as the starter in 2024. The guys break down the pros and cons of the quarterback surge in the transfer portal. Elsewhere in the portal, Texas A&M’s Walter Nolen has entered after two seasons as an Aggie. The top recruit is opting for a new home instead of testing the Mike Elko system. Also, QB Tyler Buchner is planning on switching sports to lacrosse after a couple rollercoaster seasons with Notre Dame and Alabama.Later, the guys return to Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff. Conference championship overreaction: Florida State left out of CFP, Texas & Alabama get in
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to the final College Football Playoff rankings for the 2023 season. With 5 teams truly deserving of a spot in the College Football Playoff, one school had to draw the short straw. Michigan, Washington, Texas & Alabama round out the finalized bracket for the playoff, while the Florida State Seminoles are the odd team out this year, coming in at #5 after an undefeated season. Nobody appeared to be more disappointed than FSU quarterback Jordan Travis, who took to social media after the announcement, wishing he could have gotten hurt earlier in the year so that the committee could see the true potential of this FSU team.Dan, Pat & Ross analyze why the 4-team system was implemented & why the 12-team system was delayed for so long. Ross then takes us into the history of the ACC/Big Ten/Pac-12 “Alliance” and how it failed, along with how the ACC hurt themselves by not advocating for an expanded playoff earlier due to grievances with the SEC’s expansion. The show also takes a dive into what the 12-team playoff firmat would look like this year with so many quality teams in the mix who obviously did not make the top-4 like Oregon, Ohio State & Georgia.Speaking of the Bulldogs, Alabama took down Georgia on Saturday to claim another SEC championship. From snap one, the Crimson Tide looked like a different team than last week. Georgia couldn’t get their ground game going and more importantly, they couldn’t get Alabama out of their heads. The guys break down how Alabama was able to rally after a shaky start to the season to become one of the final four teams competing for a national championship.Washington and Texas will battle in the CFP semifinals in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st.\. Both programs had excellent years and the crew is very excited to see these two square off. Washington’s offense has stepped up in their most important games this year and Texas was able to dominate the Big 12 in the latter half of the season. Before closing out the show, the guys share their way-too-early national championship predictions and forecast whether or not LSU’s Jaden Daniels has secured the Heisman Trophy.Lastly, the show gives out their final Small Sample Heisman awards of the season, and as always, Say Something Nice.1:00 - College Football Playoff is set, leaving out Florida State17:55 - History and failure of ‘The Alliance’27:04 - What the 12-team playoff would look like this year29:00 - Alabama beats Georgia to win SEC43:09 - Who has the edge in Washington vs. Texas?47:40 - Who is your national champion?49:54 - Did Jayden Daniels win the Heisman this season?51:30 - Small Sample Heisman55:20 - Say Something NiceFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Race for the Case Week 14: Conference championship weekend, Bobby Petrino returns to Arkansas & more QBs hit the portal
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde give their picks against the spread for college football’s conference championship weekend and react to the return of Bobby Petrino in Arkansas.Last week’s Michigan vs. Ohio State game peaked at 19.7 million TV viewers, so the guys discuss the continued rise in popularity of college football and how it is able to succeed despite so much internal dysfunction within the sport. College football’s scandals and high amount of change in recent years may have fueled the boom, along with Texas coming back to relevance and the addition of Coach Prime at a Power Five school.Bobby Petrino has returned to the Arkansas Razorbacks football program after being fired from the team after alleged indiscretions with a staff member. The crew revels in the fact that both Petrino and Arkansas were able to agree to terms, but warn that head coach Sam Pittman must be sharp next year as Petrino has been known to aim for the big job.5-star defensive lineman Justin Scott has decided to flip from Ohio State to the University of Miami. While commit flips aren’t rare, the reality of money openly being used to lure away commits is increasing in the new landscape of college athletics.Ross provides information on the future of college football conference championship games and whether or not they will continue in the future. The issue has become more divisive lately as more commissioners are leaning towards abandoning them, while others see the importance of the games when paired with a 12-team playoff.Sports Illustrated named Deion Sanders their Sportsman of the Year, so the podcast reflects on Coach Prime’s first season with Colorado. Sanders was able to take the nation by storm with his unorthodox recruiting tactics, along with his bright personality. However, the Buffs also closed out the year 4-8 leaving, a sour taste in the mouths of the Colorado faithful.More quarterbacks have entered the transfer portal, most notably, Duke’s Riley Leonard & Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall. Leonard has already been projected as the next Notre Dame quarterback, but the guys are staying patient with their assessments, as the wild west of the transfer portal is just getting started. This year’s College Football Playoff race is as tight as ever, so Dan floats the question whether or not the committee will select the four best teams. Will there be pushback against the inclusion of Florida State if they remain undefeated, considering their résumé?To close out the podcast, the guys give their picks against the spread for the #5 ranked Oregon Ducks versus the #3 ranked Washington Huskies, the #18 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys taking on the #7 ranked Texas Longhorns, the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs against the #8 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the #2 ranked Michigan Wolverines versus the #16 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, the #14 ranked Louisville Cardinals against the #4 ranked Florida State Seminoles and as always, Dan, Ross & Pat give their locks of the week.1:00 - Introduction4:25 - 19.7 million viewers tuned into the Michigan-Ohio State game12:55 - Bobby Petrino hired as the new Arkansas OC27:13 - Justin Scott flipped from Ohio State to Miami32:05 - Will we see the end of conference championships soon?41:26 - Deion Sanders named SI’s Sportsman of the year51:17 - More QBs are entering the transfer portal59:27 - Will the best 4 teams be in the CFP?1:10:52 - #5 Oregon vs. #3 Washington1:14:44 - #18 Oklahoma State vs. #7 Texas1:17:06 - #1 Georgia vs. #8 Alabama1:19:28 - #2 Michigan vs. #16 Iowa1:23:12 - #14 Louisville vs. #4 Florida State1:26:02 - Locks of the WeekFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Mike Elko to coach Texas A&M, Alabama vs. Georgia & can Florida State get past Louisville?
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde give their thoughts ahead of college football’s exciting conference championship games this weekend. The Alabama Crimson Tide are hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win against the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia aims to remain undefeated in pursuit of a third straight national championship. With such a tight CFO race, the guys examine scenarios whether either Alabama or Georgia make it, and also the possibility of a College Football Playoff that doesn’t include the SEC at allOregon and Washington will be battling for a spot in the playoff out in the Pac-12. Washington has a win over Oregon already this season, but Oregon has been firing on all cylinders to close out the season and is the favorite in their rematch.Florida State needs to secure the ACC championship against Louisville this weekend with quarterback Tate Rodemaker at the helm. Florida State has a solid resume, but there are 1-loss teams with better wins, so the Seminoles need to bank on a win and the CFP committee valuing an undefeated ACC champion over who the best team is at the moment.Mike Gundy and his mullet have an opportunity to end Texas’ CFP hopes this weekend. Texas has already notched an impressive win over Alabama, but their loss to Oklahoma makes this game a must-win for the Longhorns to stay in the hunt.Duke head coach Mike Elko accepted the Texas A&M head coaching job this week. Elko was received well by the Aggie faithful online as well as in-person. The crew discusses the odd rituals that Texas A&M has and compare it to Mississippi State’s reception of Jeff Lebby at the Starkville airport. In other news, the college football transfer portal has opened up, so offseason relocation madness is finally beginning. Kansas State quarterback Will Howard jumped in the portal along with Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. The crew expects more talented players to enter looking for a new program. To close out the podcast, the Pop-Tarts Bowl has a new innovative and edible mascot.1:00 - SEC Championship: Alabama vs. Georgia21:42 - Pac-12 Championship: Oregon vs Washington29:38 - Could you have the CFP without undefeated Florida State?36:45 - Can Oklahoma State beat Texas in the Big 12 Championship?43:42 - Mike Elko is the new Texas A&M head coach53:36 - The transfer portal has opened: madness will ensue58:10 - Pop-Tarts Bowl has a new twistFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts

Week 13 overreaction: Michigan beats Ohio State, Iron Bowl madness, Washington survives & the coaching carousel has begun
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to the biggest games that took place during college football rivalry week including Michigan’s win over Ohio State and Alabama’s last-second heroics over Auburn. With Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh serving the final game of his three-game suspension, Sherrone Moore led Michigan to their third consecutive victory against Ohio State. The guys discuss how Michigan was able to win this game over their rival and how the narrative surrounding the team has to change. The Connor Stalions saga has dramatically decreased weight after the Wolverines proved they could win this game without Harbaugh on the sidelines. Ryan Day’s status as the head coach of Ohio State becomes much cloudier after this loss; Day has an incredible record, but his pattern of losses against blood-rival Michigan will undoubtedly cast pressure and doubt on his future. The Iron Bowl did not disappoint at all this year; Auburn had Alabama on the ropes all game, but when the Crimson Tide needed some Milroe-magic, the quarterback came through big. The miraculous 4th & 31 touchdown pass from Jalen Milroe to Isaiah Bond kept Alabama’s playoff hopes alive as they are set to square off with Georgia this upcoming weekend in the SEC Championship. The Washington Huskies showed guts in their Apple Cup win over Washington State on Saturday. Kalen DeBoer had an incredible play call on 4th & 1 on his own 29-yard-line to get the Huskies in field goal range. Washington is able to stay undefeated and this win has created an incredible matchup next weekend against Oregon in what could be the final Pac-12 championship game. There are still eight teams with a legitimate chance to make the College Football Playoff, so the guys give their scenarios for who gets in and who gets left out when the season ends. Florida State continues to be a main catalyst for conversation as they stay undefeated, but without their starting QB Jordan Travis. The coaching carousel has started up again and moves are already being made as Jonathan Smith is set to become the next coach for Michigan State, Mark Stoops was very close to leaving Kentucky for Texas A&M, Tom Allen is out at Indiana & Mississippi State still has a big decision to make for their vacant head coaching role.To close out the show, Dan, Ross & Pat give out their Small Sample Heisman awards and as always, Say Something Nice.1:00 - Michigan beats Ohio State for the third straight year33:06 - Alabama’s wild Iron Bowl win over Auburn40:51 - Washington stays alive against Washington State46:04 - The muddled CFP race1:02:21 - Mark Stoops almost hired by Texas A&M1:06:42 - Jonathan Smith to coach Michigan State1:12:02 - The coaching carousel keeps spinning1:15:21 - Small Sample Heisman1:21:13 - Say Something NiceFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts
